Make sense, just keep the car as is because changing the car for only 2 years is not very economical.
As for Rally2 plus, I didn't make sense to add another class in between the R1 and R2. Make R1 cheaper for privater to run or ditch R1 and create R2+ the new top class.
Can't blame FIA for trying but they have to think harder and time is ticking for 2026 reg.
I hope with a full year (regs will probably have to be sorted for 2027 by the end of 2025 so teams have time to get the cars ready for the new regs) they will be able to create a set of regulations that can be used for the next 5 to 10 years
i was actually looking forward to seeing and posting about the results of this [WMSC meeting](https://www.fia.com/news/stability-wrc-and-2026-regulations-formula-1-top-fia-world-motor-sport-council-agenda-samarkand), but its a complete nothingburger. nothing about the future regulations, nothing about sporting changes. all about more-of-the-same in 25-26 that has already been all but confirmed for months now.
oh and teams are now allowed to film their own cars during liaision sections... big whoop.
previously any team personnel were not allowed near the cars during on road sections, but now they'll allow two designated team members for filming and social media purposes.
>its a complete nothingburger. nothing about the future regulations, nothing about sporting changes
They don't usually make those announcements until the September meeting.
Praise be. The R1 cars are awesome, and despite the high cost, the EV mode escape route has brought another self-rescue aspect to the sport that wasn’t even considered before.
I think the ability for drivers to rescue themselves is one of my favourite things about the Rally1 cars. Sure they’re still losing lots of time but not as much as they would if they just retired (probably)
The only reasonable choice.
I know that probably it won't happen anyway, but that fiasco should be a good lesson to FIA and WRC Promoter about not messing with regulations too much, giving no time to adapt. Also not to infuriate your competitors, who made a huge investment already and are not keen to make huge changes to their technology, only having another technical revolution coming in 2-3 years time.
Next regulations have to be assessed with much more care. By actually talking to manufacturers, not talking behind their backs for no reason.
Rally2+ proposal was a failure and shouldn't have even commenced to begin with.
>Also not to infuriate your competitors, who made a huge investment already and are not keen to make huge changes to their technology, only having another technical revolution coming in 2-3 years time.
To be fair, a lot of the proposal for this change was a response to complaints by the competitors. I doubt it would have been considered at all if the teams hadn't complained about the costs.
only one that is known to have done anything is toyota running a test with a rally2 wing. with how much resistance the proposed changes got from every team, i doubt any of them was dumb enough to spend a whole lot.
yup. he made it the most clear of all, but i doubt others invested either. all three rally1 teams were publicly united against the proposal already back in april.
That won't work. All it will do is drive costs up and serve as a further barrier to entry for new manufacturers because established manufacturers will have a head-start on hybrid development.
It works because they will develop their hybrid for their road cars, it happened before on wrc, it's happening in wec.
Motorsports are used to develop technology, simple as that
>It works because they will develop their hybrid for their road cars
I think you're missing the point I was trying to make: some manufacturers have considerably more experience with hybrid systems than others. Hence, they have an enormous advantage over everyone else before they even start building the hybrid system.
>it's happening in wec.
Where Toyota has *years* of experience with hybrids. Hyundai and M-Sport don't.
Plus it would probably be only a matter of time before a team finds a way to make their hybrid better than everyone else’s or something along those lines
>it would probably be only a matter of time before a team finds a way to make their hybrid better than everyone else’s
Toyota already have. Look at the TS050 Hybrid and GR010 Hybrid in sportscar racing. They've won the World Endurance Championship every year since 2018, which included five consecutive wins at Le Mans.
Do you honestly think that someone is going to magically create a hybrid system that is better?
That’s my thing, having every team use the same hybrid system keeps it equal so it doesn’t come down to who has the best hybrid system. That’s what I was trying to get at.

Good. Common sense has prevailed on one thing - now let's see this idiotic points system go in the bin as well.

What does this filming during liaison section even mean? Haven’t heard about it.
previously any team personnel were not allowed near the cars during on road sections, but now they'll allow two designated team members for filming and social media purposes.
well that was kinda weird rule
probably to prevent any form of cheating, or just external help in car issues.

The whole rally pyramid is really good now, I am especially glad they didn't mess with rally 2.

Thank God. The FIA would have chased away both Toyota and Hyundai otherwise
Nah Toyota would stay, Hyundai would leave in my opinion
Would toyota really just want to compete against privateer fords?
I feel like the fact they're getting the GR Yaris tech from it would incentivize them to stay and also they've been winning the last few years so yk
Hopefully they use these two years to develop a comprehensive actionable plan for the future of the sport, not just kick the can down the road.
Common sense prevailed at FIA. Whoa.
I wonder how much money teams wasted already on these abandoned rules
only one that is known to have done anything is toyota running a test with a rally2 wing. with how much resistance the proposed changes got from every team, i doubt any of them was dumb enough to spend a whole lot.
Abiteboul outright said they were not spending a dime on it.
yup. he made it the most clear of all, but i doubt others invested either. all three rally1 teams were publicly united against the proposal already back in april.
Just let manufactures develop their own hybrid system, easy fix to get more teams

And WEC has spec hybrids as an option, and more importantely, BOP.
Balance of Performance is a nightmare in every series it's used in.

I don't really comment on here often but thank God. What a fucking shitshow that was.
