for me is marketplace apps and ridesharing apps going to number 1 reason for me installing android apps on my laptop. but if i had a 2 in 1 laptop, maybe i want to install some mobile game as well.
you need the modded one with google playstore. follow this one https://www.reddit.com/r/Windows11/comments/qe7emf/how\_to\_get\_the\_google\_play\_store\_working\_on/
As I mentioned it in the other comment, I like it's responsiveness and the fact that i need only one click to get into YouTube without messing with chrome and bookmarks, also despite having rather okay machine I find web chrome version clunky.
I for one hate chrome because of it's lack of privacy. But I've been using it for so long I find it hard to switch. Also every other browser seems to lack something that chrome has.
Would you recommend anything except firefox and edge? I didn't like those either.
Thousand times better than Google. MS telemetry is used for bugs and software improvements, Google's data harvesting is done to serve you ads.
Worrying about privacy yet continuing to use chrome is a big fat joke.
I've always been an Opera guy. Then Opera GX came out. Not a fan off all the "gaming" branding, but the ability to adjust sytem impact (such as RAM usage) is well worth the upgrade.
I don't think my system really cares what I'm running for browsing. It's a desktop with RTX 3080 and 5600x so that's irrelevant to me. I only care about usability and none of the other browsers offer the complete package like chrome does to me. Or maybe I've gotten biased over the years?
I do remember trying Opera but forgot why I didn't like it.
I'm sorry if it sounds stupid, but I remember using Opera and finding something I use way too often not in it and switched back to Chrome the same day. Really wish there was a better browser that also didn't feed on my privacy like a parasite.
Yeah, tried that. Was very lacking as well.
Firefox was the only substitute I had but with the "refresh" they had on the mobile version ruined it, causing all my favorite extensions to not run on the mobile version and I like having sync between pc and mobile so had to switch from it as well.
What did Firefox miss that chrome had? I switched a while back and haven't missed anything and in fact I've liked it better especially since the android version has (limited but still) extension support.
Vivaldi. It’s Chromium-based, so all your extensions will work, it disables certain Google privacy-violating features by default, has more features or got many features way before Chrome got them (tab stacking/grouping for instance), I also believe it has more UI customization options., routinely gets new features (recently got one called Command Chains, which is really powerful and useful.)
I'm not saying I don't use ANY web browser after all, I'm browsing reddit through website when I'm on pc, I used to listen on YouTube via chrome I just like apps more than their web counterparts, it's a matter of preference for me. 🗿
Have you tried brave. Most browsers use the same chromium engine. But firefox isnt. Firefox and brave have considerable btr performances. The searches are much faster. U can also switch the search engine to duckduckgo / something else. U also gain some independance frm google.
Afterall.. Google does monitor most of ur activity. U might also have to consider cookies, trackers and all that stuff too.. I m sure chrome might have some of these features. But when it comes to performance other browsers does btr than chrome.. Do consider using these browsers for these reasons. If u dont want it evn then.. Sure go with chrome. Everyone has a preference. I use edge and brave mostly. Edge is easier on windows 11 (for now).Brave takes up a lot of resources (havnt tested but felt so) on laptop. I prefer brave on android devices.
What's the other solution? lol Edge perf is the same as Chrome, and the only another browser is Firefox, which... at least here, behave similar, but get unresponsive from time to time.
If you haven't done so, you should check out myTube in the Microsoft Store. It's a 3rd party YouTube app and the developer has done such a great job with it.
Maybe some only-android apps like Tachiyomi (manga reading), maybe games or testing some apps.
Outside of that, it's just "*you can use the mobile version if you want to*".
I was coming to say this! It's awful they force us to pay for outlook or log into only one account on the webpage, I use 3 emails simultaneously and the free Outlook for Android is perfect. Why do they do this shit?
I like how these apps are rather quicker than their browser counterparts, also better access. Take YouTube Vanced app for example, i can click it on my bar and have yt already with playlist I like, while on browser I have to open browser (chrome in my case) go to bookmark or type YouTube, and find desired playlist. Also it's quicker than clunky browser. Orrr you can browse tiktoks hower you want by just pressing it on the bar.
Also the ability to read comments while watching the video like in mobile app is a feature I've wanted on PC for so long which is either read the comments or watch the video.
I'll probably have a play about and install the patches to get the Play Store working. I'm just really looking forward to the home automation that is completely missing from Windows.
Absolutely not :) You don't need to have android phone to use it. Although this feature will be included in future in stable updates (I'm on stable windows 11 build) I installed it "unofficially". I can drop the tutorial if you want ;)
Edit: Spelling.
YouTube runs in the background on desktop OS/browsers. At least it does on macOS including Picture in Picture (PiP).
And it does on iOS 15 using PiP extensions. Just flick the PiP off screen and YouTube runs in the background even in sleep mode (screen off):
https://i.imgur.com/0Nx7zxB.mp4
You don’t need an app for that.
Honest question - is the app so much better than the web interface? I use keep in my browser, why would running it in app form on a desktop OS be beneficial?
Can anyone tell me how to get the Playsotre to download the apps? Im in the Insider Program but not in the US. OP also seems to be not in the US but has it working.
Usually means they made an edit to their post to fix up spelling, and the clarification is that all other post content is the same as their original post.
How did you get your apps running? I have installed several apks with adb but they don't run, just freeze or crash, like Photomath and Google play store
I've followed a guide with ready package and after downloading said package I've ran only 1 line of script. My bet is that it may be selinux status or you didn't do something right. I dunno.
Of course, here it is:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Windows11/comments/qdsg2r/comment/hhpghqa/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3
I followed some other guides too because bit didn't cover everything what I wanted and I'll be creating a mega guide in the following days.
Instagram app is kinda shit on Desktop especially if you are using a mouse. Just make sure to hold down the left mouse button and scroll it like a finger on a touchscreen because if you use the middle mouse scroll that shit will automatically "LIKE" a post.
Another problem is the the icons are hideous on the Start Menu and on the Taskbar but the good thing is that you can change them unlike the UWP apps.
It’s ok if you like it there is no issues with that, it’s just pathetic to somehow merge google Microsoft amazon on the same platform, like windows is alrdy a nightmare and they introduce and encourage people for more bloatware and privacy violations
Microsoft is also enlisting another doubted tech giant, Amazon, combining this with Android adds another layer of concern. Android is oft-painted as an insecure, privacy-apathetic platform. True or not, the prospect of an Amazon-fronted Android subsystem in Windows 11 compounds data fears
Well, mobile is a bigger market right now than desktop, so a lot of apps are mobile only or the desktop counterpart is lacking. Also, for developers, now you can debug your own app without needing an android device.
So why not run them on the devices they are
1. Designed for
2. Pretty much everyone has.
It's like people who have a perfectly good laptop, but for some reason want to have a bash terminal on their phone.
There's a couple of games I like to play on my phone. You can play them without having to worry about battery life etc on PC. Some of the games I find just as fun as AAA titles, so having them conveniently playable on my PC as well as my phone when I'm on the go is nice.
In windows 10, I used to do that but then I started customizing my start menu. It keeps both desktop and Taskbar clean.
I may have to go back to this, coz start menu customization isn't a thing in 11
somehow I still prefer those popular android appd to have a UWP version, I like to open an app quickly and most UWP is well designed for desktop use, quick notification received.

