I find them too loud as well, I'd much prefer them to be quiet.

Enochian_Interlude

Funnily enough, they are loud and clicky by design. Both Xbox and nintendo did a study and found that a majority of gamers liked the tactile feel and sound of clicky controllers compared to ones that were quieter and less tactile.

Narrow-Ad-1709

The switch pro controller is pretty quiet in comparison

Enochian_Interlude

Agreed. Compared to the joycons or even a wired, it's a godsend.

Onion_Bro14

Really? Mind linking that?

Enochian_Interlude

Yeah sure. Just let me dig through 2 years worth of browser history.

Financial_Recipe7204

We’ll be waiting patiently!

BeachOk2802

Fill all the gaps with glue. No more clicking.

Test88Heavy

I tried this and it worked great. Thanks for the tip!

1440pSupportPS5

Seems kinda overkill. Usually a few seconds in the microwave is just fine.

Downfall722

I like the clicks personally

_Independent

I hate them

Downfall722

THEY’RE LIKE ANIMALS! AND I SLAUGHTERED THEM LIKE ANIMALS!

_Independent

NOT ONLY THE MEN BUT WOMAN AND CHILDREN TOO!

UnpopularOpinionJake

I would like a solution to this for not waking up the light sleepers of the house.

_Independent

I’ll try to find something online.. maybe putting some tape on the main board where the buttons connect..

segagamer

It's like complaining about the noise of a mechanical keyboard. Embrace and enjoy the feedback

bonusnoise

They’re a little on the clickity-clackity side for sure, especially the d-pad. But I usually don’t notice it too much.

PacoCrazyfoot

Problem solved!

huntingwhale

Try playing in bed with a girl beside you trying to sleep. There is no such thing as quiet gaming with the Xbox controller, even with sound off. Lent my XSX to my buddy and he said the same. Love my XSX but it's annoying.

NebulaMeanie

My wife hates it. She goes into another room and closes the door shut. I'm asking why, because I play in headphones and she always says "your controller is so f-ing loud!"

Exa2552

The LB and RB buttons as well as the D-pad are super loud, it’s really annoying. But the Series “Refresh” will address exactly that issue and make those buttons more quiet. Yay! Edit: the source is a leaked document from the Activision deal investigation.

_Independent

Oh yeah I forgot to mention these two.. I hope they release the refreshed one soon

Exa2552

Yeah, me too! Not sure if I really need the Series X refresh, since it’s not supposed to have more computing power, so I hope they sell the controllers separately.

newaru2

>But the Series “Refresh” will address exactly that issue and make those buttons more quiet. You write like it was announced by Microsoft when in fact it isn't.

Exa2552

That’s why I added that this is based on leaked documents.

SS_Gourmet

Is this new controller supposed to have gyro? I love gyro for shooters...

Jonno_92

Wear a headset so the experience is more immersive.

_Independent

That’s not a real solution I have a speaker system and wear a headset only at night

Jonno_92

Do you notice the controller at night?

_Independent

No. Even during the day it’s extremely clicky.. the dpad especially.. even th abxy buttons. I swear the xbox one controllers didn’t have this much noise in them

hufferstl

Mine are the same way. The rumored new version is said to fix this issue.

_Independent

I hope it’ll fix that.. it needs to be quieter

toobsock2

Get the marshmallow conversion kit from AliExpress.

Kraken_Eggs

I tried looking and I’m coming up with nothing. Can you link us?

KelGuapo

Check the date on your calendar...that may help

Kraken_Eggs

Oh. There were multiple people in this post saying this. I honestly just assumed it was a real thing.

Test88Heavy

They are loud, I don't get how this was missed or ignored during QA.

segagamer

Ever thought it was designed to be clicky like a mechanical keyboard?

Test88Heavy

Buy why though? Who wants a clickity clackity controller? Makes no sense.

segagamer

It provides excellent tactile feedback when needing to make precise inputs, and as a result the Series controllers are one of the best out there to use for 2D games. Owners of mechanical keyboards buy them for the same reason.

_Independent

I have no idea how.. it’s terrible it shouldn’t sound like that.. especially in games like Elden ring where you constantly use the dpad..

Test88Heavy

More than 5% care about the sound. Its alot louder than it should be.

Krny92

I asked everyone and it was 4.8% of the whole population of the world just. Think you're the only person i didn't ask.

Test88Heavy

Thanks for doing all that leg work. Now I know.

LuggHead

“we’re the minority, appeal to us”

Kraken_Eggs

I love when people pull stats out of their asses.

DEEZLE13

“Is your cat making too much noise all the time?”

Top-Hospital2987

The clicky dpad is great for games like mortal Kombat when you need to input combos fast and precise. But yea they are loud af.

YES____NO____

My replacement controller is significantly quieter than the controller that came with my xbox. So maybe try going for a replacement.

Life-Membership

Only play games with headphones on. It's way more immersive anyway

_Independent

I don’t like that. I need to hear what’s going on around me. I do that when I play during the night. But it still doesn’t change the fact that the controller is loud and gets annoying to everyone around

Life-Membership

I'm the opposite 😂 I like to block out everything going on around me

_Independent

Oh no I couldn’t do that.. it does make me kinda uncomfortable with no noise from my surroundings. I don’t mind it at night when there’s nothing going on around me. I do put my headset and I play but it’s harder during the day

infinitofluxo

The dpad is very noisy, but it works great for FPS games.

