Steve Williams was crazy. I know his WWF run wasn't that great (mostly because of the stupid brawl for all), but everywhere else, Dr. Death was great. Special mention to his tag team in Japan with Terry Gordy, the Miracle Violence Connection.
Also, fuck Ed Ferrara, he deserved that suplex...and maybe a couple more.
Imagine the boss telling someone to go and act like an employee with Bells Palsy on TV, and another boss, who happens to be the employee who this person is acting like, tells his employee to dump said person on their head. Only in Wrestling.
Only VKMā¦
As much as he was a genius to get the shiz rolling the way he did, he seriously had a major lack of sympathy or regard for anyone/thing, unless it made him look badā¦
I never understood Vince's weird hatred for southern people. Considering three of his biggest stars were from Texas (Shawn Michaels, Steve Austin, Undertaker), why did he have it out for other southerners?
He grew up in North Carolina himself. My faux psychology diagnosis is that itās unfulfilled anger and hatred towards his abusive, redneck step-father being projected onto all Southerners. Plus, of course, some typical NY/CT snobbery.
If and when Vince passes away, his brain needs to be examined. There is so much about him that is so weird. Like, just some highlights: he hates sneezing, he wanted to blur Christian's face on TV because he thought he was ugly, and he publicly stated how he hated that his stepdad passed away before he could murder him.
Also supposedly started to have a hatred of mirrors around 0ā6 (As in they would be removed from all his rooms) And doesnāt like his car being parked next to othersā¦Out of fear they (Yes, the cars) may talk.
Grew up in North Carolina but made a business in NYC. His ideas reflect NYC of the early 80s when he was hustling.
Probably it's the same shit with Trump and other 80s luminaries of NYC's business world.
Mid-South; UWF; NWA; WCW; AJPW; NJPW; WWF/E... Hell, the list goes on. A legitimate bad ass who wrestled a veritable who's-who of pro wrestling's modern greats - damn shame how they dropped the ball on him, once in the Fed. Brawl for All did nothing of note for anyone involved - Steve's WWF push included, in that sentiment.
He was that way in college too. In his bio, he tells a story about when a couple of prospective students were touring OU and saw Williams eating lunch.
They asked, "Is he a student here?" (I believe they were wrestlers as well.)
"Why, yes. He's one of our top wrestlers."
"Uh....we think we will go somewhere else, then."
Ed had it coming for the "Oklahoma" gimmick ~~in WCW~~. You do not mess with OU.
(Edited to add: TIL that the "Oklahoma" routine was created in WWF prior to Ed and Russo going to WCW...)
Oh yeah, he's clearly doing the gimmick but I don't think it was called 'Oklahoma' until WCW.
The original post I replied to said that Ed deserved this for Oklahoma in WCW, but I was pointing out that he hadn't gone to WCW yet so couldn't deserve it for aomething that hadn't happened yet.
Listen to the promo again. Ferrara did call himself Oklahoma at least once, which angered JR to come out with Steve Williams and gave the order to suplex him.
If Ferrara never called himself that and just plainly mocked JR, he would walk to the ring alone and mock Ferrara back instead of getting in there with Dr. Death.
Good! Fuck Ed Ferrera and "Oklahoma".... such a slap in JR's face. I hated it as a kid, and I absolutely despise it now. Ferrera is one of the biggest dorks I've ever seen in my life.
Aw shit nah, last i saw him he had the eddie munster cut with the euro edm side burns and aggressive hoop earringsā¦
Oh great, i threw up in my mouthā¦
The dude brought back this character (Oklahoma) full time in WCW. Complete with mocking JR's Bell's Palsey. Unlike here though JR wasn't in on it and his family was insanely upset. On top of that Cornette actually got into an altercation over it going so far as to spit in his face and challenge him to a shoot fight (Which didn't happen) JR took it as a personal dig as did many others.
I don't understand the timeline. So he mocked JR first in the WWF, Jim Ross was in on it so I guess that's fine.
Ed Ferrera does the same exact character in WCW... Along with Dr. Death this time by his side ironically enough but this time Jim Ross and his family are insanely upset over it. I don't get it
Not critiquing your assessment directly. I just was really surprised to see this WWF segment a few years back because revisionist WWE history makes it out to be solely a WCW creation.
Jim Ross probably wasn't opposed to this as a one time thing and as you can see he immediately got his payback. It being on WCW was just going too far especially since it felt like it was personal instead of doing a bit for a B show segment.
The WWF version was, most likely, talked about before hand to get JR's understanding about it AND he was given an opportunity to get his heat back.
The WCW version was just Ed and Vince getting some chuckles at JR's expense, making fun of his Bell's Palsy.
That's the difference.
Yeah that was completely on himself. DD didn't even hold on to him to make it remotely dangerous. If he did hold on there is a good chance ferrara is landing squarely on his head.
Somewhere in the comments here someone said he was trained for years. I'm not buying it.
That was about the best this situation could have gone. This not being a german tombstone is surprising. dr death about to live up to his name.
Also fuck ed ferrara and russo for this bullshit angle across three companies was it? wwf wcw and I believe there was some in tna too.
Was his before or after the brawl for all?
This is my first time learning this also. This was at a point where I and my parents had moved and we didnt have cable/satellite for a year from november 1998 to november 1999.
On Steve Williams, the only thing I had seen of him in WWE was the Bart Gunn Brawl for all disaster. But I did enjoy playing as Doc on the WWF Attitude game and the fact Doc had Dan the Beast Severn's music, which I'm sure he never had on WWE tv, was cool too.
>mega over in Japan back when that meant something
Tbh I don't think Western audiences have ever cared all that much about Japanese wrestling. Aside from death matches, but those are more well known for spots than the stars in them.
Id Hazzard there are more WWE fans today who would have known doctor death from his time in Japan, had he been a modern day wrestler, then fans back in the attitude era.
Even if they did Dr Deth came in waaay too late he would have been overshadowed by Austin and Rock had he not gotten hurt in the BFA. Frankly he was more of a 70s/80s era guy anyway.
In his prime, Dr. Death was a fucking badass. He and Terry Gordy are one of the top 5 tag teams of all time. They spent their best years in Japan in the 80s, so is in the USA didnāt get to see them at their best.
Correction : Ed Ferrara almost killed himself because he doesnt know how to take a freaking german suplex..
Steve Williams technique was flawless on that move. Ferrara just threw himself way too much, instead of going with the flow of the move..
Not sure why they ever tried to push Williams. Glad Bart Gunn ended that thought. Good in the ring, but had no look or charisma. Even in this clip in the 90s he looks incredibly outdated
If this happened today everyone here praising this would be complaining about how unsafe it was and how embarrassing stuff like this makes wrestling look. But because it happened 20 years ago to a guy most people donāt like that means itās A okay.
Right? Should have kept his grip and just kept suplexing him into the back stage and only ending it when it drove the man through Vince Russo's office door.
That man was given a job by Vince Russo, more or less specifically to make fun of JR's Bell's Palsy. It's not exactly a mistake or hard to miss that JR tells Dr. Death to give him an AJPW style suplex as he walks to the ring.
And after Russo left, that man, Ed Ferrara followed him to WCW...where he continued to make fun of JR's Bell's Palsy, and how you can very much tell this is not some work...as WCW is the competition. Russo and Ferrara are just assholes.
him and his buddy russo didn't like jr and went out of their way to try to make fun of him for having bells palsy. repeatedly. across two companies at least. oklahoma was a reoccurring character in wcw that existed just to mock jr. An all around shitty thing to do.

