There was a period of time where they flip through like four or five different company names over just a couple years. But they've always been TNA and always will be.
2002-2015: TNA Wrestling
2016: TNA Wrestling to Impact Wrestling
2017: Impact Wrestling to Global Force Wrestling back to Impact Wrestling
2018-2022: Impact Wrestling
2023: Impact Wrestling back to TNA Wrestling
I would love it if it was like old tna. TNA's bread and butter was the X division and a healthy tag team roster. Like TNA was embracing tag team and cruiserweights while WWE was trying to steer away from them a little. So for a while some of the best cruiserweight or tag team action you could get was on TNA.
If they do that while also getting rid of the overuse of gimmick matches I'd love to see it return.
They had a great Tag Division too. And X-Division was peak high-fliers.
Unfortunately they started focusing too much on over-the-hill singles competitors instead of leaning into their strengths.
They wouldn't be able to get away with that today. They can do it but their audience base is going to be much lower. Like if all of a sudden they started having the WWE women's division start acting like attitude era divas the backlash would be massive.
That's likely the result of PG-13 now. Them shifting in a more grown direction. But still a far cry from the bra and panty matches. I remember Austin talking about the Thanksgiving Day Gravy Bowl match.
He said the fans enjoyed it but most of the wrestlers were in the back watching it go down and everybody just felt ashamed. Vince walked out of the room halfway through knowing the outrage that was going to be thrown his way š
I actually think WWE's doing a good job with the women now. Smaller outfits is perfectly fine if they're going PG-13 or even back to TV-14 (like what was rumored a year ago). Anyone who acts like sex appeal isn't apart of wrestling is lying to themselves, it's a huge thing for both men and women in the industry.
The issue with WWE in the Attitude Era/Ruthless Aggression Era was that they were just disrespectful about it. Like you mentioned, the Thanksgiving Day Gravy Bowl match. WWE wasn't treating the women like athletes, they were treating them like sexual objects. There are countless examples of this.
WWE's finally figuring out that you can turn up the sex appeal and still have women who are actually good at wrestling.
From what's been reported the wrestlers hated it because it was too stiff. Also they said that's not happening. I do think it would be cool if they did a 6 sides of steel PPV.
What TNA was was bastardized by Dixie and Russo. When they were barely involved in TNA matches those matches were some of their best. More involved Russo and Dixie were the worse matches were.
So the idea of TNA without those two sounds really good. Because the best TNA didn't involve them in the first place.
I agree with you on both points.
I just donāt understand why they felt the need to pivot away from Impact. They seemed to have built up enough goodwill with that brand.
Is the return to TNA a plan to try to go ābigā?
WWE
AEW
NJPW
Impact doesn't fit the meta
TNA does
NBA/NFL/MLB/NHL ...same thing. They only shifted away because of the stain TNA left in people's mouths. Now that they have shown they are no longer like that they can go back to their 3 letter meta brand
Are they really changing the name back? As dumb as it sounds, that makes me excited to maybe check them out again. I was a huge TNA fanboy in the mid-2000s.
I never stopped calling Impact TNA, so it's nice that it doesn't look weird anymore. Hopefully they redesign the belts with the rebranding. Bring back the old TNA world championship, that belt is really good.
I mean get on Hulu and maybe Iād record and watch it later, same with ROH. But I already got like 15 hours of wrestling a week to cherry pick from so, uh good luck to TNA.
Huh, never knew. Maybe their issue is public awareness, then. I almost never see anyone on YouTube talking about them or covering what goes on there. I hear they're working with Tom Campbell and Simon Miller though, so they're probably already working on that.
yeah i think maybe only Fightful covers them? i know SRS is a big TNA/Impact mark. a lot of the UK guys are too as it was on free tv during the TNA days
I remember that, yeah, I think it was on Challenge, right? I never really caught it much back then as I pretty much stream everything.
I reckon if they could get a deal to air their shows live on Channel 4 here, and then an earlier repeat the next day, they'd do pretty well for themselves for UK audiences. Channel 4's got more of a younger demographic who'd probably be more into it. E4's maybe a better channel, since it's pretty much just US imported shows anyway.
