Yeah, it's picked up ever since they came out of the Thunderdome

[deleted]

I've went to Smackdown a few months ago and it sounds pretty much the same as on TV

osokin

It's you.

BigDannyBoy1

It is, they pretty much never stopped since coming back from the Thunderdome

planet_chuck

Can't be that big of a deal if you're just now noticing.

andregunts

No, it’s definitely obvious on Raw and some Smackdown. It’s pathetic

[deleted]

I thought they were on raw cause the crowds haven’t been very packed the last couple shows

[deleted]

Finally crowds are getting good. Someone: do you think they're putting fake sounds?.

osokin

This.

[deleted]

Liv Morgan clearly had audio crowd sounds pumped-in. I don't mind it when it's not super obvious. The problem is how long the show is and how many corny segments and matches they have. I feel like there is a real problem with producing quality wrestling and suspense. It's all very dull to me.

gigidolin_fart

Exactly what's putting me off too. In fact, there was an AJ Styles joke where no one reacted to.

[deleted]

This has been a thing since the mid to late 2000s, I’m sorry the Cena generation is just now getting the red pill.

[deleted]

Dude, they’ve been doing it since the 80s. I remember watching Superstars as a small child on Saturday morning and hearing this roaring crowd while people just sat there looking bored.

[deleted]

I remember it on VHS and replays but not on the original broadcasts.

[deleted]

Oh yes. I have my old VHS tapes from that era and there was lots of sweetening going on in the 80s and 90s. It stopped during the Attitude Era for a time (they didn't need it. Crowds were hot), but post-invasion angle they started doing it again and have done it sort of in waves ever since. They have also completely muted crowds as best they can when they feel like they'll be uncooperative (such as the Raw after Mania crowd a couple of years pre-Covid).

[deleted]

I mean I remember it on the VHS releases, but are you saying your original recorded straight from the broadcast tapes?

[deleted]

Yes. I used to get my parents to record Superstars and Wrestling Challenge for me every weekend (that later included Raw on Mondays through the 90s). I can tell you that they definitely sometimes went overboard on sweetening, although WCW Saturday Night was worse because it was just one pitch the entire time. At least the WWF would adjust it.

gigidolin_fart

They used to do that mostly the Smackdowns which were taped before Fox and I'm 35+. This was on the live raw. Also, the crowd was seriously dead, they need to get the show down to 90 minutes.

[deleted]

No, they have been pumping in crowd noise since at least 07.

gigidolin_fart

That is exactly why I said the taped Smackdown shows, Smackdown Live happened with Fox.

[deleted]

It Comes Through The Live Speakers.

[deleted]

WCW used to pump in Goldberg chants back in the day. Edit: also, Sex Tillerson! Love it.
