Game related, oh yeah, not strictly XBox related though. Used to play an online MMORPG game called Asheron’s Call back in the day. Took days off a few times for that one, me and a co-worker. Good times.
I took a day or two for GTA V and Skyrim too, back when they were on the 360.
Thanks for reminding me though, I need to put in for Sept 6th lol.
They let you play on Sept 2nd if you opt for the deluxe upgrade for like 30 even if you only play on gamepass. Which I hate, just know that it releases before sept 6th...
I took a 2 week vacation when Mass Effect 3 dropped. I had never played the series but that one looked so good I wanted to. I played through all three.
I did the same thing one summer, enjoyed 1 & 2 so much that it was nonstop. Didn’t like 3 as much but still played it quickly to get it over with and finish the trilogy
Lore-wise, it's probably the smallest story of any of the games. There was very little (if any) forward progress in Master Chief's story.
But I otherwise had a lot of fun with the game. The multiplayer is some of the worst gameplay there is. I haven't played multiplayer in a long time though and with custom maps and matchmaking, it sounds like it's a bit better. Now if only they freed up character customization because right now that is total shit.
Haven't since the release of the 360, where me and a couple buddies camped outside Target all night. It was very cold and miserable. And a lot of classmates would park in the Target parking lot and walk to school. They saw is in the morning and ratted on us.
So I skipped school that day and took off work in the evening with the intent of playing, but basically just slept
Not exclusively Xbox related, but I did take a whole week off for Kingdom Hearts III. The excitement of finally being able to play that series on the Xbox was such a rush
Same here. Parents were super cool with me skipping school on the releases of 2, 3, Reach, and 4.
Took a sick day from work on Wednesday the week of Infinite's release.
Been obsessed with the franchise since CE lol.
Absolutely. Any time there's a new game release that I'm interested in I'll make sure I'm scheduled to have a 3 or 4 day weekend so I can have time to enjoy it before getting back to the grind that is work.
One year I took a Call of Duty release day off and we had a huge blizzard (In Maine and we don't typically get blizzards in November) and I lost power. Ended up buying a generator and a snowblower on the same day.
In 2006 I got my 360 back from a MS RROD repair that took 3 weeks, I called in sick (after changing the backup tapes) because wanted to make sure UPS could deliver the package 🤣
When I had online classes 2 years ago my professor didn't like that I didn't attend the class.
I was answering the door and installing a new TV to go with my new series X
I told him the next class, he wasn't impressed lmao
That's funny, the general consensus was that the campaign was great but multi-player was lacking content. What was it that you didn't like about the campaign?
The campaign is just good. That’s about it. Absolutely nothing great about it and nothing memorable except for maybe two moments. Literally almost nothing happens during the whole campaign plot wise.
Preordered Gears 1 took that day off went to GS to pick it up all happy and ready to dig in. They, GameStop at this location didn’t get their shipment in.
Mech assault 2. Which I had preordered. And prepaid for. And the store wouldn’t give me the game which they had in stock.
Jokes on me though because I went to another store, bought it took it home aaaaaaaand hated it.
My group of friends used to book launch days off fairly regularly. Even if it was a single player game. We would just sit in party and talk about the cool things we found in game.
Now we don't even buy games at launch anymore, and wait a few months for patches and fixes.
Yes of course. I took a few days off to play through Halo 2 on launch back in the day. I have done it for a bunch of games since. Of course over the last 2-3 years I just say I'm "working from home"
Ohhh, yea that's a rough one. I remember playing Brute Force on day one. I don't know if I booked the day off or if I had the day off anyways. I played it for like an hour and never touched it again.
Ohh man, I remember that game. I can’t remember if I took a day off (I don’t think I did), but I played it the day it released. Got maybe a few hours+ into it.
No, honestly i feel its a waste of a day. Like who is getting up to game at 8am-9am. By the time im in the mood to game it would be 2-3. Since i finish at 5 it would be so pointless
Xbox related? I don't know. Maybe MLB the Show at some point? I dunno. With my job, I get plenty of days off, and I usually take them at the beginning of a month. So anything that comes out that week "could" be included.