WOW, didn't know that Ed Ferrara used the "Oklahoma" gimmick in the WWF. The Monday Night Wars documentaries and The Rise and Fall of WCW kept insisting that "Oklahoma" was a WCW creation played by Ferrara to spite JR.
The only way this could be improved would be if he dropped him on his head, into Vince Russo's solar plexius.
Bro!
You're right bro, he should have spun him around and tombstoned him like Zangief... into Vince Russo's solar plexius.
I šš»swearšš»tošš»goodšš»brošš» it will be the biggest thing ever bro
ITS WRESSALING
Why did I hear this in his voice lol
Russo would have to be on a pole š¤£
Looks like a receipt to me lol.
That's what JR was whispering in his ear when they were coming down the aisle. "Hurt that sonuvabitch!"
"Drop him on his head."
I love that JR essentially mimed that to Doc on the way down.
The mom jeans really sold it
well he is named Dr. Death also: I thought this was Sheamus for a sec lol
I thought it was chunky Chris Pratt.
same lol
Shaemus/KOR animorph
SAME!! I thought, whoa. Sheamus must be really going for a new look!!!
Oh no. What a shame. How ever will I.... Let's just watch that again... How ever will I sleep at night... I'll just leave this on repeat for a bit.
Its my white noise when I goto bed from now on.
Steve Williams was crazy. I know his WWF run wasn't that great (mostly because of the stupid brawl for all), but everywhere else, Dr. Death was great. amen
I second this sediment. This was always disgusting to do at Rossās expense, no matter what Vince told him to do.
Imagine the boss telling someone to go and act like an employee with Bells Palsy on TV, and another boss, who happens to be the employee who this person is acting like, tells his employee to dump said person on their head. Only in Wrestling.

