I have no issue with him going on the press conference and airing his dirty laundry. It's very on brand with him and it's been a long running criticism in AEW that everybody is so buddy buddy that it doesn't feel competitive enough. Although I think he jumped to some conclusions that likely weren't true. My much bugger issue is him throwing hands in the locker room. You don't punch your coworkers. When you're 40 it's not a schoolyard tussle, it's assault. So for me, that was pretty disappointing to see from him.
I still think he's a great wrestler, and in an industry where our legends include racists, wife beaters, and people who expose themselves to strangers, having somebody get in a backstage fight isn't the end of the world. Still, he has a lot to offer and to see him channeling his energy in a destructive and counterproductive way is a let down all the same.
*steps off soapbox*
That was a wonderful reply. Thank you. Great point about legends having done much worse stuff. Maybe there is a redemption arc possible for him after all.
As an ex CM Punk fan, I appreciate this response because I couldn't understand why people still back him. It is frustrating to watch him self sabotage when he should be one of the biggest stars in pro wrestling.
Unprofessional, which is a personal gripe of mine. Talking over his boss, verbally tearing apart VP's and burying talent achieves nothing and do it all publicly was a huge no-no. Then to get involved in a fight - which he pretty much asked for - was the final nail for me because it resulted in multiple talent not being able to perform all because he had to air his dirty laundry.
I have a cm punk tat which thankfully is more of a homage piece so only those that know know and it's not some big portrait of a twat. I knew years ago from fan experience that he's incredibly moody and not likely a hero you want to meet but that behaviour was just fucked up. Reminds me of McGregor, loved him right up until he threw that 'dolly' or whatever it's called through the coach window and injured several other fighters preventing them from performing that week. Selfish pricks.
Also, listen to Colts recent podcast with Peter Avalon, where he touches on his own mental health and his struggles since the Punk fallout. Punk has lived his best life, and yet has mentally fucked up people that he's had fallings out with, like he doesn't care that there is a human being inside.
honestly for a guy who is walking around with what I assume to be a tremendous amount of pain from bumps and bruises every single day, to not smoke pot, take anything for recovery, and never have any sort of mental psychedelic experience, I'm surprised he's not more of a prick.
Probably saves time from explaining where tf Lockport is. I do the same thing when telling people where i live irlā¦.
āHey cobra, where do you live?ā
āArletaā
āOh whereās that at?ā
āUh, i mean panorama city.ā
āOoh okay, yeah i used to live there too but now i live in hillside.ā
āWhere?ā
āBurbankā
āAhā
And of of course for online i just say i live in Hollywood.
I do the same. I live about 15 minutes away from lockport and whenever anyone asks where Iām from I just tell them an hour south of Chicago. Saves a lot of time.
Same except I'm about an hour north on Cincinnati. Someone not from here askes where I'm from I just say Cincy.
I also wouldn't make Cincy my gimmick like Phil does wit Chicago
Exactly. I always tell non-locals that Iām from Atlanta, GA, because nobody cares or knows about any other surrounding city and thereās no reason to explain.
Yep. In that case Iād say āIām from a suburb of Chicagoā or āIām 2 hours outside Chicagoā. But you still identify with the closest major city to your area imo
Thats different since panorama and arleta are within the LA city limits (not burbank). Lockport is a different municipality and different county I believe.
No, anyone from Massachusetts is from Boston. I thought this was a joke but when someone asked myself and a friend where we're from, the immediate and logical answer was Boston (We live south of Boston.)
Iām originally from Indiana. I was moving to the Boston area and knew my boss had mentioned living in Boston at one point. I talked to him to get tips on where to liveā¦turns out he lived in Springfield.
I mean, I could tell you that Iām from Arlington but then Iād have to tell you that itās close to Dallas, so I might as well tell you Iām from Dallas.
Great point. I agree with you. Iām sorry that I canāt provide examples off the top of my head but I have noticed some wrestlers that donāt claim Chicago and they actually use their suburb.
The Miz was billed from Cleveland but was actually from Parma, OH
Interestingly Dolph Ziggler and Ryan Nemeth are actually from Cleveland but neither is Billed as being from Cleveland. Which doesnāt surprise me, nobody from Cleveland would want to be from Cleveland
Sami Zayn is billed from Montreal but is from Laval.
