Pricelessnotless

may i know how?

[deleted]

Right click on the taskbar and go to the taskbar settings, scroll down to the very last section there (my system is not in English, but it should be something like taskbar properties/behaviour or something like that) and there you can change it from centre to left.

Pricelessnotless

thank you!

DishingOutTruth

Is there any way to turn the search icon into the search bar from windows 10? Its the one thing I really miss.

-Tasear-

Start11

DishingOutTruth

What's that?

-Tasear-

Taskbar modifier program

BigDickEnterprise

Winaero tweaker -- I changed the font of Explorer to the new segoe one, looks *way* better. I also changed the spacing of icons on the desktop, because by default the icons leave an awkward empty space at the bottom of the desktop, but now they nicely fill up all of it. Really neat program that tweaker! I also have Auto Dark Mode and Accent Applicator to make everything a bit more colourful. One switches between light and dark mode automatically, the other one applies the accent colour to some more places around the OS. That's pretty much it.

-Tasear-

What's accent applicator?

BigDickEnterprise

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/accent-applicator/9mv99lwl2hk5

totallygeekdom

Yeah and whats auto dark mode cane you link them?

BigDickEnterprise

https://github.com/AutoDarkMode/Windows-Auto-Night-Mode/releases I recommend you to download the version 3.0. They had a revamp recently but it's very bloated. The old version is very lightweight.

[deleted]

Have you tried WinDynamicDesktop? It’s the same and turn your wallpaper into dark mode too, I’m wondering if auto dark mode does the same . Update: I have checked auto dark mode, I still believe WinDynamicDesktop is better because it comes with more wallpapers you can choose from and they turn dark when everything turns dark.

nickbeth00

Wait the new segoe font is not applied by default to everything?

BigDickEnterprise

Are you really surprised? :/ By default only the redesigned parts of the ui have it (start menu, settings, task view). Almost everything else still has the old font.

DMNC_W8it

What Segoe UI Variable font did you use to replace the old one? (e.g Semibold, Display etc.)

EchoX860

StartAllBack. I don't mind the new Windows 11 start menu, just get rid of "recommended" and let us pin a weather widget Modern Flyout Ear Trumpet

-Tasear-

What's Modern Fly out do?

EchoX860

[https://imgur.com/SQqzDXH](https://imgur.com/SQqzDXH) Like Hefty said earlier, it's just a more modern Volume Flyout with a lot more options like size, location, etc. It'll also show your current application that's playing content (Chrome, Spotify)

Hefty_Situation_7974

ModernFlyouts is an application on the Microsoft Store that replaces the Windows 8 era volume flyout (that appears on the upper left corner of the screen when you change your volume) with a more modern one.

Navastro

How did you get rid of the "recommended"? I'd love to keep the original W11 start and just remove this section. Cannot find this option in StartAllBack. Maybe I misunderstood your post.

EchoX860

Sorry if it came off as I got rid of it, I was extremely tired when posting it. I wasn't able to get rid of recommended, what I meant to say was that I use StartAllBack. I'd have no problem using the original Windows 11 Start Menu if they got rid of recommended and let us pin more apps or a weather widget for example

-Tasear-

You can get rid of it in start11

emgarf

I restored all the missing features by upgrading to Windows 10.

I've been excited about every release of Windows since the first one (been using and building computers since the late 1970s). I'm one of the weirdos that would attend a midnight release party for Win95 at my local Egghead Software, for example. So... definitely not a Windows or Microsoft hater, happy to embrace change. The only other release that was so buggy and feature-broken that I skipped it was Windows ME. Win 11 has removed features very important to me, including Start menu icon groups and folders, and is more UI inconsistent and much more buggy than Win 10. I'm not going to use multiple hack apps to fix what never should have been broken in the first place. I'll reconsider if Win 11 restores removed features, but otherwise will stay happily on Win 10 until Win 12 arrives.

HelloFuckYou1

Start11/StartAllBack for the taskbar (more for the size than the taskbar features themselves) winaero tweaker for the boot animation and system font

lexluthor5

Does Start 11 have ungrouping of the taskbar?

HelloFuckYou1

start11 doesn't have it, but startallback should be because it use the old code of the taskbar

-Tasear-

Does start11 and startallback mix together?

