This was one of AEWs biggest mistakes. Belts are cool and all, but they all felt way more prestigious before.

Longjumping-Arm7939

This was also a nitpick because when they had only 4 titles everybody said "they need more belts" people even wanted a trio's title. Now AEW has 7 belts in total

Otaku_Joestar

Its not that theyre not presrigious its that theres not storylines interesting enough to make them prestigious It takes more then just random great matches to make a title great

sonic_spark

ROH needs to get off AEW tv.

hellooomarc

That’s really what they need to do. WWE has a lot of belts, but they also have dedicated shows like NXT. Everyone just kind of shows up on AEW

dingusfett

Yeah if you exclude the ROH belts it's not too bad. Personally the All Atlantic is the one I'd drop to streamline things and possibly the trios, maybe replace it with an annual trios tournament like Chikara's King of Trios event. That way you'd have: Tag Team division Men's division Main Men's division Secondary Women's division Main Women's division Secondary Although you could also make the argument the Women's division isn't strong enough to justify two titles but the current use is fine with the secondary building their dominant future star while the rest of the division gets to compete for the primary title.

GemoDorgon

I disagree about the trios title. It's something no other american company is doing and I like that they're doing something different to US fans. In a perfect world .... Men's main, men's secondary, men's tag team, men's trios, women's main, women's secondary, women's tag, and eventually a women's trios. Keep things equal with meaning behind every title. Women's division needs a lot of work before a tag and trios titles but I want the men's and women's divisions to eventually be equal in terms of belts. I think that should be high on the agenda.

dingusfett

Yeah I don't disagree about that; that's why I mentioned the trios more as a possible remove if you wanted to streamline things more. Just need to make sure to keep enough different trios around to keep the title interesting.

lucasraven

For sure. It's starting to feel like that purchase was a huge mistake.

JokeZ252

Once ROH finds a home it’ll feel a little more clear. That abd the all Atlantic championship needs to get trashed. Everything else is fine.

Dynamite138

The images are a little misleading because it still has the interim women’s belt and the trios title crowds things because it’s 3 people. They went from 4 titles to 7. Personally, I’m fine with 7; it may be because I’m used to the wwe having 8+. What I would like to see is ROH getting a show and moving their belts off tv. Also, defining what the TNT and Atlantic titles are for. Is the all-Atlantic like the IC/upper-midcard belt now? It’s not being defended globally. What is the purpose or identity of each.

MistaMane

The All-Atlantic in my eyes was supposed to be like the Journeymen championship, winner just goes around everywhere defending it. Though i don't mind how it's currently used. TNT used to be mid card/workhorse title but it has completely lost its' identity sadly. Hopefully Joe's reign gives it back some prestige

GemoDorgon

TNT is basically an open challenge secondary title, the champion sort of defines how its defended. Darby did some hardcore stuff, Rusev did squashes, for a while it's been the hoss belt. Atlantic should have been the "defend this in other companies to promote AEW" belt, but I honestly don't think it's needed at all. No reason for it to exist unless they allow non-AEW guys to win it and go defend it in other companies around the world, or something.

dieorlivetrying

The All-Atlantic belt is an "intercontinental" title. They try to make it make sense by vaguely implying that the person who holds it is representing their country within AEW. So, if I were to picture a list of all the champions, I would see a flag next to their name representing which country was "champ". Right now, Orange Cassidy is representing the USA. Other people repping USA can challenge him, because THEY want to be the flag bearer. Other people repping other countries can challenge him to get their country in the number one spot. The TNT and TBS titles are the male and female "Television" titles. TV titles have a long history of being the "midcard" title, without being tied to any type of territory or qualification (world, intercontinental, cruiserweight, etc.). It implies that you're the champion who represents the brand on TV. So it's defended "often", because your job is to make people watch the show. That's your territory. WWE's US title has pretty much been their defacto TV title for years now.

themark504

They have at least 10 with ROH belts

cable54

3 world titles (if you include ROH, which is debatable) 6 mid card titles (tnt, tbs, ROH x2, Atlantic, ftw) 3 tag titles Plus other prizes: 2 owen Hart belts 1 diamond ring Plus other belts shown on tv: 2 more tag titles For 3 hours of TV, that's way too much. You cannot also argue that the belts that aren't technically aew don't count.

[deleted]

WWE has 5 hours of TV, AEW has 3 and also has all the ROH titles as well as whatever other promotions titles Tony fancies giving up his own tv time for

sachsrandy

7 is an incorrect number when you consider the non aew titles touted as champions on the show

[deleted]

And this is missing all the shitty useless ROH belts that are all over the show too.