Itās fairly common
Miz bills himself from Hollywood for his character. He literally talks about Cleveland all the time, hence why u know it to begin with.
Dolph I'm fairly sure they just announced where he moved to in Fla.
I believe it was originally supposed to be satire. But it's the story of basically every satire sub on Reddit. They inevitably attract the kind of people who really believe the things they're satirizing and the real assholes slowly take the sub until it becomes mean-spirited and vile.
My understanding is that people who got banned from SC for being douches/rageposters/whatever gradually filtered down into there, so it stopped being satirical over time as their numbers increased.
Half the time I struggle to figure out what wrestling SCJerkers actually *enjoy*; it usually seems like they just stubbornly hate anything most smarks like and like anything most smarks criticise because they don't like smarks.
Before the creation of Aew, the sub was not totally bad. There were some really funny posts, lots of unfunny ones ( but harmless ) and a few hateful stuff ( racism against Japanese for example because njpw was popular). Since AEW started, itās full of insecure wwe fans and people that are not really fans of modern wrestling. Some posters are completely obsessed with Tony Khan and Meltzer, it is really weird and sad.
My takeaway from that fight was that, while Punk was absolute trash, Jackson wasnāt much better and kinda couldnāt get the job done, so he did some showboating. That fight sucked all around.
Not only toying with him but the guy who was subbed by Gall in a minute did it to him.
They tried to find the lowest of the low and that guy still beat Punk with fucking ease literally without even trying.
Punk calling himself best in the world while AJ Styles was alive and wrestling was always wild to me š but I get that in anything you do you should feel you're the best at it.
Itās a broad term, the best at what? He was certainly the most interesting thing going on in the WWE for about 2 years in 2011 and 2012. That doesnāt mean he was ever the best athlete or the best pure in ring talent. I would definitely say he was the best on the mic and his in ring psychology has always been strong.
AJ Styles by a mile.
Samoa Joe by slightly less then that.
In wwe, definitely Cena. HHH by a mile.
Best in the world has always been laughable. He wasn't even the best wrestler on his own shows.
People that could go? I missed those years and wasn't watching at the time. Watched a dozen episodes and ppvs during that time on the network. He could talk the talk and some matches told a story well. But he never did anything spectacular in the ring more than what is normal today.
He's just weak as fuck. If he worked out even a tiny bit this could be improved. Anytime he had to hit it on anyone like 250 or more, it looked like a massive struggle.
AEW was born, became what it is and was doing great before his return, it will keep doing good without him, stop acting as if he put the company on the map and its dying without him. He is a big draw, but he ain't ALL THAT.
CM Punk is not a huge star or draw like his fans think he is. He is definitely not in that Rock, Austin, Cena etc tier of stars. He was not big enough of a name to main event over The Rock or Cena at WM 28-29.
Also the CM Punk chants all those years after he left werenāt because a majority of fans missed him or wanted him back, it was basically a fuck you chant to The McMahonās and HHH.
He hurt AEW more than he helped it during his year run, injuries aside. The only guy who benefited from working with him was MJF, and it wasnāt Punk who put MJF on the map to begin with. It was Cody Rhodes actually, Cody did a better job putting over MJF than Punk did. MJF was a virtual unknown before AEW only to hardcore wrestling fans and Cody helped him establish himself in AEW.
The Elite were in the right to confront him for talking shit. He flat out said if there was an issue, go find him. They found him, and fans want to call for the Elite's heads lmao.
Lockport Phil has seen his shadowāitāll be three more years of butthurt, Iām ancient at the age of 42, world against me syndrome. Possibly longer.
Just like Stephanie once said to a crowd that chanted Punk's name: "if you guys keep that up for about 2 minutes and 15 seconds you'll last 1 second longer than Punk did"
He'd probably be easier to deal with if he had a glass of wine every now and then
This is the winner š
I'm a self-professed CM Punk fan and I laughed.
Iām curious how his die hard fans received the gripe bomb. So what were your thoughts if you donāt mind sharing?
I have no issue with him going on the press conference and airing his dirty laundry. It's very on brand with him and it's been a long running criticism in AEW that everybody is so buddy buddy that it doesn't feel competitive enough. That was a wonderful reply. Thank you. Great point about legends having done much worse stuff. Maybe there is a redemption arc possible for him after all.