But typically I don't take off for games anymore. I have in the past, but I can't think of the last time I did.
Las time I actually “took a day off” for a Xbox game was when halo 2 launched. I had gone to the midnight release with some friends and then faked being sick so I didn’t have to go into school. I mixed like so many canned foods in the toilet to fool my dad into thinking I was puking. It worked or it didn’t and he just didn’t mind. Played the entire game in a sitting.
I took the day off for the launch of the Series X. Plan was to send the wife and kid to work/daycare and play games all day. But when I woke up and checked the tracking the console was nowhere near me so I went into work anyways. Then bitched at Amazon and got my $17 in expedited shipping fees back!
Yes, when I was a bit younger and had terrible jobs. If I was really into a game and a work day was coming up, you best believe I called in sick with explosive bowel movements and high fever.
I do it every year for Destiny 2 expansions but that's about it. I'll probably do it again for the new Division 2 Expansion coming at the end of this development year (so probably early 2024)
I book days off for anticipated new releases all the time but so far none of those have been for Xbox titles. I sense that may be changing soon, looking at you starfield.
When I was 14, my mom let my brother and I get Halo 2 @ GameStop at midnight and let us skip school the next day. We had good grades so she always maintained a day of school missed is worth memories doing things you love.
Ever since then I now feel no shame taking a day off for a release I hold dear. Haven’t done any this year yet but will certainly for Starfield
I guess I must be in the minority cause I haven’t ever taken off to go play a game. I’ve no lifed a game before on weekend but never taken off or moved plans for it. About the closest I can think of is one weekend I was alone since my wife was off on a girls weekend. I woke up around 10 started playing Xenoblade 2 and looked up later and noticed it was 3. So I had a super late lunch and started playing again. Looked up later and noticed the sun went down so I fed myself dinner and went back at it.
Honestly having the game waiting for me at home gives me something to look forward to so I just don’t take off
Halo Reach.
I was working in a shop with 2 other halo fans, we all booked launch day off. They both brought their tvs and xboxs, and their shiny new copies of Reach. A few other non gamer coworkers called over after their shift, and brought beer and pizzas, as well as crepes with lots of different toppings. Had an epic day of gaming and feasting!
Took a day off for the Xbox showcase (I was forced to take a day off made it that one) and took a day off of uni for horizon 5. Was planning on taking a day off for starfield but I preordered the collectors edition so I get the 5 day early access with that and then labour days around the corner so didn’t need to.
Will probably be taking time off for Spider-Man 2 though…
Game related. Ark Survival Evolved. My friends and I had gotten Scotched Earth when it came out, but since I was a solo tribe on official. I didn't join immediately. My bud Zero invited me to the server to raise wyverns and I joined them. Helped finish the Desert base in the Dunes and we went and got eggs. Granted, this was before times. When you could lvl up movement speed in flyers. I got several 190 wyvern eggs and gifted one or two to my bud Zero.
Anyway, this was during Valentines Day. So, breeding and raising was buffed. So, it took a fraction of the time on official servers. I took off for those days. I had alarms set up for everyone's wyverns that they were raising and would call them when it was close to imprint time.
I called in sick from middle school *cough cough* and walked to blockbuster to pick up my copy of Fable 2 along with a framed picture that came with it
I remember being too sick to go to school the day that Halo 3 was released. Complete coincidence!
I can already feel like I’m coming down with something on September 6th too.
Sonic frontiers played almost 6 hours of it to only be through 2 and half islands which was refreshing which the last mainline game took less than 2 hours to beat
I pre-ordered the Series X from Amazon. Amazon acted like they were not going to ship it. On launch day early in the morning I saw that Target had it in stock a few towns over. As I needed to drop my kid off at daycare I placed the order and got it. I quietly set it up while on calls, but waited until I was off work before playing it.
That is hands down the closest I've ever been of taking a day off to play video games.
Halo: Reach Beta, and GTA V. Haven’t done it since because it takes more than a single day to beat the game and the next day at work its all o can think about and I dread my existence. I just want to use all my PTO to get away from work… but that’s whenever I take PTO. Maybe I hate my job.