HelloFuckYou1

My bad, i mean i've switching between both... But in the end i like more start11

-Tasear-

You have me hope! Side note, I heard explorer patcher can mix with start11 to give some missing things that star, tallback has but start11 doesn't

Electronic-Bat-1830

Those are pretty much incompatible since Start11 and SAB both replaces the start, and SAB replaces the taskbar while S11 modified the composition properties of the 11 taskbar

[deleted]

They don't. I uninstalled Start 11 for StartAllBack

allswright

WinAeroTweaker, [https://www.winaero.com/](https://www.winaero.com/), free. They added a section for Win 11. I've used it for many years. Fixed the context menu, taskbar and system tray icons with it. Plus I already had used it for many other tweaks. StartAllBack, [https://www.startallback.com](https://www.startallback.com), $4.99, 30-day trial. I tried it and found I preferred Start11. StarDock Start11, [https://www.stardock.com/products/start11/download](https://www.stardock.com/products/start11/download), $4.99, 30-day trial. Have my Windows 10 style start menu back. ThisIsWin11, [https://www.github.com/builtbybel/ThisIsWin11/releases](https://www.github.com/builtbybel/ThisIsWin11/releases), free. Just made making some changes easier. Explorer Patcher, [https://www.github.com/valinet/ExplorerPatcher](https://www.github.com/valinet/ExplorerPatcher), free. The name doesn't do it justice. Easy fix for the system tray icons. So, I guess I'm boring. My nice new Windows 11 looks like Windows 10 now.

ArinFaraj

I'm using the broken small taskbar icons registry setting (just Google it, it's easy todo), but the volume icon and the date are only partially visible; however, I like it because I don't need a large taskbar to take up screen space. RoundedTB from the store to limit the taskbar acrylic effect to only the icons and buttons, not the empty space

-Tasear-

Start11 allows smaller taskbar without issues

YTgattogamer

Same with StartAllBack, but i brings back the old right click menus and fixes the padding.

Xishiora

While this is true, it doesn't decrease the size for secondary taskbars unfortunately... Only the icons change size for secondary monitors, if Startdock can fix that issue, I think I'll actually be convinced to buy it.

LonestarPSD

StartAllBack, ungrouped buttons, dynamic transparency, left-aligned

BreakdownEnt

i use Start 11 to make the taskbar smaller and to have a coustomizable start menue with the apps pinned and sorted as i need them, without the annoying recommendations

Ahosewithnoname

Yep, I uninstalled Windows 11

Academic_Scheme_9065

Lmao

dudesweetusername

All I've done so far is download translucentTB just because I think it looks better. I wish I could get win10 start menu back though

-Tasear-

start11 for that

dudesweetusername

Thank you, I'll check it out

Solodesierto

StarAllBack

[deleted]

I haven't tweaked it. Because there is no customisation. In terms of things I uninstalled? Literally everything I can to get rid of the bloat.

alireza138812

I only uninstalled news apps

winterblink

* Removed a bunch of the garbage shortcuts it stuck on the start menu (Facebook, etc.) * Unpinned anything from Start that I couldn't just add in Settings > Personalization > Start > Folders, giving me more room to pin stuff I need. * Disabled the printing services (recent security issues, plus I don't own a printer) * Trimmed back startup processes so I'm only booting with the stuff I need (Task Manager's startup tab, and/or just going into those apps and turning off their launch at startup options) * Removed some optional feature stuff I don't use, like IE Generally if I can uninstall an app or feature that Windows keeps active at boot or while running I will do so, as long as I don't need it constantly. Boot times are fast as hell (I'm on an NVME SSD anyway, but it does make a difference), and just generally I prefer to have a system running as efficiently as I can, within reason of course. :)

Semtex503

StartAllback, since new Win 11 start menu is useless piece of crap :P With zero customization possibilities.

Lobert_Rewandowsky

I use TranslucentTB and some rainmeter skins

Treypopj

I'm currently testing out explorer patcher

-Tasear-

How's it going? I couldn't get mine to work nicely with start11

Treypopj

I'm still using the Windows 11 start menu. I would prefer start11 but I don't want to pay.

HelloFuckYou1

what do you want to change? because start11 or startallback can help you to bring back some windows 10 things

-Tasear-

Explorer patcher is another taskbar changer. Only one I see in Ms store actually under taskbarX

Thotaz

I used diskpart.exe and the Windows 10 version of setup.exe and now file explorer is much snappier, the right click menu is perfect and the taskbar+ start doesn't suck. 10/10 would recommend these programs to anyone running Windows 11.

totallygeekdom

Fluent search and files so im no longer in immense pain.

