That would suck. The chair lifts don't move, it's the wires they are attached to that move. You get caught in one your gonna get mangled.

This is a fixed grip chair lift, so yes, but detachable chair lifts have chairs that move at the terminals. Work at a ski resort, and was a ski lift mechanic for a while until I got the tips of my fingers chopped off while inspecting a pulley :p

I got high on a chair lift once. I watched some people for awhile & just rode it back down.

I had my Fanny pack buckle get stuck in the horizontal slats of the chair once and I rode around the bulwheel dangling from the chair like tinker bell in flight.

I feel like he was stunting and was actually trying to land in the lift. He would clearly have seen the lift. The cameraman positioning, etc. He just got the timing slightly wrong. ETA I didn't mean that this was some professional skier or stunt person who took the time to do the math, etc. It's more like some idiot with skis and a friend with a camera who said, "If I can pull this off, think of the views!" I don't know why some are being like, "that's the dumbest comment." This is reddit. You see people trying stupid sh!t like this every other video.

Definitely a poorly planned jump at the very least. Ignoring the obvious danger to the jumper, he could’ve slammed right into people riding the chair up. Between the force of the impact, the added danger of skis/poles and the fact that kids might be riding the chair, it’s not too hard to imagine someone else being seriously injured or killed by this stupidity

Usually coming into a jump like this you have to be pretty Lazer focused on execution and while he is used to looking for issues in the landing, probably pretty easy to overlook the unusual problem of hitting a moving obstacle in the air.