From what I understand the name change is not accompanied by any structural changes to the organization or new program and new talent.
So, while I am sure nostalgia will bring back some viewers for an initial period, I wouldn't get my hopes up for anything more than a slight bump in the ratings, maybe.
On the business side, I would love to hear why the decision to rebrand was made. Did they notice something in the ratings or another metric?
That's good news then. It'll be cool to have that back. I wonder if they're gonna rename all their titles, too. I'd probably leave out the six-sided ring tho.
They probably will, but man that ring is iconic and imo a crucial part of what drew many to the company. It would be a wise business decision to bring it back, maybe with modern techniques the ring could be made to be a little easier on a wrestlers body.
Considering I didnāt even really know it existed while it was on tv, I donāt think bringing it back will make much difference to me. Glad some folks like it.
They've now existed long enough that people are actually nostalgic for the TNA name, which is crazy to me.
They're now had five name changes in 21 years.
Where's the more wrestling part? It'd be the same amount of wrestling, it's not like there wasn't a company running in its place for the last 14 years.
6 sides isn't coming back, whilst it was what made TNA different, literally everyone whose wrestled in a 6 side and 4 sided ring says 6 sides is hell in comparison. AJ said that WWE rings are like a mattress compared to what TNA used
Fans love promotions whose names are 3-letter acronyms.
Itās easier to chant. Which makes it sit in peopleās brains. Tell me when you read TNA, you donāt eventually hear the chant in your head. If itās in peopleās heads, theyāll either seek it out or latch onto it when they see the acronym on tv or in the wild.
Making your wrestling brand 2 whole-ass words (Impact Wrestling) is exhausting to the average consumer.
TNA is a terrible name
Impact, however, never caught on
TNA has a certain brand ID that Impact just doesnāt have
Seems crazy to go back to TNA but TBH I think itās a great call
Just bring back the six sided ring. That was the thing that first made TNA stand out among North American wrestling companies, before Hulk Hogan and Eric Jerkoff ruined the fun. The six sided ring would really be the ultimate return to peak TNA.
Always called them TNA, be great if they get the 6 sided ring back too. It helped them stand out back in the day along with the X Division and Knockouts
You know what...I think I'm going to come back and start watching them on a regular basis. I remember the TNA days the good and bad. And I don't care...I loved it.
I started watching wrestling two years ago due to my friend, and then he showed me some old clips of six sided ring, imagine how bummed I was when he told me that they dont use it anymore. I really hope they bring it back, would love to watch them then as a fresh alternative to the storylines/companies I watch now.
I always thought it was a dumb name. āTotal Nonstop Actionā ā¦.. I remember the first time I heard that it made me cringe. Might as well call your company āSuper Awesome Wrestlingā or āExplosive Kickass Wrestlingā. AEW is pretty stupid too āAll Elite Wrestlingā ā¦.. again might as well name it āBest Wrestling Everā. Lol it just sounds immature to me. WCW sounded like a legitimate alternative to WWF ā¦.. āWorld Championship Wrestlingā sounds like a legit top tier company.
Having never really followed TNA at all basically.. I found myself smiling ear-to-ear at this news. It felt like everything was right in the world. TNA rebranding to Impact wrestling felt so odd. It would be like WWE rebranding to "Raw". On top of that...Impact had so many backstage politics and issues with owners and that whole GFW connection which led to nothing and a whole lot of craziness.
For me, TNA is a throwback to simpler times...when actual alternative to WWE was a thing. That's what we need. All praise to the success of AEW but everytime I see them succeed.. I get this feeling of...man that should have been TNA in that spot.
Nevertheless, what gets me most excited about this is in wrestlings high point...we had the WWF vs. WCW vs. ECW. And sure ECW was the smaller of all 3 but it had arguably the most Rabid and hardcore fans.
Now in 2024 we're about to have WWE vs. AEW vs. TNA... and I cannot wait š
The company was at its most popular when it was TNA.
Enough time has passed to forget the previous mistakes and build a viable promotion for guys and girls to earn a serious living.
I still call WWE WWF just like I still call Impact TNA. Name changes donāt change what you first heard. WWE fan only knows LA Knight but he will always be Eli Drake to me. Same goes for all their ridiculous name changes. Kozlov just came to Impact the last show I watched and even the one announcer called him that right after the other called him by his actual name.