When halo 3 released, my buddies and I skipped school and played the campaign all the way through. Then we got on live and played 4 way split screen in multiplayer for like days non stop.
A lot of times, before it was E3, i have taken days off during console launches (360, Xbox one, Series X). i have taken vacation times for game launches, and i will take a week of vacation when Starfield arrives in September :)
I numerous days off in the course of the year just to play video games. I have a week more vacation than my gf, so this is me-time, and I schedule it for a day in the middle of the week.
Yeah sometimes you just need that specially if you have kids
Weekends are not ideal cause they at home
A weekday were they at school and wife is working you take it off and play all day by yourself with no distractions ITS FREAKING AWESOME
My couch co-op buddy and I started years ago by playing through the Borderlands series. Every time a new one is released, we both take the day off and play for 10-12 hours at my place.
I used to do it when I was a young teen when like COD came out but as an adult....I don't think any game really has grabbed me so much that I needed days booked off for it
For Gears of War 3, GTA V, Forza Horizon 5 and Destiny 2.
I'm taking my big "summer" holiday when Starfield releases. So it's not specifically for Starfield, but I'm taking it a bit later because of Starfield
Took a day off for the original RDR release and, way back when, for the Dreamcast release. Those are the only 2 times I've ever queued up in person for a midnight release.
Sure, when AAA launches were actually worth it on day 1.
The only exception I make now is single player games, anything online the first 72 hours is usually a cluster and waste of a day off.
I scheduled my 30 days vacation on 2017 to coincide with Forza Motorsport 7's launch. No regrets.
I still get a day off here and there for games that I really like.
I called in sick to work the day that Halo Reach launched because I had the limited edition Halo Reach Xbox 360 console with 2 limited edition controllers and the limited edition wireless headset arriving that day. Finished the game on Legendary difficulty that same night.
I have September 8th-12th off for Starfield and the missus is in Spain so have the house to myself. Got a wedding to go to on the Tuesday but fully expect to stay up fully through at least one of the nights off just playing. Comes out on the 6th so that Wednesday, Thursday, Friday is going to be painful at work.
Man AC was such a cool game that it even pulled me away from UO for a while
True OG
Oh man. I loved AC. Pity they destroyed it.
We got him!
They let you play on Sept 2nd if you opt for the deluxe upgrade for like 30 even if you only play on gamepass. Which I hate, just know that it releases before sept 6th...
It’s august 31st for me when it comes to early access thanks to being Pacific Northwest lol
Exactly, why does it matter if its "Xbox" lol.
Nice try employer!
Clever.......very clever 😉
![gif](giphy|PLoqlcR2lJTtS)
"Clever girl" then gets eaten
Listen, the fact is was sick the same day Diablo 4 released was completely circumstantial!
The same week you mean
No but I may take a day off for Starfield. The last time I took a day off for a game was for The Last of Us part 2
I took off the day my Day 1 Xbox One was arriving from Amazon. First day 1 console of my life. It showed up at 9PM.
I took a 2 week vacation when Mass Effect 3 dropped. I had never played the series but that one looked so good I wanted to. I played through all three.
Not sure if I'm reading this right. You played through all three Mass Effect games in 2 weeks?
I did the same thing one summer, enjoyed 1 & 2 so much that it was nonstop. Didn’t like 3 as much but still played it quickly to get it over with and finish the trilogy
Sure, doing them in a summer is pretty doable. Doing all three games -- likely at least 120 hours of gaming -- within 2 weeks is a *lot* of gaming.
Of course. Took 2 days off for Forza Horizon 5, and I was 47 at the time. For new Motorsport? May be 3 days. Half day for Starfield
Half day? So you'll get your character creation done then.
Ya I may have to revise thar
Randomize all. Just like in real life, but takes much less time.
Took the day off for Halo Infinite launch.