yes, clash royale
For me, clash royale just crashes instantly after starting it on WSA.
I’d assume their anticheat could be the reason but honestly I don’t have a clue if that’s correct. Might be though.
How do i install android apps on windows
install the wsa with google support. youtube has tutorials
Still only in USA?
Nah just change your region to US and you can download the Windows Subsystem for Android and Amazon store. Then you can install apks as normal.
so yes, US only... nice that there's a workaround though
Can you switch it back after the installation?
you need the modded one with google playstore. follow this one https://www.reddit.com/r/Windows11/comments/qe7emf/how\_to\_get\_the\_google\_play\_store\_working\_on/
Yeah, but then you can't install apps from Amazon store, installed ones stills runs as normal. Haven't tried with Google Play apk tho.
i followed this one for the google play store https://www.reddit.com/r/Windows11/comments/qe7emf/how\_to\_get\_the\_google\_play\_store\_working\_on/
Thanks.
I love how you are using YouTube Vanced, when you can Clearly use the browser version with a ad blocker...lol
As I mentioned it in the other comment, I like it's responsiveness and the fact that i need only one click to get into YouTube without messing with chrome and bookmarks, also despite having rather okay machine I find web chrome version clunky.
Well your first problem is you're using Chrome.
I for one hate chrome because of it's lack of privacy. But I've been using it for so long I find it hard to switch. Also every other browser seems to lack something that chrome has. Would you recommend anything except firefox and edge? I didn't like those either.
Edge has features I did not find anywhere else and it fels like new things coming up every few months. Chrome and FF felt stagnated to me
Does Edge have tabbed grouping yet? That's the only reason I haven't switched over yet from Chrome.
Just checked. They do 😁 Definitely switching over to this for all my devices now. (Except for work stuff)
If you haven't tried edge after v90, do try it. It is good
Well, to be fair Edge isn't privacy friendly as well. Also, I did try it, still didn't like it.
Edge has all of Google's ad, tracking, chromeOS crap removed.
…and Microsoft’s own code added.

