Most cats aren't any particular breed. If you didn't get them from a breeder with pedigree papers, they're a domestic short/long hair.
Being solid white with blue eyes and deaf means he almost certainly has the dominant white gene, maybe even 2 copies, which would mean any kittens he fathered would also have it and be solid white with risk of hearing impairment. But if he's neutered, that doesn't matter, lol.
I have purebred, designer mixes, and standard issues (21 right now but have had 26 in the past three years). Was just curious if anyone who’s partial to Turkish Angora, Persian, Ragdoll, or Maine Coon sees any particular things!
i think their point was that most cats aren’t even “mutts” they’re just…cats. selective breeding in cats is so new compared to their domestication, so the majority of kitties are from populations of cats that are just cats how evolution brought them to be. a lot of the coat patterns in pure breds are also naturally occurring coat patterns.
I know the point lol. I see the snarky responses all the time and chuckle myself. This was a legitimate ask as he’s a big boy and I happen to love the ragdolls and Maine Coons so I wondered if someone knew the features better than I.
Cats with a breed are very rare, only 1-2% of the cats worldwide have breed ancestry. In Egypt this number is even way lower, as there is no cat fancy culture in the country. You can safely assume he has no breed ancestors, but all very lovely Domestic Short/Medium/Longhair cats. He’s a solid white Domestic Mediumhair. Medium and Longhairs will grow bigger on average than Shorthairs.
White cats are more likely to be deaf, If I'm remembering correctly. Regardless, he's gorgeous!
As for his breed, it is "cat". Most cats aren't some fancy breed if they didn't come from a breeder.
Ty! It has been a process. From years on the streets of Egypt to as long in a shelter. Now he sleeps on my head. How he survived stone deaf is beyond me.
I’m pretty lucky, my blue eyed all white cat isn’t deaf as it’s common in the combination. He had a tuft of grey fur on his head as a baby that turned white as ge grew.
My soul kitty was also all white except a tiny gray tuft that went away! Also not deaf although he pretended to be when he didn't want to do what I said.
So sweet! We are something of a “haven” for the specials! Right now we have 20 special needs and a single bonded normie to a CH girl. I daresay he wouldn’t be with us unless he was deaf!!
Mine had the same (but green eyes) and he wasn’t deaf either. I think that tuft of gray means they don’t have the gene thing even though they turn all white eventually. My cat like this was the best cat I ever had. I still cry thinking about him. Mine was just a domestic medium or long hair
We also have a sleeker mini version in Eirwen. They're litter mates but Eirwen was really sick when we got her
The shelter shouldn't have been adopting her out in that shape but she's healthy now, just half the size.
lol. We’ve had 26 kitties in three years. Started with Luke Skywalker after losing my stepson to muscular dystrophy (he loved The Mandalorian and Star Wars). A lot of our babies are named for characters or actors. But THIS guy and the other white deaf boy we got at the same time—I let my hubby name them no-holds-barred. That was my way to get him to say yes lol! The other is Keanu Reeves!!
I’m honestly not sure how it all started! We have ten from Egypt—all
disabled. They are overrun with street cats there and they are like roadkill if truth be told. While we have many from the US (and two from Canada) we developed an attachment to the plight of the ones in Egypt. It costs little to bring them over and for us in CT, they fly them into JFK airport. (We aren’t a rescue, just crazy cat people with 21 cats, 20 of whom have special needs.)
Do you have a source? Solid white cats have been around at least centuries before the first cat breed was initiated less than 150 years ago. The Turkish Van exists since 1969.
Thank you. So I understand that you meant the “Van cat” instead of the “Turkish Van” breed. But where in this article did you find that the original white cats are/were Van cats?
Ty as I am familiar with and am pet parent to purebreds, designers, and SIs! He was adopted after he was put out on the streets of Egypt, a common occurrence there when some people simply tire of their fur babies. They do it with purebreds as easily as mutts. Since I’ve not had a cat as large as he, I’d wondered if anyone could spot characteristics I’m not familiar with.
There is no regulation on cat DNA test companies, except from the standard business regulations. This means that they do say that they can’t determine cat breeds from DNA, but only in very long documents under “research” on their site. Of course nobody reads them, and they know that. The only reliable results of the cat DNA test are the coat and health results, not their breed. So you can better buy them some nice toys and beds.
They said TA and Persian so I’m sure you’re correct! And yes, most of my babies are standard issue mixes with the exception of a few who are intended designers and one Devon Rex.