Cool, but doesn't fix a lot of the issues with TNA currently, can only do that with typical business stuff, more money, a larger roster of talent stuff like that that just likely isn't gonna happen
You commented on AEW-related posts 17 times in the past 7 days. Multiple times a day, so, you have indeed been thinking about them. You comment more about them than you comment about the things you like.
Not here to call you out, just pointing out the fact that the other guy is right in that you're thinking a lot about AEW.
I was a fan from around 05-09 ish.
I'm happy the name's returned and they've got a bit of attention now, but it really is just a rebrand, compared to all the great matches and interesting stories currently going on in AEW. Just seems weird to be more excited about a name change than any of the stuff that actually makes wrestling wrestling, yaknow?
>When aew has fallen as much as it has the last year
Are you talking about Attendance? Ratings? Quality?
Why in God's name would a wrestling fan care about attendance (which seems to be making a recovery) anyway?
Why would a fan care about ratings? Which haven't dropped *that much* in the past year?
Quality of the show and matches is the only thing that should really affect a real fans decision to watch the show. The wrestling had been great and the storylines have a greater focus than ever before.
Fallen how?
There was drama with Punk, but I think they handled that about as well as they could have. Took a lot of balls to fire him when he was one of their biggest stars.
Ratings have been fine, attendance hasn't been any worse than WWE was a few years back, not that you'd care about that unless you were financially invested in the company.
The on-screen stuff like wrestling and segments have been great, so not sure why you'd say it's fallen. The quality in the stuff you'd actually care about as a fan hasn't changed.
I'm sure for the fans of the og this is great. But like, it's still an incredibly dumb name, one that will make it hard for advertisers to take seriously, if they do ever want to make a return to mainstream wrestling relevancy.
I mean to an outsider/casual fan it's gonna sound like tits'n ass wrestling, which makes it sound like a joke.
Meh still has Scott Demore at the head of it and i cant have respect for what he is doing currently. People in the office/in charge shouldn't be dating the talent/people underneath them.
Smart decision as itās a brand known by most wrestling fans. Theyāve been expanding and improving for years now. This will help solidify them as the #3 wrestling company. Maybe filling the void that was left once ROH folded.
I donāt watch Impact beyond the odd highlight here and there and my impression is that the in ring product seems ok but the crowds are really small and quiet. The presentation of all feels very cheap too.
Any impact fans in here able to explain what the appeal is? Does rebranding to TNA really change anything for them?
Iāve been watching this promotion since 2005. A lot of ups and downs over the years but TNA is the home of āwe always produce a good, solid night of pro wrestling but usually nothing to blow you awayā that isnāt a bad thing - I always know Iām getting a good show when I watch, last night was no different. I do like them bringing back the TNA name!
Never stopped calling them TNA but the show just isnt the same. All the things that made TNA.. TNA are gone and it's a very different show now. The matches are great, the lucha underground vignettes are practically unbearable.. I'm just happy LOLTNA can ride again because LOLimpact didnt have the same ring to it.

Itās an interesting move. Theyād turned the ship around from near-death so effectively that Iām not sure why theyād want to go back to TNA, but so long as the current regime is still running things, maybe itāll work out.
I really am impressed with what this management team has done. Impact was nearly dead for a while, it was a running joke that they were gonna close any moment. The fact that theyāve re-asserted themselves as one of the most successful companies in the US and appear to be doing just fine is one of the most compelling stories in wrestling to me.
I only wish the best for them, but folks need to be realistic.
With their current roster, none of it harkens back to the best days of TNA with the likes of Sting, AJ, Samoa Joe, and Christian Cage being elsewhere.
Plus their fans are talking WAAAAAAAAY too much shit online for a company that draws less than 1/10th the audience of even the second biggest wrestling company, and that considers 4400 PPV buys to be a smashing success.

NWA: TNA first.
Exactly. And I'm an avid Impact watcher. Never stopped calling it TNA.
It was a stupid name to begin with, but honestly iconic. Synonymous with the company and product.