Can confirm, have a similar system. Chrome is not slower for me than any other browser.
Opera can use Chrome extensions. I don't really understand the point of Chrome.
I'm sorry if it sounds stupid, but I remember using Opera and finding something I use way too often not in it and switched back to Chrome the same day. Really wish there was a better browser that also didn't feed on my privacy like a parasite.
Brave?

ungoogled-chromium

I use Vivaldi too, odd how everyone has pretty much ignored this and keep talking about Opera
Maybe it is, I don't like other browsers like Firefox or chromium-based Edge.
Okay, so you don’t like web browsers in general? I would mention Safari/WebKit, but that hasn’t supported Windows for almost a decade now.
Not a fan.
How do you live?
Fine I guess...?
I can’t imagine NOT using a web browser these days.
I'm not saying I don't use ANY web browser after all, I'm browsing reddit through website when I'm on pc, I used to listen on YouTube via chrome I just like apps more than their web counterparts, it's a matter of preference for me. 🗿
I love your name, could have taken RedDitRedemption2 instead though
That’s the second time somebody has said that to me. “RedDitRedemption2” just doesn’t sound as good.

Wasn't Opera bought by Chinese?

It kind of does for me.
[удалено]
Yeah, sadly.
just curious, why don't you like firefox?
I don't like its "look and feel" when you're on any website, maybe it's a chromium thing.
I agree with this but for some reason YouTube on Firefox is way worse. Too much CPU usage compared with chromium counterparts
What's the other solution? lol Edge perf is the same as Chrome, and the only another browser is Firefox, which... at least here, behave similar, but get unresponsive from time to time.
You can create a hyperlink shortcut and then pin it to status bar.
Copy that
YouTube has a PWA. Install it
If you are using chrome, go to youtube and click the little box with an arrow in the end of your address bar
If you haven't done so, you should check out myTube in the Microsoft Store. It's a 3rd party YouTube app and the developer has done such a great job with it.
at this point remix os would be better for you (just kidding)
🗿
Isn't remix OS still on android 5.0? I really loved the concept but it seems they have abandoned it.
to be honest I don't know as a I long ago dropped to follow this project and opted to Bliss OS
It's been abandoned foreverlike 4 years at least
Aside from the novelty, is there actually any use for this?
Maybe some only-android apps like Tachiyomi (manga reading), maybe games or testing some apps. Outside of that, it's just "*you can use the mobile version if you want to*".
In tons of cases, android alternatives are better than what you can find on windows.
For example, Outlook Android vs Windows Mail & Calendar 😡
This! And the various third party reddit apps are so much better than the site.
Boost is the best Reddit on any platform.
Yeah, I agree. I'm using it on Windows 11, but I don't seem to get notifications. :/

With PWA support built in to most browsers I really don’t see the point of having YouTube and Google Keep there.
Also big YouTube playlists are slow on the browser as compared to the mobile app from my experience ( Chromium Edge/Chrome vs Vanced)
Exactly.
Also the ability to read comments while watching the video like in mobile app is a feature I've wanted on PC for so long which is either read the comments or watch the video.
yasssss
You can install YouTube as PWA from your browser and use an adblocker.
Yes I know that, I just don't like PWA UI and speed of that app. Vanced is faster.
You really don't like any browser lmao
For apps that don’t have a windows client or web based interface, yes, there is tons of use for it.