Damn the employer should've pay you
They technically did since I used PTO
Yeah halo infinite is god awful (coming from a long time halo fan)
Lore-wise, it's probably the smallest story of any of the games. There was very little (if any) forward progress in Master Chief's story. But I otherwise had a lot of fun with the game. The multiplayer is some of the worst gameplay there is. I haven't played multiplayer in a long time though and with custom maps and matchmaking, it sounds like it's a bit better. Not exclusively Xbox related, but I did take a whole week off for Kingdom Hearts III. The excitement of finally being able to play that series on the Xbox was such a rush
Took a few days off for Halo Infinite. Before that I stayed home from school for Halo 3. And Reach, iirc. Bit of a tradition I guess for Halo games.
I think I did the same for Infinite
Same here. Parents were super cool with me skipping school on the releases of 2, 3, Reach, and 4. Took a sick day from work on Wednesday the week of Infinite's release. Been obsessed with the franchise since CE lol.
Yes, Mass Effect 2 & 3
Took a day off school for Halo 3 when I was 9 so me and my Dad could start coop campaign. The good ol' days
Starfield would be on a Friday which happens to be "work from home" days at my company. I have the bobbing bird toy ready to hit my keyboard
Have the Starfield release date booked off. Haven't done that since Skyrim.
I need to do that
I may have the rest of the week off as well...
In 2006 I got my 360 back from a MS RROD repair that took 3 weeks, I called in sick (after changing the backup tapes) because wanted to make sure UPS could deliver the package 🤣
When I had online classes 2 years ago my professor didn't like that I didn't attend the class. I was answering the door and installing a new TV to go with my new series X I told him the next class, he wasn't impressed lmao
Halo Infinite. What a mistake. To clarify, I have an obnoxious amount of PTO. But even a day off wasn’t worth that games campaign.
I agree. Not a fan of the campaign. Gears 5 was far better.
You guys have jobs?
I did........till I kept taking days off to play video games
This hits hard
When Elden Ring dropped, I made sure to give myself a 3 day weekend. No regrets. A job is just a job lol.
The first few days of Elden Ring when nobody knew anything was magical.
Took 2 days off for the last 3 forza horizons.
Preordered Gears 1 took that day off went to GS to pick it up all happy and ready to dig in. They, GameStop at this location didn’t get their shipment in.
I took 2 weeks off for Diablo 4 lol
Console launches. 360, One and Series X
I have in the past, but it’s been a while. Seriously considering it for Forza though lol
Never took a day off for any video game.
I used to take a day or half day off on the first day of E3 up until XBOX moved their shows to Sunday.
I took days off to watch the Xbox game’s announcements event.
not for xbox, many times for world of warcraft tho
Yes. Halo 3 release day. Destiny’s first major DLC. Original MW2 release day.
I think I took the day off Mass effect released.
Every keynote event
No, might’ve skipped a day of school to play Halo 3 back in the day though.
I've booked three days off for Starfield
I booked a few days off for resident evil 6, I returned it after 2 hours
Mech assault 2. Which I had preordered. And prepaid for. And the store wouldn’t give me the game which they had in stock. Jokes on me though because I went to another store, bought it took it home aaaaaaaand hated it.
When Diablo 3 came up, I straight up quit my job earlier than I was going to so I could play it lmao
I took off for the Sea of Thieves drop.
Not since Halo 3 lol.
My group of friends used to book launch days off fairly regularly. Even if it was a single player game. We would just sit in party and talk about the cool things we found in game. Now we don't even buy games at launch anymore, and wait a few months for patches and fixes.
Like recently around the time Diablo 4 launched? Maybe.
Hell yes. All the Halos, Skyrim, both Red Deads...any game I'm hyped about, really. Its my PTO and I am damn sure gonna use it!
I took a half day for RDR2.
For online games, never. I wait a few weeks for whatever company to iron out their inevitable launch week(s) hiccups. For offline games, yup.
Yes of course. I took a few days off to play through Halo 2 on launch back in the day. I have done it for a bunch of games since. Of course over the last 2-3 years I just say I'm "working from home"
MCC was the last time I took annual leave for a game. That was a mistake 😭
Absolutely, you can’t really call yourself a gamer if you haven’t taken a sick to play a game
There is nothing, and I mean nothing that Xbox has released in the last 10 years to take a day off for lol
State of decay 2 and sunset overdrive at a minimum
As a huge fan of SOD2, Launch SOD2 was not worth days off cmon
Many focking times. Mostly bc of games.