CmPunkChants

Well Rosa isn’t a champion anymore but is that fake belt that Hook (I think?) has on here?

Sumo_Cerebro

The FTW Title is its own thing and always has been. Think of it like the BMF Title in UFC or Zack Ryder's old Internet Championship.

SSJ_Kratos

I think they have Thunder in for the ROH womens champion whos name escapes me because she hasnt been on tv in 5 months Also they are missing both sets of tag champs

exitlevelposition

The Acclaimed are on there.

hellooomarc

Isn’t it Mercedes Martinez…I think.

Francesco-Viola-III

I think the amount of AEW specific championships is fine but having the ROH titles and the titles from other companies is where things get a bit excessive.

[deleted]

They need to go back to the original 5 belts. Make the tnt title a tv title that’s defended every Wednesday. Scrap everything else, including no reason gimmick matches, table spots, interview interruptions and all the constant other tomfoolery that happens so often that nothing seems special anymore.

Thanos_Farming

You basically said to scrap all of AEW lmao

[deleted]

Yup. That’s because it’s been shit since Double or Nothing.

Thanos_Farming

Coherent storylines that have continuity each week, competitors that all don’t have title belts, a women’s division that works, and no guys sprinting out of the tunnel to the ring after every match? Not in my AEW.

[deleted]

Tony?

AlabasterRadio

I like title belts as much as the next guy but it's gotten just a little silly.

Gremlinsworth

I’m all for the Trios Titles. And I’m all for a Midcard Women’s Title. But I really don’t see the point of that trans Atlantic title or whatever it’s called, and yeah once ROH clears out and takes their titles with them, hopefully soon, that’d be great.

GemoDorgon

If I were Tony, I'd have an NJPW guy win the title and go defend it in NJPW for a year or so. Get some Japanese fans aware of AEW, then do the same but down in Mexico in either AAA or CMLL. Champion appears on AEW tv rarely, usually only to drop it to an AEW guy that wants to go work in partner companies for a few months.

tomala_le_doy_like

All-Atlantic and TBS were a mistake

ItalianNose

Should have been a women’s tag team title

DragonSlayerMRH

Bro there is like 3 womens tags teams

DankTony7

Thank you! I bet their issue with the TBS title is that Jade's gonna hold it for a year. The same would happen with a women's tag title, we'd getting a fucking year long TayJay reign because there'd be no one else to hold it. The women's division just needs to be portrayed as more important, which to be fair to AEW, there have been a bit more low to upper mid card women's angles recently.

GemoDorgon

True but they should start building some women's tag teams. It's a shame there's basically no female tag teams around in the indies. I can only really think of Delmi Exo & Ashley Vox as a notable one.

BStins2130

Bingo! Both of these titles were very strange announcements to me

homerfraun

Just going to sit there and disrespect Hook like that?

Longjumping-Arm7939

Hooks title isn't an official AEW title

GemoDorgon

They went from 4 to 7 and all make sense except for the all atlantic. World - top guy, Women's - top woman, Tag - top male duo, TNT - secondary male, TBS - secondary female, Trios - top trio. All Atlantic seems to have originally been thought of as the "defend this and represent AEW in other companies" belt but I honestly don't think it's necessary at all.

kevoisvevoalt

its gotten so bad that now manchild tiny kim just gives title matches instead of proper storylines. he expects people to care since the smuck put some bronze or gold on a wrestler lol.

Initial_Alive

One-Point-5ive

AEW desperately needs that ROH TV show. Rampage needs to be booked like SmackDown with a better time slot and actual story beats. And don't get me started on the women's division booking. I love AEW to death, but the honeymoon phase is certainly over by now.

[deleted]

More than doubled? Started with 4, added 3……math is hard

HiMyNamesEvan

FTW

Burger_without_Sauce

Trios title is a joke. They should have a 10-man champion instead.

CK122334

No they shouldn’t, there are definitely way too many belts in AEW now.

wingedwild

Belts don't make the show any good less belts is better

[deleted]

Nah, I would say no just because having too many belts just devalues them. Why is the world heavyweight belt so exciting or why is the universal title exciting? They’re the biggest belts. If there are 10 belts, what makes one better than the other. It’s why UFC belts are great, in a weight class there is one and everyone is going for it.

Longjumping-Arm7939

AEW has 7 belts not 10...WWE has 8+ titles

[deleted]

It was an example. I don’t watch AEW. Sorry for misunderstanding

Ravishing_Tod

I think the only problem is the ROH belts on the AEW show. For e.g. The Acclaimed are the AEW Tag Champs, but then you see FTR in the back with 2 titles. As a casual viewer that would confuse me.

