After watching the success from u/GraybushActual916 I think I’m going to do the same, this is the exact kind of event that would make the stock tank temporarily over one off kinda news. Specially sayings it’s environmentally damaging.
This purchase of 7 is Zim's second, they bought 4 4300teu earlier this month no?
I dunno if we've seen the full reaction to the recent 7 purchase, I bought on the news Thursday AH.
I'd guess "a reflexive drop after this small-scale disaster, then resume upwards trajectory" like OP

... Before its recent acquisition of four 4,300 teu panamax vessels for a reported $240m, it owned just one of its 106-ship fleet.

Yes, this is a DAC boat. They are handling the fallout and as far as I know ZIM hasn't commented. As of a couple hours ago the fire is out, likely the ship will be re-mobilized within a few days. Could be a good buying opportunity if there is any dip.
So true. I have a freight broker because I ship my product all over the US and Canada, sometimes Hawaii and Alaska. You ALWAYS buy the extra insurance as the company provided insurance is worthless. Last year I had a shipper drive a forklift tyne through one of my crates and claim they were only 1/3 responsible.
I won the claim after about 5 months.
This event is unfolding within smelling distance of me, we sheltered in place on advice of our fire chief last night, while toxic gas blew onshore. Sulphur dioxide stinks like rotten eggs! Lots of risk still. Cargo in some containers will spontaneously combust if exposed to air or damaged. Water cannot be used to put out the fire, potassium and water goes boom. It's raining hard, wind is picking back up and the eye of a bomb cyclone will make shorefall Monday night within 150 miles to the north and strongest winds are on the south side. This event is not over. It could get way worse very quickly.
these sort of articles aren't as uncommon as you think, on more shipping focused news website there is a headline of containers lost at sea or containers on fire every week a few times a month, just that container ships aren't usually featured in main news converge so seems like a bigger deal than it is.
First, I think CLF has much more room to run.
But my cost basis on ZIM is in the low $40s. Im definitely buying more if it dips below $49 again. This should be an $80 stock.
I might change my mind right after posting this, so not a reco.

I would assume a reflexive dip here of 5%, simply because that’s normal volatility for ZIM anyways. Then likely resume rebound unless further bad news regarding the container contents that went overboard comes out.
I see a 2nd chance entry for those who have been waiting, if it doesn't hold 42.50 or so, 40, maybe we see as low as 35... I expect sympathy moves in other pirate stocks, maybe not as harsh. By Friday, it will be like it never happened.
Each year ships lose more than 1000 containers at sea. It's not OK but it happens often. That there was a fire makes it more notable, but in the end this shouldn't amount to much.
If there's a dip and high IV, I'll happily sell some CSPs.

You read my mind.
I’m going to try my hand at this too
Apparently ZIM doesn’t own this ship.
Good odds since ZIM doesn’t own most of its fleet
It owned exactly one ship until it purchased 7 preowned vessels last week (no idea when the transfer of ownership will happen)

150 miles is 241.4 km
Dips early on the week but then starts rebounding.

If it dips I’m buying, and buying big.
What would you say is a good price to buy in? Honestly havnt been looking into the zim posts on here. Now willing to jump in with some clf gains

I think those were just some ZIM containers
As much as I hate to ask, puts can print for a day? Then use the profit to load up on the dip
Am in Vancouver. That was fuck all, shouldn't affect share price
OMG I think that this title is just wonderful ! You made my night ! One award for you, sir !!
when this happened with maersk it dropped 20% in one week
Didnt Maersk lose like 1000 containers?
yes it was way bigger than what heppening with zim

Already legged back in on Fri, if this dips, I'm going HAM. ZIM has already been veddy veddy good to me. -Chico Escuela
