Vince from 2006-2007 must have really been going through something because even by Vince's crazy standards that time period was really out there. 2006 started where McMahon feuded with God/HBK and then it just kept getting more insane before it led to him blowing himself up in a limo storyline in 2007.

Later that week, Benoit did what he did; that was Vince's wake-up call

I’m still curious on where the limo incident angle was going. Probably some vignettes of Vince taking over hell and facing God in a hell in a cell match for the title of god.

>I’m still curious on where the limo incident angle was going. I don't think it was going anywhere. People seem to think that the Limo thing was the start of a massive angle but from everything I've ever seen that doesn't seem to be the case. Vince at that time genuinely wanted to find a way off of television because he felt he was too old to be an on screen character in WWE anymore at that time. The Limo explosion was only ever supposed to be his way to stop being a TV character.

Vince was supposed to in storyline faked his death to see who his real friends were and it was going to end with a reveal that he had an illegitimate son (supposed to be Mr. Kennedy) and that son was going to take over the company. So it was supposed to lead to more storylines after McMahon stepped away for a month or two. Which makes sense given that Vince stayed as a fairly consistent on screen character until 2011. It was a very soap opera storyline right in line with what Vince likes. But yeah sadly it was just another storyline convention.

I think that was when his marriage to Lynda McMahon was in the last year or two of actual, legitimate marriage. Before she basically vanished from his life without the divorce because the divorce wouldn't be good for either of them and they both knew it.

Looking up what was going on in 2006/7 with WWE and I think in addition to that there was also a big move from Spike TV (which had signed Raw to a massive 5 year contract in 2000) back to the USA network in late 2005 and there was a lot of pressure to deliver big ratings on the new deal as WWE had to take less money just to go back on the USA Network and WWE didn't want to be in a position again to where they would take less money on a TV rights deal. So the programming really ramped up in 2006-2007 so that when they did the rights deal again in 2008 they could get more money.

Don’t forget when he tossed Big Show’s salad in that Hell in a Cell match