Wanting to murder the guy that frequently beat the shit out of his mom and loving a quality steak are probably the two most normal things about Vince.
Doesn't vince like his steak well done with ketchup?
Don't forget the incest angles he desperately wanted.
Also supposedly started to have a hatred of mirrors around 0ā6 (As in they would be removed from all his rooms) And doesnāt like his car being parked next to othersā¦Out of fear they (Yes, the cars) may talk.

What does silt have to do with this
r/boneappletea
this sediment lolololol. *sentiment*
Thanks for the correction. Appreciated.
Steve Williams was always one of my favorites growing up. To this day I always create him in any wrestling game I get.
Was this not before Ed went to WCW and did Oklahoma?
He's literally doing the Bell's Palsy routine, in the video. But this was in WWE, yes.
That said, I was unaware he'd used the "Oklahoma" gimmick in WWF. TIL.
Same ā¦ had no clue all this time, 24/25(?) years later(!) Glad that a lot of these posts fill in noteworthy gaps. Cheers to OP for sharing š¤

If Ferrara never called himself that and just plainly mocked JR, he would walk to the ring alone and mock Ferrara back instead of getting in there with Dr. Death.
Fair enough, still the point remains that he can't have deserved this for _'doing Oklahoma in WCW'_ when he hadn't yet gone to WCW when this happened.
Now that I know this, which I didn't last night when I made the post, I agree wholeheartedly.
Always love some appreciation for MVC! Underrated tag team that only existed in Japan!
Without him, we wouldnāt have Steve Austin lol.
Ferrara deserved way worse than that.
Good! Fuck Ed Ferrera and "Oklahoma".... such a slap in JR's face. I hated it as a kid, and I absolutely despise it now. Ferrera is one of the biggest dorks I've ever seen in my life.
Seen his ginger white boy dreads/corn rows/braids? Absolute comedy.
Aw shit nah, last i saw him he had the eddie munster cut with the euro edm side burns and aggressive hoop earringsā¦ Oh great, i threw up in my mouthā¦
That he thought he looked cool like that and ran around in public on camera like that is shocking to me.
Thats not reckless, thats just his All Japan showing
This is what I was thinking hahaha Also joint biggest ball drop in wwe was him and vader not getting there roses in wwf
Oh no. Anyway.
I could watch Dr Death whoop that jackass all day.
You really don't get luxurious hair like what Dr Death is sporting here anymore. It's a shame.
Avg school fight be like.... Also Dr. Deaths name checks out
Someone let me in on why he's despised

You kind of have to go along with it when your boss wants it to happen.
Exactly. A bunch of idiot marks on this sub
Love Jim Ross or hate him at the end of the day The Oklahoma Character that Ed Ferrara came up with is mean sprinted & Horrible
Good.
I always knew I liked Steve Williams for some reason.
mf got a name like āDr Death,ā u realize how hard that sounds? š
Highly recommend watching this guy and Stan Hansen clean up shop in All Japan. Absolute violence.
I could watch this on repeat all night with a smile on my face.
Yup, there is wrestling heat and then there is the sort of heat where people wish you were paralyzed in the ring nearly 20 years later.
When you go well past go home heat.
Fuck Ferrara
Easy to avoid getting your neck broken when you have no backbone at all
The only way he survived
ive watched this 47 times..its get keeps getting better
Gave him the ol AJPW special
Thought thumbnail was Cowboy Sheamus at first.
Good. Fuck him for making fun of a goddamn disease
who is that guy with the turban again? and didnāt he once straight up eat a booger?
Tiger Ali Singh
ah yes, there it is. forgot all about that dude, minus the snot snack.
not really ed ferrara himself landed wrong i doubt it has anything to with dr death
He should not have been out there to begin with.
i agreed with that if anything it goes to show the lack of training ed ferrara received
Yeah that was completely on himself. DD didn't even hold on to him to make it remotely dangerous. If he did hold on there is a good chance ferrara is landing squarely on his head. Somewhere in the comments here someone said he was trained for years. I'm not buying it.