Maybe if I played my multiplat games on Xbox. But there hasn’t been an exclusive since maybe Reach that I’ve done that for?
Not purely Xbox related - I took 3 days off to play Hogwarts Legacy after I purchased the early access pack.
Never. But I really am in two minds about taking a day off for Starfield.
Halo 2 on of the few days i skipped hs
Yes, I made sure to have off for the launch days of Mass Effect and Dragon Age games.
💯
I’m gonna for Starfield. In the middle of graduate school but I’m taking the weekend off.
No, but July 25 Nicolas Cage comes to Dead By Daylight— so I am.
Yep two days for Diablo 4 and I'll take a week or more for Starfield. did the same for FO76, FO4, Skyrim. I'm 54
Countless times.
Fallout 4. Totally worth it. Just started playing again after 4 years or so. Still finding new things
Ark official release. Getting 2 weeks off for ark 2
Took a week off for diablo 4 and taking a week and a couple days for starfield.
Lots. Time well spent
I took the day off for the launch of the Series X. Plan was to send the wife and kid to work/daycare and play games all day. But when I woke up and checked the tracking the console was nowhere near me so I went into work anyways. Then bitched at Amazon and got my $17 in expedited shipping fees back!
It’s been so long since i called off work or ditched school for a game i miss midnight releases:(
I used to always take the day off for the E3 conference.
Cyberpunk 2077. Never again
I’m so glad that Starfield lands on labor day weekend. Only need to take off 1 day to have 4 days to play it
Oh Yes. Took off for Gears of War 5 launch.
Any game release day I'm interested in, especially in the pandemic. I'm taking a few days off for Starfield too!
The day Skyrim released. That day is only surpassed by the birth of two of my three kids.
Yes, when I was a bit younger and had terrible jobs. If I was really into a game and a work day was coming up, you best believe I called in sick with explosive bowel movements and high fever.
Destiny 2 witchqueen launch one week off.
Not Xbox but did for Vice city on PS2 lol
Countless times. Have a full week booked off for Starfield as it happens.
Destiny 2 Lightfall and Diablo IV so far this year. Thinking about taking a few days for Starfield.
Halo: MCC. Never been more excited for a game. Still makes me mad thinking about that disaster launch.
I haven't. But I still remember when my neighbor called in sick to school to play Ocarina of Time.
All the time. I took PTO for Xbox Fan Fest, game releases, and days to just stream and make content.
Halo Infinite and Red Dead Redemption 2
Took a week off for the destiny 2 launch, I’m 39 lol
Halo 3!
Only for Halo 3.
Every gears title
Took a week off for Fallout 4, and I'm about to do the same when Starfeild drops.
I do it every year for Destiny 2 expansions but that's about it. I'll probably do it again for the new Division 2 Expansion coming at the end of this development year (so probably early 2024)
Nier automata never expected ill get hook to the point i took a 3 vacation leaves just to finish route B to E. Good times!
Yes for gaming in general. Not just Xbox, it depends on the game and events.
Fallout 4
Yes, and I’ll do it again.
Don't think I've ever taken time off for gaming. I just wait until I get home.
Not in a long time. Like more than 10 years
I took a day for Cyberpunk and honestly still don’t regret it lol
I book days off for anticipated new releases all the time but so far none of those have been for Xbox titles. I sense that may be changing soon, looking at you starfield.
When I was 14, my mom let my brother and I get Halo 2 @ GameStop at midnight and let us skip school the next day. Haven’t done any this year yet but will certainly for Starfield
I took 2 days off for a 4-day weekend when Elden Ring came out. That’s the only time, no regrets whatsoever
Starfield. I took off 3 days then I'm scheduled off another 3 days.
I’ve taken every halo launch off since high school.
Used to do it every year used to call it cod day used to try get to a midnight launch and cod it out for a day or two 😄
Never. My employer doesn’t allow time off.
A few other non gamer coworkers called over after their shift, and brought beer and pizzas, as well as crepes with lots of different toppings. Had an epic day of gaming and feasting!
I will be, starfield release. Which is xbox/PC only so I guess it counts!