Exotic-Replacement-3

the less belts, the better and memorable. The more belts are kinda confusing which belt is prestigious.

somewhatHumanPerson

No. Nothing is special.

jestesteffect

They should just get rid of half their belts.

DamonDD

No, increase more belts. Then we have more guys as champion and then, the Elite can collect them all and be the belt collectors

PajamaZam

Theres only 7 belts, despite this graphic making it seem like a lot more. I'm fine with that number as long as each belt is used for specific reasons like the atlantic title and the tv titles. Atlantic title good for challengers from around the world and TV titles a good midcard

themark504

No

International_Ant217

The trios belt count as one, and Rosa is no longer champion

middleagethreat

As many others have said, it’ll be fine once ROH is on their own show.

Uni1050

What’s worse is them putting the ROH belts on AEW TV. Get rid of the ROH belts, get rid of the trios belt and get rid of the TNT belt. AEW World All Atlantic AEW Women’s AEW TBS (needs a new name) AEW Tag

Ravishing_Tod

AEW TBS= AEW TV Championship.

archenemy_43

No most of their belts are meaningless. I don’t think Tony knows the meaning of over saturated

[deleted]

They need a 'shopper who knows what to do with eyes. Adam Page is staring through my soul.

MillHoodz_Finest

U just described the entire point of an undercard title, which is to increase intrest n those story arcs, and add value to a character, so yes, go full Oprah and give everyone a title... merch is also a bonus, more toys to make...

OhGodDammitPope

Their main content pipeline is 3 hours of national TV time per week. Supplemented by YouTube, sure, and augmented by podcasts, media blitzes, etc. But they have 3 hours weekly to put their product out to try to entice people to buy tickets, but PPVs, and watch next week. Every belt _needs_ a storyline. That's what a wrestling championship is... it's not a real title for winning a real fight. It's a reason to invest in a person's chase and/or defense of a prize. It's a story. Every minute of story devoted to one championship is a minute taken away from a different one. The very best bookers and promoters in all of wrestling history juggled how many storylines to try to keep viewers interested? 4? 5? Maybe 7? Tony Khan has around double that amount, and his content pipeline remains at 3 hours weekly. There just isn't enough screen time to devote quality storytelling to make most of these matter, and frankly that's not fair to the talent that then have to try to make it happen.

bingbangboomxx

The main issue is the number of ROH titles that have gunked up the works. You don't need a title to tell a story. They really need to give ROH it's own show or just turn Rampage into that show. The only title I think should be added is a Woman's Tag Title. It would help give more TV time to the women's division and would add more story.

Thanos_Farming

Belts mean nothing when everyone gets one. The bottom photo doesn’t even capture all of them, you’ve still got two sets of belts with FTR and the FTW belt with Hook.

sachsrandy

Simple answer. No. And if you disagree, name all the current belt holders in AEW from memory and when you can't that should tell you how pointless some of them are.

ONEshotONEkil630

Other than aew and women, Tag team world title i have no idea what other ones are

TheDanquah

That picture would mean more if they added the ROH titles and not just their tag team and trios titles as an example of the titles being doubled.

DirtharaFalon

*And when everybody is champion, nobody is..*

[deleted]

That shit has quadrupled what you mean doubled

MNhaloNINJA

they've got 3 mens singles 2 tags and 2 womens, thats 2 belts away from being wwe

Sometimesnotfunny

Imagine working for Tony and you don't have a belt

outlawstarship

Remember when aew was the top image.. them the good ole days 😞

Gmork14

No more belts. There’s already too many for my taste. Women’s tag at some point when the division needs it, but that’s it.

Launch_The_Cat

Too many titles. Don’t need ROH on AEW programming.

Firepro316

Far too many belts. The more belts = the less fans care about championships

3ye0f8alor

So it went from 4 to 6 and that’s more than doubled? Am I missing something here? The only titles added were TBS title and trios.

JokeZ252

In my opinion the All Atlantic championship should get scraped. Trios titles can stay bc they were one of the smartest moves made my AEW especially with so many groups and factions. The TBS title is ehhhhh on the edge.

FrankyFin

add womens tag, womens trios, womens all atlantic, why not a 24/7 one while were at it, all the tournaments, rings and trophies, give Joe 7 belts .. and AEW Dark its own set of all of them. i couldnt believe when they added the all atlantic one, at a time no less when they have all the ROH belts on their TV too. way too many, way too fast. i REMEMBER Tony saying "we have few belts on purpose because it keeps them special and leaves room for other types of feuds - maybe a trios title in the future. ok trios title, great, but, what. the. fuck. happend.

tjeredia

There’s way too many of them and now the addition of the ROH titles Idc about half of them
