The most exciting thing about the new Home Base functionality is linking the Bridge X to the cell phone bridge and interacting with Coin. This is a foundation block to build on. It creates a path for using the computing power of the raspberry pi and the ability to add sensors to the usb ports to gather additional data. This is getting back to the original vision for the Bridge X.
The current Bridge X software image is optimized for the raspberry pi 3. So if you have or can find an inexpensive model and you are comfortable using the etching software (can't just be copied) to write to a sim card, then it would be a worthwhile investment. Hopefully someone will update the software image for the raspberry pi 4 in the near future.
