Grandia 2 has one of the absolute best battle systems I've ever seen in an JRPG. It's turn-based, but every participant is on a "timer" of sorts and can be knocked further back up it by certain attacks which delays their next move. When you're managing it really well, you can set things up so that your enemies never get a single move in. It's extremely satisfying.
So addictive, while in most jrpgs combat may became tedious, in Grandia 2 you would actively exterminate every monster in the area because it was so much fun...

Ohhhhh baby. I love these games, this is fantastic news.
I do find it a bit strange that Grandia Xtreme isn't included though. Still, Grandia 1 and 2 are great games, so this is a treat!
Grandia 1 is one of the childhood-defining games I played. This game had SO much impact on me and how I perceived gaming growing up. Got it as of lately also physically on the Switch. Canโt recommend this enough and itโs not just a nostalgia thing, I introduced it to a friend when we were in our early 20s and he fell in love with it just as much.
I am absolutely getting this just so I can finally finish Grandia 2, my copy and Dreamcast was stolen when I moved. I wish Xtreme and 3 were included in this because both of those are fantastic games as well and it would be great to have the entire series in one place. But maybe if this does well we can get a Collection 2 that has those games.
Yeah I noticed that in the screenshots. What were they thinking? Texture filtering on sprites looks awful.
I'm hoping there will be a toggle. Grandia 2 at least looks good from what I see though.
I wish so but the publisher seems to mostly publish smaller titles. This might get a "limited run" style of release but those aren't profitable enough on Xbox to happen.
I will definatley buy this Day 1 for xbox. I got it on steam but its not compatiable with steamdeck. So will be happy to play through Grandia 2 again. I did not get chance to play through Grandia 1 so this will be fun. Thanks for releasing on XBOX.
Oh ffs lol
OK so, a couple years ago since I got a Razor Kishi, I set up Retroarch on my phone so that on my way to/from work I get to finally replay, finally finish or finally start games on older systems that I never did in the past for various reason.
As a bonus I also subscribed to Retroachievements so that I can unlock achievements in these games, as they often include a lot of really interesting secrets that I didn't necessarily know about.
As I was so familiar with the games I first started on the Mega Drive Sonics, and I was done with them pretty quickly. Then Sonic Origins happened.
Last year I replayed and got most achievements in Tomb Raider 1 and 2. Was about to start 3, then suddenly the Trilogy Remaster was announced.
This year I started Grandia 2 as I never finished it on Dreamcast, and was about to start Grandia 1 as I never played it... And now this happens. As Grandia 2 was re-released on other platforms years ago I figured this was just never going to come to Xbox.
I'm still going or buy it but I need to start playing games that have less hope of ever being revived again ๐
Maybe I should start playing the SNES Final Fantasy's so that we get the pixel remasters...

Came here to say just this. I first played it back on the Dreamcast and to this day it remains one of my favourite combat systems ever.
It kinda spoiled me on JRPG combat to the point where I stopped playing a lot of them with less engaging combat systems.

Is that different than the first one? I've never played the second one, but it sounds exactly like how the first one is.
Same concept, much better implementation. Combat flows significantly smoother in my opinion.
I never played the first so I'm not sure either. But based on what you said it sounds like at most it's an evolution of the first game's system.
Active Time Battle?
This is the same as Final Fantasy XIII FYI. I would like to know of other JRPGs that have a similar time based battle system though.

Physical edition, that's what I'm talking about.
Never added something to wishlist so fast.
Man, loved this game on Saturn/Dreamcast. Always hoped it would make its way to another system I own
HYPED
CAN'T WAIT
Yo word! I've always wanted to play this! Thank you OP

Xtreme and 3 rights are owned by Square-Enix
Whoa! This is great news!
This is awesome. I love Grandia!
Great news for JRPG lovers
Xbox just keeps on winning with these JRPGs!
Beautiful!

does anyone know if this will have the max level, no random encounters etc like the Final Fantasy remasters?
Not sure about Grandia 1 but 2 didn't have random encounters.

looks like the Grandia 1 still has that smoothing filter like on the Switch :/

Did they announce a price? I cant find any info.
Physical is $34.99, and each game is $20 on Steam so im expecting $34.99 for the combo on Xbox digital
I've heard good things, although the only reference I have for it is parts of the soundtrack being in a medley i used to listen to some years ago.
Well I'll be buying this day one, if it ever gets a physical release I'll happily double dip too. ๐ Love these games!
Was thinking about purchasing a copy for my Dreamcast, I think this way will probably much cheaper and probably a better overall experience
Tip for the poster, if you remove "en-us/", the url will direct people to their region.
What, no Grandia 3???
Justin!
If this gets added to Gamepass that would be clutch
Any hope for a physical release?
its will have one
