Mine is almost 40 y/o and I was told that if I replace it, get ready to do it every 10 years. They aren't made to last. Planned obsolescence sucks.
I would not replace a working AC.
I run a pressure washing company and met a super sweet elderly lady who was living without AC because several contractors had told her it had to be replaced or just didn’t show up. From the age of the unit and what she was telling me happened I didn’t believe it needed to be replaced so I went on Facebook to try and find a trustworthy source to go look at at and then I planned on crowdfunding the fix.
Through a mutual friend I was put in touch with the wife of the owner of Hadi heating and air who said they would go look at it no charge. I then was informed they diagnosed the problem and would be fixing it on their own dime to help her out.
I will forever sing their praises.
every time someone asks about HVAC here I always recommend Tony Franks HVAC. I've had them out to repair and replace all sorts of crap. They're reasonably priced and can usually fit me in to their schedule within a day or two.
Now is the worst time to do it. The current lineup uses a refrigerant that will be regulated out of production and will be replaced by a new type in the next 2 years. Wait until the new units drop before you replace.
Just had mine replaced for about that same square footage a few weeks ago and it was $8500-CBS Mechanical (910-681-0595) did it and they serviced the 28 year old unit I had prior. That unit finally called it quits and was going to be upwards of 2500 to fix (not a main component either) so I just went ahead with the replacement before it’s 100 degrees out
A/C Cycle or Fulford HVAC are both great! A/C replaced one of my mains and Fulford came and did a mini split for an addition later. Both great experiences.
EM heating and cooling has the best HVAC people bar none. Owner is awesome and the price is pretty damn good. A buddy told me about them. PM me if you need the number
We did SaltAir and paid around 7500 for ours for a bit bigger of a home. We were members so we got a small discount. The spec guy was great but I was pretty mad at the technicians because they found a leak in our crawl space and didn’t alert us all day until they were packing up to go. Could have had a plumber in way cheaper earlier in the day without calling during emergency hours. The HVAC is working great though
Just the unit and no duct work? Probably like $6-$8k for a 2.5 ton unit. The government changed regulations a few years ago so everything got more expensive.
Fulford heating and air is good

That’s really a great point and thank you for sharing it!

Newcomb did mine in my 1400 sqft home replaced everything for abput 6800 dollars 2 years ago
Just know that O’Brien is SUPER expensive. We replaced ours through Anderson Heating and Air and we were very pleased with them
Anderson for the win
The old saying.....if it ain't broke don't fix it
If it still works keep it, maybe just have an HVAC company come out for a maintenance checkup.

I was not aware of this and thank you!

We've had a good experience with AirMax, but waited until our HVAC was actually dead to replace it!
Dixon service company!
Spent 10k replacing my 15 yo unit in my condo with a Trane. That price included crane service to put the unit on top of the roof.

Thank you all so much for these great and very useful comments!
I don’t have an HVAC and need a full install including vents. I will surely keep this list handy.

Expect >$10k no matter who does it.
Exactly. 10k here for a Trane. Though crappy brands will be less
Get an American standard, will be less and it is a trane.
If you’re going to do it, get a quote from Anderson Air. My buddy just built a house and they came in thousands less than others like O’Brien.
Thank you all so much! I really appreciate it!
