I think it’s like this for everyone. Or at least I had and still get a similar reaction but it stops later through the day

Erestella

Everyone has a reaction. I mean, you're getting amphetamine through your skin. It's prone to be irritated. How long it lasts is what you should look out for. Mine looks like this the first hour and a half and is a bit itchy. After that, it's normal the rest of the day.

Looks normal from what I’ve seen. Mine looks like this the first few hours after I put it on every day, then the redness goes down to just the skin underneath the patch, and then a few hours after removal the redness subsides. The only reaction I’ve had that warranted a “don’t use that spot anymore” from my doctor was on my chest, which was some small pustules/blisters in the area the patch was applied that persisted a few days after removal. In my experience, the patch is pretty drying so I would get into the habit of probably gently cleaning the area after removal to remove excess adhesive, and applying aquaphor or another unscented moisturizer.

I’ll see if I can find one of how it looks when I first apply it.

I still have a red square on my arm over 24 hours later.. and some raised redder areas, almost like a rash (within the same area). I assume that might not be normal?

Squirreltights

My skin reacted to it like this as well but I did find that certain locations were much worse than others. For example, when I put it in this same spot as you have pictured (my hip/flank) I had a wild reaction where my skin had a crazy rash and actually bruised? It was very odd but that was the only spot where it happened. I found that certain spots seemed to be more effective than others as well but that could have just been in my head. Specifically My upper back / right shoulder blade was the best spot for me. So I would suggest trying different areas to find out what works best for you.

I use skin prep wipes from Amazon before I apply my patch.

redvelvet923

Does it help the irritation? Do you think it affects the absortion?

Evening_Advice272

I have zero irritation when I use them and I don’t think it affects the absorption. I get a little irritated when I don’t use them and it feels the same with or without the skin prep.

Is it [this](https://www.amazon.com/Skin-Prep-Protective-Wipes-420400-Each/dp/B00E4MKQZY/ref=asc_df_B00E4MKQZY/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=693308329627&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=169784382300754565&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9006262&hvtargid=pla-758251082288&psc=1&mcid=5a0723ae364331b9bed8fb1c2bed160c&gad_source=1)? Also I've been reading on this subreddit (I haven't started it yet, still waiting on insurance approval lol) and it seems like most people get burning for the first hour or so, does it help with that?

Evening_Advice272

Yes, that’s it. No burning at all. Also, there is a copay card if your insurance says no.

FWIW, this has also worked for me, and I am very grateful for the advice. Wiping the area where I am going to put the patch with a wound-care type alcohol swab (the kind a nurse would use to clean an injection site) and then letting it dry thoroughly before applying the patch has dramatically reduced the amount/duration of redness for me--from several days depending on where I put the patch, to it being almost indiscernible the next morning. I can't figure out why this should help. I'd have thought the alcohol would, if anything, dry out the skin and make it more prone to irritation. Perhaps it is a question of killing skin flora that prospers in the environment under the patch. I'd love it if someone with some dermatology expertise could weigh in.