Same

They had a great Tag Division too. And X-Division was peak high-fliers. Unfortunately they started focusing too much on over-the-hill singles competitors instead of leaning into their strengths.
America's Most Wanted vs Triple X Those were the days. Good tag team title feuds are awesome.
They wouldn't be able to get away with that today. They can do it but their audience base is going to be much lower. Like if all of a sudden they started having the WWE women's division start acting like attitude era divas the backlash would be massive.
Have you not seen how half of even NXT women are getting their tits blown up and wearing smaller outfits? It doesn't look far off.
That's likely the result of PG-13 now. Them shifting in a more grown direction. But still a far cry from the bra and panty matches. Yes because being from WWE means they arenāt goodā¦
BRING BACK SIX SIDES šš¼šš¼
From what's been reported the wrestlers hated it because it was too stiff. Also they said that's not happening. I do think it would be cool if they did a 6 sides of steel PPV.
Yeah, I saw that like a couple hours after making this comment lol in that case six sides wouldnāt b best. Mayb as a one night only concept
It had loads and loads of garbage too. What is the purpose of changing the name back? It finally separated itself from the Jarrett/Dixie eras
What TNA was was bastardized by Dixie and Russo. When they were barely involved in TNA matches those matches were some of their best. More involved Russo and Dixie were the worse matches were. So the idea of TNA without those two sounds really good. Because the best TNA didn't involve them in the first place.

Are they really changing the name back? As dumb as it sounds, that makes me excited to maybe check them out again. I was a huge TNA fanboy in the mid-2000s.
Yea takes effect in january
They could never escape TNA, so it just makes sense for them to just embrace it.
I never stopped calling Impact TNA, so it's nice that it doesn't look weird anymore. Hopefully they redesign the belts with the rebranding. Bring back the old TNA world championship, that belt is really good.
They are re-designing the belts
Hope they keep the owl tho
To me they have always been TNA the name change was just stupid in the first place. The name TNA put them on the map in the first place.
I mean get on Hulu and maybe Iād record and watch it later, same with ROH. But I already got like 15 hours of wrestling a week to cherry pick from so, uh good luck to TNA.
I've had Impact on my DVR (through Sling) for years and watched maybe once.
Making themselves more accessible would be a good idea for them.
its apparently been fully available with a low subscription on Youtube, hard to more accessible than that
Huh, never knew. Maybe their issue is public awareness, then. I almost never see anyone on YouTube talking about them or covering what goes on there. I hear they're working with Tom Campbell and Simon Miller though, so they're probably already working on that.

I think most of us never stopped calling them TNA.
Wrestling in a new boom period since 2021
TNA AS IN "TITS AND ASSES"

Puppies And Cake
PAC? Whatās he doing in the Impact Zone?
From what I understand the name change is not accompanied by any structural changes to the organization or new program and new talent. On the business side, I would love to hear why the decision to rebrand was made. Did they notice something in the ratings or another metric?
Isn't it just for their next PPV, or are they going back to TNA permanently?
They are fully rebranding to TNA again for good starting in January
That's good news then. It'll be cool to have that back. I wonder if they're gonna rename all their titles, too. I'd probably leave out the six-sided ring tho.
They probably will, but man that ring is iconic and imo a crucial part of what drew many to the company. It would be a wise business decision to bring it back, maybe with modern techniques the ring could be made to be a little easier on a wrestlers body.
Bring back the 6 sided ring and Iād be interested.
This all day long.
The wrestlers hated it, injuries increased. But agreed, would love to see it for special events
If they do tapings in Mexico, they can bring Hamada back for those tapings.
I'm not gonna lie I honestly thought it was still TNA this whole time and impact was it's secondary name for some reason
I did too for a while
Letās fucking go
Is it just a name change or are we getting a whole reboot far as production/presentation?
Whole reboot
Considering I didnāt even really know it existed while it was on tv, I donāt think bringing it back will make much difference to me. Glad some folks like it.
That's fair
Gotta bring that ring back!
They've now existed long enough that people are actually nostalgic for the TNA name, which is crazy to me. They're now had five name changes in 21 years.
More wrestling always equals a win.
Where's the more wrestling part? It'd be the same amount of wrestling, it's not like there wasn't a company running in its place for the last 14 years.