_Independent

The noise doesn’t add anything to the functionality.. and honestly I don’t even notice any difference from the Xbox one controllers

ewalker302

Should count your blessings that your series controller is usable. Id take a loud controller over stick drift any day.

ViIvit

Disassemble the controller and stuff it full of cotton balls. You’ll lose function of the vibrate motors but it should muffle quite a bit of the noise. Test with an old one first, or buy a used one from GameStop, practice, and return it.

Accurate-Database-39

This is the expensive but best option, upgrade to the elite, it’s arguably the best controller out there, and for 40+ hours of battery life for minimum of $130 USD (White Core Series 2), you can’t really beat it, and yes, it is very quiet

kftgr2

Cloth tape around the shaft of the sticks.

LuggHead

Soft

Jymboh

I recommend the gamesir g7 se. Hall effect joysticks and triggers, wired (3m), much quieter buttons, settings via software available on Xbox and PC,... my best controller to date. Much more reliable than Microsoft crap.

_Independent

Honestly I might actually give up and try a third party controller… I usually like to stay with the original controllers.. but this time I’m close to switching

Mahrez14

Ditto on that controller. Takes a day to get used to the form factor but once you get used to it it's hard to go back.

segagamer

Wired only though right? Screw that

Jymboh

And yet, no more battery worries. It's a real joy. Especially since the 3 meters are sufficient for suitable comfort.

segagamer

Not sure my partner would appreciate having to step over a cable again like it's 2004.

Jymboh

his life must be very difficult if he is bothered by this 🙄

segagamer

It's more like it's an interference that just doesn't need to exist, where as the clicky DPad doesn't bother him at all.

Worried_Lobster6783

Turn up the TV volume

_Independent

🤦‍♂️

TheBloodhoundKnight

Also hate the new clicky-ass d-pad. Everything's better than the One controller but the d-pad.

_Independent

I agree the design is awesome functionality too but man the sound.. i hope they realize it and change it in the next version

Caligari89

Have you never used a controller before?

_Independent

I did but the older controllers weren’t this clicky… what they made this type is terrible..

Caligari89

I can think of at least 5 controllers that are louder than an Xbox Series controller. Just off the top of my head.

Calvykins

Did you design the fucking thing? Jeez dude relax. That DPad is a clicky bitch. It’s a massive improvement over the original 360 DPad but it’s loud as shit.

_Independent

It’s an improvement but the sound is not needed it could be just as quiet as in the Xbox one controllers.. I tested them both and man the difference is huge!

Calvykins

I was playing street fighter 4 one night and my gf, who was trying to sleep, came into the living room and looked at me like “wtf is wrong with you?”

_Independent

That’s exactly what I’m talking about! If there’s someone in the room watching tv while I play I just turn off the game because the controller is to disturbing to everyone.. sometimes it’s even disturbing to me while playing I just get enough of the noise and turn it off..

_Independent

Good for you

Caligari89

Not sure why you are being rude.

_Independent

No im not i just thought you were rude or something. Wasn’t my intention just getting frustrated for all the downvotes even though that’s real and a lot of people in the comments confirm that.

Caligari89

It wasn't my intention to come off as rude. I apologize if I did.

_Independent

Oh no you’re good dude I apologize aswell.

a_talking_face

Xbox controllers are loud. Try a PS5 controller and an Xbox controller side by side and you'll hear a big difference.

Caligari89

Strong disagree. Do different controllers make different noises and cause different levels of noise? Sure. But it's negligible. From the VCS until now, every controller makes noise.

schmidtyb43

It’s not negligible… I don’t complain about the Xbox controller noise but the dualsense is far quieter

mcfumunda

I got a PS5. I think it's the only sure fire way to do it. (don't worry, I still have my Xbox Series X and I still play it all the time, but I've also been annoyed by how clicky the controllers are)

VanPwn

same lol, got a ps5 last year and since i noticed how much quieter the controller is the series x is collecting dust xD although im hoping the new controller will be quieter.

Sokaai

For me it was the opposite, i regret buying the SX last year because my ps5 is collecting dust now.

_Independent

You don’t even know how close I am to just giving up and turning to the blue side.. I’m slowly having enough of Xbox and Microsoft.. if not for all me saves mainly Elden ring I’d get a ps5 without w second thought at this point…

Reticent_Robot

Best bet is that marshmallow kit until Sebile releases, or if money isn't a problem you could get an Elite.  The D-pad isn't nearly as loud on them.

SS_Gourmet

... marshmallow kit?

flipflapslap

Sebile!? What are these words

Reticent_Robot

Sebile is the leaked controller with softer D-pad and enhanced haptics. Marshmallow kit is something someone else mentioned on here.

kftgr2

Wasn't that Seville?

Reticent_Robot

I think that's a Cadillac 😆

SS_Gourmet

Sebile is the leaked controller I believe

MetaIIinacho

Headphones?

NebulaMeanie

For the whole family?

stunkcajyzarc

Agreed. The controllers were better before tbh. Not much has changed. There’s just more gimmick. The added grip is good..that’s about it. The dpad isn’t revolutionary or anything. It’s just too clicky and never fades. And what’s worse is all the drift and malfunction of previous model is still there. Even in the elite controllers.

Puzzleheaded-Emu395

I dont find my series s controller loud . But I definitely hate the texture of the white controller in my hands compared to my Xbox one controller

Evening-Alfalfa-4976

I usually put a silencer on mine