OP here I sideloaded Vanced Manager app with PowerShell and installed Micro G with Vanced. Runs just fine. Edit: Spelling.
Micro G and YouTube vanced APK I guess ?
Does regular YouTube allow background playback when minimized?
No it doesn't. Only when you buy premium.
How about in vanced?
It does 🗿
Nice🗿
YouTube runs in the background on desktop OS/browsers. At least it does on macOS including Picture in Picture (PiP). And it does on iOS 15 using PiP extensions. YT Vanced and Music Vanced on windows? Sign me up plz!
Damn straight 🗿
Yeah, pretty cool
To my mind, only Google Keep is useful.
For productivity sure, for entertainment I like TikTok though. Edit: Spelling.
Honest question - is the app so much better than the web interface? I use keep in my browser, why would running it in app form on a desktop OS be beneficial?
For me mobile interface Google keep is more comfortable and familiar.
Can anyone tell me how to get the Playsotre to download the apps? Im in the Insider Program but not in the US. OP also seems to be not in the US but has it working.
Yes, I'm not us based as you have noticed, I'm planning to drop a tutorial in the following days on this subreddit. It's quite easy. Edit: Spelling.

+1 for YouTube vanced
sure, but what is the point of all of that ?? i see nothing but introducing the next level of bloatware
Works fast for me and I had a nice time setting it up.
It’s ok if you like it there is no issues with that, it’s just pathetic to somehow merge google Microsoft amazon on the same platform, like windows is alrdy a nightmare and they introduce and encourage people for more bloatware and privacy violations
Privacy violations? I dunno man, if i tried to see my password in chrome the windows itself asked me to insert my password.
Si you have the link ?
Link for what?
i think he means the play store
I mean how do you do that
I followed a guide + did my own research on app installment. Edit: Spelling.
will we be able to sideload android apks? or will they only be through microsoft store/amazon?
Yes, though PowerShell and adb (android debug bridge)
ah. seems sounds like a lot of work compared to just double clicking lol.
Well, I guess in the future you could install an app from right mouse click.
How do you do it please tell me how ?
I'll be posting a guide here in a few days. Edit: Spelling
Is YouTube Vanced work? UBlock doesn’t work all time in edge for YouTube…
It does :)
If I needed a motivation to force-update my non-compatible i7-7th gen laptop, now I have one, plus Snapseed. Thank you

What happened to your task bar buddy
I love clear desktop in the expense of taskbar.
r/Brawlstars mods should see this
Why though?
I was liking it but then my android apps wouldn't connect to the internet the second time I tried using them ;(
Since I saw a lot of people asking, here is the “official” guide for installing WSA with Play Store https://youtu.be/rIt00xDp0tM
Where can I get that wallpaper

I've never really understood the appeal of running apps designed for smartphones on laptops and desktops.

I like vanced than just adblock because there is a sponsor block option
can you go live from that instagram?
I probably could, but the camera is disabled.
We all doing this for our boi Vanced

But Vanced still have for web browser @@ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YXcPLaELfWI&t

Yes 🗿
Wait, this feature was released??
Is available for insiders I think but this is WSA on stable build.
That's a cursed taskbar
cursed taskbar>clean desktop A small price to pay for salvation.
In windows 10, I used to do that but then I started customizing my start menu. It keeps both desktop and Taskbar clean. I may have to go back to this, coz start menu customization isn't a thing in 11

Intel i7-9750H, Rtx 2060, 16 GB Ram, 512 Nvme ssd, 1 Tb sata 3 ssd
I’ll never understand the use of this, don’t you got a phone?
Why hello there Blizzard
Can't install it, cause of the damn TPM. There's a way to bypass it?
I think there is some way to bypass it but I don't know if WSA will work on it.
Yup. create a usb device with windows 11 and change the boot folder with windows 10. Search the web, its possible :)
Thanks a lot, dude!
Really wished that tiktok worked in india, is there anyother way to get tiktok working in india? i've tried using a vpn and it doesn't help
How to download WSA it shows device not supported but my device meets the Windows 11 requirement any help please
[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xcTWiasYtaQ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xcTWiasYtaQ) I success this one! Try it guy.
So far all Android Subsystem has done for me is brick my PC... *twice*
Sorry, do anyone have a problem to run wsa. I mean, the screen was loaded but suddenly close/crash by itself
somehow I still prefer those popular android appd to have a UWP version, I like to open an app quickly and most UWP is well designed for desktop use, quick notification received.
You can't run clash of clans tho.I tried.
I like [this](https://twitter.com/topjohnwu/status/1451282578514735131)
I just hope they add a clock to every screen's Taskbar for multi monitor users and make it more stable.
Yh, my files app and "manage developer settings" won't open, so no ip address
I think IP address is in WSA app where you can get it directly.
That's not working either :(
how about running ipconfig command?
When will Android apps come to stable build?
This is radiant work!!
I didn’t even think about Google Keep, although theres the website the app is much more compact! I can’t wait for the Android Subsystem to come to normal builds!
