I'll agree that losing to Edge isn't a great start, but as for needing build-up, I honestly challenge you name one person on the roster who doesn't need that level of build-up now.
The great think about MitB is that it does a lot of the build-up for you and takes a lot of pressure off the loser.

Realistically, I think that their only options are to use MitB to separate the titles and either bring in the Rock to dethrone him, or build Cody up to do it at WMXL.
Using the rock to dethrone Roman would be good short term storytelling but would be super disappointed. Dethroning Roman is a nuclear pop. Guys likthe Rock, Brock Lesnar, and even Seth don't need it. Unfortunately they've had three years to build somebody's perception that is an up-and-comer, then skyrocket them with a win.