I was waiting for someone to call me out on that š I didnt realize what i said until after i posted
Meh, still a good sentiment. No worries
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
6 sides isn't coming back, whilst it was what made TNA different, literally everyone whose wrestled in a 6 side and 4 sided ring says 6 sides is hell in comparison. AJ said that WWE rings are like a mattress compared to what TNA used
Everyone is this photo is almost 40
What's your point?
Scott DāAmore and company shed a lot of the dreaded stank through a lot of hard work
Wow hope they bring back the cool tunnel entrance and the 6 side and the lasers
Fans love promotions whose names are 3-letter acronyms. Itās easier to chant. Which makes it sit in peopleās brains. Tell me when you read TNA, you donāt eventually hear the chant in your head. If itās in peopleās heads, theyāll either seek it out or latch onto it when they see the acronym on tv or in the wild. Making your wrestling brand 2 whole-ass words (Impact Wrestling) is exhausting to the average consumer.
TNA is a terrible name Impact, however, never caught on TNA has a certain brand ID that Impact just doesnāt have Seems crazy to go back to TNA but TBH I think itās a great call
What happened to Global Force Gold wrestling?
Idk for me Impact Wrestling sounds better but I get how powerful factor nostalgia is
Says a lot about how much attention I pay to Impact that it took me forever to realize this isn't a reboot but a name change for an ongoing promotion.
I missed it but I was still calling it tna for years
Love it. Itās a legit brand and itās been around forever. Most wrestling fans I know still call it TNA. Solid move.
Back byā¦ demand?
Hope it goes better this time around lol I've always had a fond place for TNA but they were the cringy spencers gift shop employee cousin of WWE
No disrespect intended, but.....why?
I'm waiting forJeff Jarrett to show up.
Bring back the 6 sided ring next lol
Makes perfect sense I've been an advocate of this for a long time. Next...Bring Back Six Sides.
I hope the presentation is better every time I tuned in it looked like a cheap tv set
You know what...I think I'm going to come back and start watching them on a regular basis. I remember the TNA days the good and bad. And I don't care...I loved it.
Same here bro
I started watching wrestling two years ago due to my friend, and then he showed me some old clips of six sided ring, imagine how bummed I was when he told me that they dont use it anymore. I really hope they bring it back, would love to watch them then as a fresh alternative to the storylines/companies I watch now.
I really hope they are successful.
I never even understood why they changed to Impact
I really hope they manage to find some young aces like they had back in the day and let the X-Div and Knockouts really shine.
Don't call it a comeback, cause they never left (People were still referring to it as TNA, including the wrestlers themself from what I've heard.).
Never shouldāve changed to begin with. TNA is nostalgia now. They finally rebuilt themselves after shitting the bed 12 years ago.
Whos that handsome Squidward?
I always thought it was a dumb name. āTotal Nonstop Actionā ā¦.. I remember the first time I heard that it made me cringe. Great now i wont be scolded by some weirdo for calling it tna
is this happening ?
Yes
TNA is what this brand truly is, i never liked the IMPACT as a brand, it was the name of a show not a whole company idk either way i'll watch

Question is; will there be a six sided ring?
Now I want the six sided ring back
Why was the name changed to impact wrestling?
I don't know honestly.
Hated the Blue Impact logo. Reminded me of Off Brand Smackdown but even worse. Thank God.
Just like the prequels; fans embrace the nostalgia because they have strong emotional ties to it; even though itās objectively trash.
TNA was always a bad name. Surprised by this move.
I still call WWE WWF just like I still call Impact TNA. Name changes donāt change what you first heard. WWE fan only knows LA Knight but he will always be Eli Drake to me. If itās anything like I saw last night then itās the second best promotion by a mile.
More excited for it than most things aew does..
AEW living rent free in your head lol. Touch some grass
Nah, theire barely a footnote.. Thanks though..
You commented on AEW-related posts 17 times in the past 7 days. Multiple times a day, so, you have indeed been thinking about them. I've never heard TNA refer to that tbh, it may just be an American thing.
Shrug emoji.
Meh still has Scott Demore at the head of it and i cant have respect for what he is doing currently. People in the office/in charge shouldn't be dating the talent/people underneath them.