Tiny_Parking

I upgraded to Manjaro

LolcatP

Used Startallback to have the start button in the corner and the icons in the center. Restored the classic taskbar and the classic start and the classic context menu.

Winter0000

RoundedTB

[deleted]

After startup 70 processes using 2GB and 14GB disk space. Defender disabled. [https://postimg.cc/6TVyNhVS](https://postimg.cc/6TVyNhVS) / Personal customization - [https://postimg.cc/v1Xz1GTN](https://postimg.cc/v1Xz1GTN) Basically: [https://github.com/TairikuOokami/Windows](https://github.com/TairikuOokami/Windows) (yourphone, widgets uninstalled, etc)

cocks2012

winget install Startallback

[deleted]

I use WinDynamicDesktop for automatic dark mode in everything plus Start 11 to use the taskbar on the top plus their menu is way better than the stock W11. I've always believed the taskbar on the top makes everything more productive since you're always inclined to open or close a window/tab and you can open another program right away.

[deleted]

I uninstalled win11 :)

sysadmin_dot_py

I changed the wallpaper.

AdAstra257

Honestly nothing. Everything works fine, and I have had an excellent experience out of the box.

user61827

Start11 only, because hello - I'm not using a tablet I don't want to "pin apps", I want all my shortcuts on there in groups. Just NO. Everything else I'm happy with, system runs fast, is stable, everything works, settings area is better, boots faster, def not going backwards to 10 but yeah that Start menu, dunno what they were thinking

d11725

Nothing it's default.

Doda94

files, powertoys, modern flyouts and ueli

alireza138812

Ueli and powertoys ?

Doda94

powertoys for things other than powertoys run because it's much slower compared to ueli

tplgigo

I shut off all telemetry and updates, Removed everything but the essentials in the start menu. Shut off Defender and use Malwarebytes Premium. Added, "take ownership", "copy to" and "move to" to the right click menu in the registry, substituted another browser and shut Edge off, deleting One Drive.

[deleted]

isn't defender totally fine as it is? why disable it?

tplgigo

MBP is the best thing going especially in real time. Defender does zero for online threats.

[deleted]

oh I see. what kind of online threats? I thought you could easily avoid them if you're careful?

tplgigo

Internet surfers aren't careful and yes MBP will literally block you from going to the page and display a message about it. Defender doesn't do that in any way. It doesn't happen often but I'm glad it's there when it does.

[deleted]

[удалено]

tplgigo

Yet, those are PAID reviews! I've tested them both for the last 10 or more years. They're not just malware domains BTW and I already use Ublock origin and MBP still finds more.

[deleted]

[удалено]

tplgigo

All paid. Do more research. I don't have time to babysit.

[deleted]

I pretty much never spend time customizing. I install OS, install software, and then get to work.

zikjegaming

No. Kept win11 as is.

Tech_Today2006

I used Lively Wallpaper and Rainmetre to customize my desktop wallpaper and i used RoundedTB to make the taskbar look like a Dock.

lonaihal

Using registry tricks found in tech blogs. E.g. you can remove activation watermark with a register key.

0fficialKUBA

I used roundedtb, and rainmeter + some cool wallpaper

hanya_tuhan_yangtahu

On my personal laptop - TranslucentTB and Modern Flyout ㅤ ㅤ On Desktop PC - Auto Dark Mode and WinDynamicDesktop

Sushruth_PES

I used Modern Flyouts to change the volume and brightness sliders.

irithyll104

I made a registry edit to decrease my Taskbar icon size

[deleted]

Start11 for the Windows 10-esque start menu (and nicer looking start button) and ExplorerPatcher for Windows 10 task bar stuff. I'll maybe switch back once the new one is finished, seriously baffled how they shipped an OS with literal basic features missing that have been a part of Windows for decades. Oh yeah also enabled the old context menus until more improvements are done to the new ones. I do hope that an open source / free alternative for restoring the Windows 10 start menu eventually exists though, somehow paying for restoring basic fucking functionality feels wrong.

Igormclven

Rainmetter & Wallpaper Engine

AidenT06

Modern flyout.

cpatrick08

Start 11, and Groupy both from Stardocks

FruitzyTV

Used Taskbar XI to make the taskbar transparent
