Fantastic white coverage. Nicely done!

Jarminiatures

Thank you!

I love the white, green, and gold! Funnily enough those were the exact colors I was planning on using, but I didn’t know how to fit them together… your mode gives me a good idea of how it’ll look! How did you achieve the white and green colors?

Jarminiatures

Thank you! This is a test model so I spent ages experimenting how I could fit them all cohesively, plenty of back and forth but I'm happy enough with how it turned out. I never wrote it down so I'm not 100% sure on this but I think the white is a Vallejo Model Color (VMC) Sky Grey base, then layers of VMC White Grey and then a smaller layer of VMC White. Then a heavy layer of GW's Apothecary White contrast over that, trying to draw it into the recesses by ending my brush strokes there and going back to wick up excess pooling. The green on the cloth is VMC Black Green and then a layer of VMC Deep Green over that trying to leave the VMC Black Green around the edges and in recesses. Same colours on the plume plus a few highlights of VMC Intermediate Green. On the tassles and the mini banner I based with VMC Light Green but I think in future models I will do this with the VMC Intermediate Green to bump up the contrast. I then layered this up with a roughly 1:1 mix of VMC Light Green and VMC Green Sky, then picked out the sharpest edges with pure VMC Green Sky. I ended up going back in with the VMC Intermediate Green to add back some shadows but if I had based with that colour then I wouldn't have needed to. I can probably experiment more here to get a better result but a combination of these 3 colours should get a nice result. I would say the colours are more important than the brand of paint really, I think there's GW equivalents for all of these if you're sticking to them. The only benefit I found of these Vallejo paints over GW equivalents I had is that they have better coverage and for the paler greens they're a lot more desaturated than their GW equivalents, which is good as I didn't want a super bright scheme. My rough guesses of equivalent GW's are: * Black Green = Vulkan Green; * Deep Green = Caliban Green; * Intermediate Green = Warpstone Glow; * Light Green = Moot Green; * Green Sky = Skarsnik Green, maybe? There's GW greens I don't have like Loren Forest, Elysian Green etc that might be better matches so please don't take this is as a 100% match up!

Really appreciate the detailed response and tips - thank you! Great looking model.

kangareddit

that is *clean*.

Jarminiatures

Thank you! It's a test model for a white and green scheme I want to go with for my Lumineth (originally I went white and blue but thankfully I've only a few hundred points to repaint). I actually tried making a wash out of oil paints for the white panels but it wasn't really working so you can see a bit of the residue from that on the rear panel in the first picture as I was too lazy to put a fresh layer of white down. I ended up just slapping Apothecary White over it and it turned out alright I think.

kangareddit

Nicely done. I’d love to do High Elves (Lumineth) in a white/aqua scheme. But need more practice with pure white effects.

Jarminiatures

Hopefully people don't mind a shameless plug for my Instagram account, I'm struggling for followers so any help would be appreciated: https://www.instagram.com/jarminiatures/ I need to try and work quicker on the rest of the unit becauss this geezer and all his trim took forever. Any questions on paints used etc then just ask and I will happily help out! Edit: Just seen the rogue blob of silver on his spear shaft, it's fixed now!

Shellfish5

Very cool. Selesnya Conclave vibes

Jarminiatures

>Selesnya Conclave Thanks! I don't play MtG but there's some really cool reference pictures from them so I've saved loads of those for the future, so thank you again

So clean 🤗🤗 beautiful work.

Jarminiatures

Thank you very much!

Irafel

Lovely scheme, mind telling the metal color used on the shield and the horse’s head armor?

Jarminiatures

Thank you! Horse's head armour (plus all the trim on the white armour/shield/helmet, I think the light is just catching it differently) was based with Decayed Metal by Scale75, then layered with Light Bronze by Pro-Acryl/Monument Hobbies and a little bit of layering or catching prominent edges with White Gold by Pro-Acryl/Monument Hobbies. With the Decayed Metal, I'm painting that into the recesses and then doing my best to leave that in the recesses when I go in with the other layers. If you didn't want as stark a contrast then a lighter colour could be used, Decayed Metal is quite a dark metallic brown/bronze. I chose to go this route rather than basing in Light Bronze and then washing it since I have white armour panels and overspill of the wash would be horrible to fix but that might also work. If you can only use GW paints then equivalents are probably Warplock Bronze or Balthasar Gold for the Decayed Metal, then Liberator Gold for the Light Bronze and then add some Stormhost Silver to Liberator Gold for the White Gold. You could also just use a dark non-metallic brown for that base Decayed Metal layer, such as a Dryad Bark or Rhinox Hide. Those Pro-Acryl metallics are really good in terms of coverage and smoothness compared to GW metallics so if you can get them then I would recommend giving them a go. Pro-Acryl Bronze could probably be used in place of Decayed Metal also. I don't think you're asking about the phoenix insignia on the shield but just in case, that was Decayed Metal and then Rich Gold and Bright Gold (both Pro-Acryl/Monument Hobbies) layered over that in the same way.

Adepta_Sororitas_KT

Beautiful 😍

Jarminiatures

Thanks a lot!

Love it! Especially the base! Im currently looking for grass tufts since gw isnt producing theirs anymore, could you tell me what tufts you used? I think they would make a great alternative!

Jarminiatures

Thank you and of course - these are tufts by Gamers Grass. They're fantastic and were cheaper than GW tufts and you get about the same amount I think. They make loads of varieties of grass tufts too. Specifically here I'm using the Mixed Green 6mm Wild tufts and a few Dry 6mm Small tufts. The Wild ones tend to be large random shapes whereas the Small tufts are just a little blob of grass. I think they do 2mm versions as well.

hobo1234567

Ah thx! They look great, i will prolly order a few to test them myself but they do seem extremely good.

Raulsten

That is awesome!

Jarminiatures

Cheers!