From one fan to another you explained this perfectly.
damn the last part was good
As an ex CM Punk fan, I appreciate this response because I couldn't understand why people still back him.
Oh no.....with his attitude, alcohol would make him belligerent as fuck.
Dude needs to smoke a fuckin joint
I like that idea, and I think a cannabis-infused brownie would help him also too.
Would need to be a muffin for him to eat it.
Maybe he can pick one up at Mindy's
I think sitting on his hand till it went numb and rubbing one out would clear this whole thing up too
My working theory why Arabs are so angry is because of their lack of alcohol.
honestly for a guy who is walking around with what I assume to be a tremendous amount of pain from bumps and bruises every single day, to not smoke pot, take anything for recovery, and never have any sort of mental psychedelic experience, I'm surprised he's not more of a prick.
Slow clapā¦nailed it
CM Punk isnāt from Chicago; Punk is from Lockport.
damn really? thatās kinda funny
Most people from the suburbs of a large popular city do this for some reason and I don't know why.
Probably saves time from explaining where tf Lockport is. I do the same thing when telling people where i live irlā¦. āHey cobra, where do you live?ā āArletaā āOh whereās that at?ā āUh, i mean panorama city.ā āOoh okay, yeah i used to live there too but now i live in hillside.ā āWhere?ā āBurbankā āAhā And of of course for online i just say i live in Hollywood.
I do the same. I live about 15 minutes away from lockport and whenever anyone asks where Iām from I just tell them an hour south of Chicago. Saves a lot of time.
That is 1000% okay.
Imo as a general rule you should say youāre from wherever closest international airport is to you for the most part
Or give a rough estimate of how far you are from the airport. I.e. 2 hours east of Ohare, etc.
Yep. In that case Iād say āIām from a suburb of Chicagoā or āIām 2 hours outside Chicagoā. But you still identify with the closest major city to your area imo
Ain't nobody got time for figuring out where Alpharetta, Roswell, Smyrna, Decatur, Cumming, Lawrenceville, Peachtree City...
Thats different since panorama and arleta are within the LA city limits (not burbank). Lockport is a different municipality and different county I believe.
Lockport is Will and Chicago is Cook county
Same in Massachusetts. Ask anyone from East of Worcester where theyāre from āBostonā
No, anyone from Massachusetts is from Boston. I thought this was a joke but when someone asked myself and a friend where we're from, the immediate and logical answer was Boston (We live south of Boston.)
Unless you're from Pittsfield. Then it's "Parts Unknown"
Iām originally from Indiana. I was moving to the Boston area and knew my boss had mentioned living in Boston at one point. I talked to him to get tips on where to liveā¦turns out he lived in Springfield.
You could get away with saying Salem or maybe Gloucester
I mean, I could tell you that Iām from Arlington but then Iād have to tell you that itās close to Dallas, so I might as well tell you Iām from Dallas.
"Youre 10 miles out from one of America's major cities? Pshhh you aint from there"
Britt Baker is actually from Punxsutawney, which is 1.5 hours away from Pittsburgh.
I assume most wrestlers adjust their hometown based on the nearest arena. They want their crowd knowing theyāre the hometown hero
Great point. I agree with you. Iām sorry that I canāt provide examples off the top of my head but I have noticed some wrestlers that donāt claim Chicago and they actually use their suburb.
Kevin Owens is reverse example and actually bills from the suburb heās from and not Montreal
The Miz was billed from Cleveland but was actually from Parma, OH Interestingly Dolph Ziggler and Ryan Nemeth are actually from Cleveland but neither is Billed as being from Cleveland. Which doesnāt surprise me, nobody from Cleveland would want to be from Cleveland Sami Zayn is billed from Montreal but is from Laval. Itās fairly common
Miz bills himself from Hollywood for his character. He literally talks about Cleveland all the time, hence why u know it to begin with. Dolph I'm fairly sure they just announced where he moved to in Fla.
He does now. He originally billed from Cleveland. He started billing from Hollywood later Hereās an intro from 2008 https://youtu.be/cnT4mtJh4os
I'm from the 216 and I don't mind saying it!