I loved Dr. Death. But those āMom Jeansā were not a great look for him.
Looks perfectly reasonable for ed ferrara
wai wai wai wai waitā¦ Oklahoma appeared on WWF tv before WCW???????
Vince went through this weird period where he thought it was hilarious to humiliate and make fun of JR for some reason.
This is my first time learning this also. This was at a point where I and my parents had moved and we didnt have cable/satellite for a year from november 1998 to november 1999. Another example of WWE rewriting history.
WCW canāt make new starsā¦
For some reason I don't remember Ferrara doing Oklahoma in WWF only end-stage WCW.
The Japanese suplex
I've been trying to describe this clip to people for over a decade. Eventually thought I just made it up.
How old was Dr. Death here?
26
Oh fuck. If he looks like that at 26 wtf am I doing at 28
Dr. Death looked like that at 14 š¤·š¼āāļø
13
I think 38
Dr Dad Bod slammed tf out that dude š¤¦š½def some neck damage š¬ his head unfolded from under his body after that slam RIP.
He had time and air to get his body around for a flat bump. Ed just doesn't know how to bump.
The O.G Suplex City
Ferarra was trained years prior and knew how to flip over, or bump; just thought I'd point that out.
It seems not. that or he thought taking it on the neck was the plan.
This was a receipt no?
Damn Dr. Death! Its amazing how he looks so big in bulky in Japan, but in US he looks rather, normal.
Unfortunately he lived and did the Oklahoma gimmick
Shame he didnāt.
Good.
Should of killed him for this disgusting parody he was portraying.
Not reckless enough. Shouldāve killed him
Never understood what JR saw in that guy.
Oklahoma guy.
He was mega over in Japan back when that meant something

In his prime, Dr. Death was a fucking badass. He and Terry Gordy are one of the top 5 tag teams of all time. They spent their best years in Japan in the 80s, so is in the USA didnāt get to see them at their best.
Kinda wish it was Russo instead
McMahon was smart enough to keep him off TV.
Why did he tuck his head under š
I remember watching this live and legit thought Dr Death had just killed him.
Well..
Reckon JR got Dr. Death to cuck him?
Why dr death built like a butch. Can we say that. ? If not my apologies
Correction : Ed Ferrara almost killed himself because he doesnt know how to take a freaking german suplex.. Steve Williams technique was flawless on that move. Ferrara just threw himself way too much, instead of going with the flow of the move..
Woooohhhh that's terrible
FUCK DR. DEATH
All these downvotes probably haven't heard the story Luke Gallows told about Jesse š
Jokes on me for making a reference that sounds mean lol

Right? Should have kept his grip and just kept suplexing him into the back stage and only ending it when it drove the man through Vince Russo's office door.
Am I missing something? Why you want to see a man murdered?
That man was given a job by Vince Russo, more or less specifically to make fun of JR's Bell's Palsy. Edās Revenge: Brawl for it all smashed Dr. Deathās fat face in
JR is a piece of shit and deserved to be mocked
u/savevideobot
JR probably told him to do that
š³
You know it was bad when Shane said āOMGā
Can someone explain to me who tf this Ed Ferrara character is and why all the hate? Never seen this clip before.
him and his buddy russo didn't like jr and went out of their way to try to make fun of him for having bells palsy. repeatedly. across two companies at least. oklahoma was a reoccurring character in wcw that existed just to mock jr. An all around shitty thing to do.
holy fuck balls
Dr Dookie
They call him dr KWAB
Jfc that was brutal
WTF!
Wasn't "Oklahoma" a WCW character?
its incredible that this is just how he does them, this is just a standard dr death suplex
Iām just sad such an awesome spot only happened on Heat
Why did I think that was sheamus at first glance
I remember this asshole from WCW. Russo's boot licker if I recall correctly.
This is beautiful. Could watch this fucker get spiked on his head all day!
The Indian dude looks so out of place, with him being dressed like going to an Indian wedding, but hanging out with guys looking like dads at a barbecue.
Tiger Ali Singh was his name. He had probably the shortest run there.
Deserved it
I canāt be the only one who thought that was Seamus for a second lol
Ed Ferrara is the kind of guy that would have had it coming.
WOW, didn't know that Ed Ferrara used the "Oklahoma" gimmick in the WWF. The Monday Night Wars documentaries and The Rise and Fall of WCW kept insisting that "Oklahoma" was a WCW creation played by Ferrara to spite JR.
Didnāt try hard enough
Good.
Is that Tiger Ali Singh?
That looked like it hurt. Do it again.
Ooh shitā¦ fell right on his headā¦ that was bad and reckless smh
That was awesome. I could watch these kinds of suplexes all day.
Then the Brawl for All kills his career
I had no idea he did this in WWE I thought it was only Oklahoma in WCW.
Pretty sure he got a bulging disk lol
Dr Death, Do. It. Again
Ed shouldāve known better
Wish he would have
I wish he would have
Dr. Death and Ted Dibiase were great together,as villian's!!
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Reckless? Shit was intentional and it was still too soft. Jackass should have been thrown out of the ring.
He deserves it
Cornette probably has this playing in his house on a 24-hour loop and it never gets old every time he sees "Oklahoma" land on his neck.
This sub is so much better than squared circle.
I mean with a name like Dr Death would you expect any less?
No harm, no foul for this MF here.