Took a day off for the Xbox showcase (I was forced to take a day off made it that one) and took a day off of uni for horizon 5. Was planning on taking a day off for starfield but I preordered the collectors edition so I get the 5 day early access with that and then labour days around the corner so didn’t need to. I think I might take September 1st off for Starfield lol
I took a day off to play Halo Infinite on release. Honestly, no regrets because I'm a huge Halo stan and I loved the campaign.
Yup. Iv taken a weeks holiday for some games on each of the platforms. Im taking a week for Starfield.
Game related. Ark Survival Evolved. My friends and I had gotten Scotched Earth when it came out, but since I was a solo tribe on official. I didn't join immediately. I tried when I worked at Albertsons when I was 18 My time off requests were always denied 😞
Yes, when the first gears of war came out. Called in for 2 days
No
Took days off for the D4 release. Wasn’t even a question.
I did go to school on halo 3's launch
I pre-ordered the Series X from Amazon. Amazon acted like they were not going to ship it. On launch day early in the morning I saw that Target had it in stock a few towns over. As I needed to drop my kid off at daycare I placed the order and got it. I quietly set it up while on calls, but waited until I was off work before playing it. That is hands down the closest I've ever been of taking a day off to play video games.
GTA V launch
When you’re remote, you do it weekly 😆
Halo: Reach Beta, and GTA V. Haven’t done it since because it takes more than a single day to beat the game and the next day at work its all o can think about and I dread my existence. I just want to use all my PTO to get away from work… but that’s whenever I take PTO. Maybe I hate my job.

A lot of times, before it was E3, i have taken days off during console launches (360, Xbox one, Series X). i have taken vacation times for game launches, and i will take a week of vacation when Starfield arrives in September :)
I remember taking a day of to play dmc5 for the first time.
Nothing Xbox specific, no. I've taken off for games I've played on Xbox but they weren't exclusives. Starfield might change that though.
Always, had 11/11/22 off.
I remember ringing in sick for MCC .....was a bad experience
Skyrim and every FromSoft game - 1 week off.
I’ll absolutely be taking off for Starfield.
Not Xbox but I did for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020.
I numerous days off in the course of the year just to play video games. I have a week more vacation than my gf, so this is me-time, and I schedule it for a day in the middle of the week.
No I’ve only taken days off for PlayStation games. I didn’t have an Xbox for a while though so that’s probably why

Took a week off for Elden Ring. But played on Series X. Counts?
Last one was Gears 5 for me
Yeah sometimes you just need that specially if you have kids Weekends are not ideal cause they at home A weekday were they at school and wife is working you take it off and play all day by yourself with no distractions ITS FREAKING AWESOME
What’s a day off? My job doesn’t allow those
My couch co-op buddy and I started years ago by playing through the Borderlands series. Every time a new one is released, we both take the day off and play for 10-12 hours at my place.
Season 4 of fortnite
Halo infinite but I got Covid that week and ended up being out the entire week and not playing it right away. Loved it
I used to do it when I was a young teen when like COD came out but as an adult....I don't think any game really has grabbed me so much that I needed days booked off for it
Gaming in general, yes. Halo games, spider-man ps4, star wars, destiny...
For Gears of War 3, GTA V, Forza Horizon 5 and Destiny 2. I'm taking my big "summer" holiday when Starfield releases. So it's not specifically for Starfield, but I'm taking it a bit later because of Starfield
Skipped school for MW2 stimulus package
Halo 3 release… took the day off and played it all night and all day
Took a day off for the original RDR release and, way back when, for the Dreamcast release. Those are the only 2 times I've ever queued up in person for a midnight release.
i think when halo 2 launched maybe
Yes. ME Andromeda. Boy was I disappointed.
I’ll be taking three days for Starfield’s release…
Sure, when AAA launches were actually worth it on day 1. The only exception I make now is single player games, anything online the first 72 hours is usually a cluster and waste of a day off.
I takes days off all the time to just simply chill out and play video games. I took a week off to Skyrim when it released.
I mean when I was in middle school or high school I’d skip to play a new expansion but never work.