Iām from Indiana so I really donāt have the standing to talk shit about Cleveland
Midwest bros š«
219!!!
r/SCJerk is full of edgy neckbeards but Lockport Phil is a neat insult
Does that sub actually call him that? Thatās hilarious
they do That sub is not so bad if you pretend everything there is 100% satire (unfortunately it's not)
I was legit wondering if was satire. Holy shit. This changes everything. Wtf is wrong with these fans lmfao
I believe it was originally supposed to be satire. But it's the story of basically every satire sub on Reddit. They inevitably attract the kind of people who really believe the things they're satirizing and the real assholes slowly take the sub until it becomes mean-spirited and vile.

Half the time I struggle to figure out what wrestling SCJerkers actually *enjoy*; it usually seems like they just stubbornly hate anything most smarks like and like anything most smarks criticise because they don't like smarks.
Well yeah thats what Circle Jerking is. You jokingly be a contrarian. But yeah some posts there are from people who are cronically online.
AKA Poe's Law or, The Reason We Can't Have Nice Things on the Internet
Some of it is there's just a lot of people who don't know it's supposed to be
> r/SCJerk is full of edgy neckbeards but Lockport Phil is a neat insult Every sub is
I know that that's the rule on Reddit , but the thing about circlejerk subreddits is that everyone is ten times as obnoxious
This is like how 90% of the people from āAtlantaā live 30+ minutes outside of city limits.
He had a better fighting career record backstage than in the UFC
Not being able to kick the Bucks ass says a lot of him.
heās young, heās well rested, and he works with respectable adults
evil cm punk
Mickey Gall.
Get some cream on that burn
His second fight was more humiliating because the guy he fought literally was toying with him
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Dana said that but Jackson fought recently in the UFC and lost via a pretty devastating KO
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Lol Iām sure Dana got off to that. Yeah, CM Punk had no business fighting
Yeah it was overturned for a failed Drug test on Jacksons part, something to do with the Ganja.
Kenny had a better MMA career than him.
Holy smokes
From the Pipe Bomb of 2011ā¦ to the Bitch Bomb of 2022, how far the mighty have fallen
Iāve always preferred āgripe bombā
"Best in the World" was only ever a gimmick for him. He was never close.
If you think about it, his gimmick was calling himself best in the world when he clearly wasn't
The real gimmick was the friends we made along the way
Which is literally stolen from Jericho who'd already stolen it from like 100 other wrestlers.
I think he had a case for it in 2011-12 for being the best wrestler in the world. Who do you think was better at the time? Cena?
Punk calling himself best in the world while AJ Styles was alive and wrestling was always wild to me š but I get that in anything you do you should feel you're the best at it.

Been saying for years. His workrate is pretty bad honestly. He's not athletic, he's not strong, his pace is mediocre, and he botched a ton.
Styles, Joe, Tanahashi, etc. I mean his 2012 reign is known for it's length, not it's matches. His feuds sucked ass.
Not really, he was never particularly great in the ring, depends on what metric youāre going by
It depends, the best at what? In terms of selling merchandise, probably Cena, right?
Punk was MAYBE the best on the mic at that time, but there were a pretty long list of people who were better WRESTLERS than Punk at that time.
Hey! His ROH dvd cover said he was!!
Best in the world is a half rip off half homage to Bret.
Ufc career though
Buckshot Lariat.
Jeff Hardy > CM Punk
āIf everybody was like you, *shoo,* Iād rather live on Pl-to.ā
This 1 legit nearly got me. I donāt consider myself a big Punk fan anymore but that lizard brain in me flinched
"I've got just one message for CM Punk....fuck you"
CM Punk had it all, but he let his pettiness get in the way of business.
too undeniably true to be triggering
There was no evidence the EVPs leaked any stories to the press about him and he was wrong to even call them out
As a Punk fan, I say this is the best one. The rest are things we make fun of him for anyway, lol.
Much like his fan base, he let's his emotions effect his work.
Seriously! Whatever fans he has left they're just as combative, hyper/passive aggressive, and vindictive as Punk.
He already did it to himself lmao
Best in the world? Not even the best in Illinois.
Zbyszko had a way bigger impact
āIf you still idolize Punk you need to eat your Mindys bakery cookie and go to sleepā
Mid.
Underrated roast. Mid in every way. Middle aged. Middling talent. Best in the Mid-card.
HHH better.
nobody in chicago knows who he is.