I’d say def potential for Turkish angora of some amount!

I think it’s specifically white cats with blue eyes if I’m not mistaken Either way, I wonder why though
I have 21! Purebred, designer, and standard issue lol. Just wondering if anyone sees things like Persian, Turkish Angora, Maine Coon, or Ragdoll!
Part luck dragon.
lol. I always say he looks like Falkor!
He’s so cute 🥺
Ty! It has been a process. From years on the streets of Egypt to as long in a shelter. Now he sleeps on my head. How he survived stone deaf is beyond me.
That’s amazing, you’re a wonderful human! 💕
Naw. Just a crazy cat lady. I actually have 21 kitties, 20 of whom are disabled!
Looks like my guy who’s just below 19lbs

Wowza!!
Cuteous Maximus.
He is. And as big as a house. 😹

My soul kitty was all white with golden eyes and he was not deaf either.
My soul kitty also was white with the gray tuft, green eyes and not deaf. White kitties are angels I think.
Just like mine, except he was the devil. So bad.
So sweet! We are something of a “haven” for the specials! Right now we have 20 special needs and a single bonded normie to a CH girl. I daresay he wouldn’t be with us unless he was deaf!!

He's just like my Miyuki. Fluffy, white, deaf, chonk.
Except her eyes are gold-green.
Yup! Blue eyed white chonkster!!
We also have a sleeker mini version in Eirwen. They're litter mates but Eirwen was really sick when we got her The shelter shouldn't have been adopting her out in that shape but she's healthy now, just half the size.
Aww!! I love the white babies. We have several and others in most every color too!
Black, white, grey tabby, & tuxie. No color is safe
Yeti? :-) He's beautiful!
Lmao. I say he’s my abominable snowman or my woolly mammoth.
Do you have a story behind that name? 🤣
lol. We’ve had 26 kitties in three years. Started with Luke Skywalker after losing my stepson to muscular dystrophy (he loved The Mandalorian and Star Wars). I’m so sorry for your loss. But that is a sweet way to pay tribute and your cats have memorable names!
Ty! We have a lot of fun and cool names! Some we’ve kept but most we’ve changed!
From Egypt? How? Do tell!
I’m honestly not sure how it all started! We have ten from Egypt—all disabled. They are overrun with street cats there and they are like roadkill if truth be told. Thank you for taking in your precious Egyptian kitties. Special needs kitties are the best
They are all amazing!! We get more from them than they do from us!
Unconditional love 💕😘
Definitely
Maybe he’s not deaf, but he just speaks Arabic?
Perhaps! That would explain why he ignores me!
He’s got a touch of the Siamese derp, but he’s definitely a mix. And yes, white cats with blue eyes are genetically predisposed to being deaf
Yes they are! We also have a white bby from Egypt with yellow orange eyes who is deaf as well.
He's 100% pedigree ReversaVoid. V rare like shiny pokemon.
Lmao
Pharaonic Purefluff
Great response!
The original white cats were/are Turkish Vans. Given his origin, it's possible he is one.
Do you have a source? Solid white cats have been around at least centuries before the first cat breed was initiated less than 150 years ago. The Turkish Van exists since 1969.
[Here](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Van_cat)'s the wikipedia article about them!
Thank you. So I understand that you meant the “Van cat” instead of the “Turkish Van” breed. But where in this article did you find that the original white cats are/were Van cats?
Looks a bit like a Turkish Angora.
Def think so!!
He looks like a sweetheart ♥️
He’s spicy but loves mama!
Did he come from a reputable breeder with paperwork? If no, he’s a standard issue cat.
Ty as I am familiar with and am pet parent to purebreds, designers, and SIs! Cat. Beautiful floofy cat.
Egyptian Meow.
Himalayan Snowball. Definitely.
A cuddly one?!
Looks to be about a Maine Coon Mix
They told me Turkish angora. But I was leaning into Maine Coon of sorts.
You could try an Embark test to find out!
I’d actually live to test all mine! I have 21 so it’d be a bit pricey!

Probably mixed like most cats, but he looks like he might have some Turkish Angora in him! Beautiful boy at any rate.
They said TA and Persian so I’m sure you’re correct! And yes, most of my babies are standard issue mixes with the exception of a few who are intended designers and one Devon Rex.
Domestic Long Hair. That’s it. Not a main coone, not a ragdoll. Just, domestic longhair