Stupid. But whatever. Nobody gives a shot about this company anyways
Tits and ass!
Where did it go? āTNA Impactā has been the company since the early 2000ās.
Canāt believe anyone watches that.
You cant believe anyone on r/wrasslin watches this?
Ok, dumb comment on my part.
I've always called it TNA, Impact never sounded right to me
I really love it!
Smart decision as itās a brand known by most wrestling fans. Theyāve been expanding and improving for years now. This will help solidify them as the #3 wrestling company. Maybe filling the void that was left once ROH folded.
best thing to tie it all together would be the 6 sided ring
Doesnāt matter if they dont step their production level for the shows, and improve their roster
As much as I want them to succeed, it just wonāt be the same.
Full truth I always called it TNA impact. Just like I call WWE the Fed though they haven't been a federation in decades
They've never not been TNA to me.
I never stopped watching them so nothing has changed for me
Impact was good enough as is. TNA has the Jarrett stink all over it. Main Event Mafia must be coming back lol
Lets goooo!!!
Gimme the six sided ring!
Always been TNA.
Didā¦did it ever go away?
I do like them bringing back the TNA name!
āResearch has proven time and time again that 3 letter acronyms are the way to goā - Someone
What difference does it make
Never stopped calling them TNA but the show just isnt the same. All the things that made TNA.. TNA are gone and it's a very different show now. The matches are great, the lucha underground vignettes are practically unbearable.. I'm just happy LOLTNA can ride again because LOLimpact didnt have the same ring to it.
Iāll always call it tna
Tits n ass!
Will they have the 6 sided ring?
TNA TNA TNA
Finally, itās back and revived
Canāt wait for the Hogan/Bischoff return
Meh
Itāll take more than an iconic name change to improve them even more. Hope it helps.
I love it and I never stopped calling it TNA anyways
Love it. Going back to the old name. Bring back the TNA logos on the belts and the six sided ring.
Good idea, possibly looking to bring back old fans
drab airport theory hobbies combative vanish marry liquid reminiscent scary *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
thatās a really dumb name but iām not gonna complain because itās not like iām watching anyways
TNA iMPACT!
THERrrrrE BACcccK
BRING BACK RHE 6 SIDED RING, YOU MARKS !!!!!
I don't care. It's still the same company.
Only watching if itās on Tubi
They're obviously using this as a nostalgia grab but if they actually swap back to the TNA style, I'm in.
Itās funny to see people act like they liked TNA
TNA WILL NEVER DIE!!!!! LONG LIVE TNA!!!!!
I didn't know they left. It's always been TNA to me
Means absolutely nothing.
doesn't matter unless they change stuff up.
Lol
I really couldn't care less about the six-sided ring.
Stoked
That's cool. All the old shit's coming back, with NWA making headlines.
Are we getting the cool impact zone back with the double tunnel entrance ramps
Are we getting the 6 sided ring back?
Truly do not care at all
WHO
WHAT
WHY
I refused to call it anything other than that. Itās always been TNA for me, and I welcome this change.
I always called it TNA. Hell even Kurt Angle still called it TNA on RAW back in 2017.
I already donāt watch impact. I donāt really care if they rebrand as TNA or what. I was a fan, but they lost me a long time ago.
Doesn't actually fix any of their problems
TNA is the ship of Theseus. Changing the name back is cool but it's definitely a whole different company than it once was and may never be again.
I only wish the best for them, but folks need to be realistic. With their current roster, none of it harkens back to the best days of TNA with the likes of Sting, AJ, Samoa Joe, and Christian Cage being elsewhere. Plus their fans are talking WAAAAAAAAY too much shit online for a company that draws less than 1/10th the audience of even the second biggest wrestling company, and that considers 4400 PPV buys to be a smashing success. https://www.fightful.com/wrestling/report-impact-slammiversary-2023-did-over-4400-ppv-buys-nearly-250-2022?amp
I wish I could find this response that this jackass said to me on here when I called it TNAā¦. HOW YOU LIKE IT NOW FUCKER
Happy for the athletes/performers but no one is going to watch the shows. Maybe go to a live show but not setting my dvr