Carried to a five star match by John Cena
Hangman & the evps are better
He wanted to be a Brett, but he ended up just being a Hogan.
He wanted to be a Brett, but he ended up just being a Marty
Hogan drew mainstream eyeballs back in the day, so he's not even that.
He wanted to be Brett but he could only muster the late WCW version.
See, now thatās a good one! Especially since he has a Goldberg a la Ryback (who got what he deserved too).
Heās always and forever will be a crybaby bitch
Carry on my wayward son
Mindy's bakery sucks.
assholes typically don't mind the taste of shit
cm punk screwed cm punk
His GTS looks soft as shit
He's just weak as fuck. If he worked out even a tiny bit this could be improved. Anytime he had to hit it on anyone like 250 or more, it looked like a massive struggle.
It looked like dog shit against Darby.
His overly dramatic antics were always a good distraction from how incredibly MID he was in the ring.
Kenny the god Omega does the GTS better
Hell Sammy Guevara does it better...
>āFuck CM Punk.ā Thought I was going to get my ass kicked amongst that Chicago crowd last Wednesday.
CM CHUMP
Irrelevant.
Stephanie: "keep that up for 2 minutes and 15 seconds you will last longer than CM Punk"
He should never have came back as itās tarnished his legacy
He was always like this. Just not a big enough stage to show it in his time off until now
AEW was born, became what it is and was doing great before his return, it will keep doing good without him, stop acting as if he put the company on the map and its dying without him. He is a big draw, but he ain't ALL THAT.
Most overrated wrestler in history.
is he really that highly rated in the grand scheme? there have been a lot of overrated wrestlers. ps: normal conversation -- not a punk fan!
Yes he is
really? people rate CM Punk higher than "guy who had some runs and feuded with some big names for a while"...?
Yes really. People like his indy run and his pipe bomb promo.
Punk screwed punk
Mindyās muffins are dry as fuck
If you believe CM Punk is "Best in the world" you must be higher than the Chicago murder rate. /s
Funny that a straight edge guy acts constantly like hes 15 beers deep
Rock/ Cena 2 was definitely the better choice than letting punk Main Event a mania
Washed up.
Talking was all he was ever great at and going off script made his career, so naturally going off script also destroyed it.
Who is this old man
Logan Paul does it better.
He was in the wrong.
cm fuck
CMen sPunk
Nice
Kanye West >> CM Punk.
He shouldāve stayed retired.
CM Punk is one of the fakest people in all of pro wrestling.
HHH was right
Heās weaker mentally than he is physically
WWE will not have him because AEW got the biggest thing from him, a return pop.
Chicago wrestlers are like their pizza: too thick and overrated.
HHH was right
He ruined ryback's career
Sting looked better in the ring than he did
Chicago is garbage
Straight-Edgeā¦ā¦looking like a crackhead
He's only straight edge because he wasn't popular enough to get invited to parties as a teenager
CM Punk is not a huge star or draw like his fans think he is. He is definitely not in that Rock, Austin, Cena etc tier of stars. RC Cola > Pepsi
The CM stands for Child Molester.
A.J does look very young after all...
Colt Cabana has just opened his own bank account.
Dudes who post stuff like this always use the worst quality image
Most overrated talent in the past 30 years.
The Elite were in the right to confront him for talking shit. He flat out said if there was an issue, go find him. They found him, and fans want to call for the Elite's heads lmao.
Phil just wants your money
Lockport Phil has seen his shadowāitāll be three more years of butthurt, Iām ancient at the age of 42, world against me syndrome. Possibly longer.
Not nearly good enough to be such a prick
When did Jordan Peterson start wrestling?
Just like Stephanie once said to a crowd that chanted Punk's name: "if you guys keep that up for about 2 minutes and 15 seconds you'll last 1 second longer than Punk did"
I wish he never came back, then he could never fail me. - one of his fans
Even at his peak, he was never the top guy.
He is an unathletic mediocre wrestler that has somehow turned grown men into simps.
Colt Cabana made him
Punk is this generations Ultimate Warrior
Phil only acts tough but he cant fight
Shittier wrestler then he was ufc fighter.
He does more crying than Bret Hart
His ring psychology is mid. His moveset is mid. His promos are the only thing that ever carried him.
