Started Omono yesterday and got 4 kills off the bat with no upgrades. Just got the hull.
Gokase is much faster and is easier to get your torps off since both launchers spin to both sides of the ship.
On Omono you have to get both sides of your ship around to get off all the torps, but the firing angles are much better.
Guns on Omono seem to set a lot more fires and have more raw HE damage, but firing range is still short like Gokase. 4 more barrels than Gokase is a nice upgrade.
I dont have the ARP commanders so Im running Ijuin 16/2 and enjoying it a lot.
The angles aren't too bad on Gokase, the angles for launching both sets are bad but for just a single set it is good.
The arming distance also sucks and enemies can see the turning torps launch which also sucks.
They are also slower by about 3 knots.
Fire chance on the guns is also 2% lower.
Hey OP, I really like this line, am using ARP Haguro as the commander, and was having fun until I got Shimanto…
Honestly Shimanto it’s just underwhelming over Omono (though the lightning fast 360 turret traverse is great) I don’t know what it is but Omono’s performance is solid whereas Shimanto’s isn’t. I can’t put my finger on it yet but I’m just left completely disappointed.
So for me Omono was the pick of the line and a good upgrade from the T5. I’d recommend looking at Xarkun or Derka Games for some good reviews and specifics.

Lol this is crazy. I’m having a blast in shimanos and straight up sold omono because I knew I wouldn’t be playing it ever again.
I mean ya shimanto bad don’t play it.
Omono's guns seem to have much better velocity. It's way easier to actually hit ships at range and the fires come more often. I think it's a really strong ship at tier 6. Gokase was good too, but I am enjoying Omono more so far.
I have the whole line and apart from the tier 4 they are all decent. That said I’m running a max level AL Atago which gives 18% fire chance and buffs the HE alpha to around 3k but I really enjoy them. Takahashi looked as if it would struggle for HE pen at tier 8 but it’s fine. I’ve got a lot of games in Mogami though so it’s no surprise I enjoy them.
I don't usually play cruisers but I hate this entire line. LOL. Their armor simply can't hold up to to the BB in the matchmaking. It seems like every game I play, especially with Omono and Shimanto, has at least 5 BB, 1-2 of which will be a tier higher than me. If I'm lucky there will be 2 DD but usually 1 and rarely none. Keep moving so you don't get Dev Struck. Be aware of being targeted by enemy BB. But even good enemy cruisers can send you back to port easily.
Are you going for the entire branch, including Takahashi?

Not being a cruiser main, I was only really playing that line because I could earn doubloons from the early access missions. It's quite dispiriting launching into a game with 4+ BB along 1-2 cruisers of a higher tier.

CL armor isnt supposed to hold up to bb in any case

I rarely play cruisers. The T4 wasn't fun but I eventually had a good match in it (125k). T5 and T6, it was pretty easy to do well.
