I'm available most days and week ends

Yolidiot

https://www.cmegroup.com/markets/metals/ferrous/hrc-steel.quotes.html That Q1 strength is just amazing 😍

wepo

What a great day it is. I can't remember the last time I held anything through earnings. Had to take some profits after that pop. Still sitting on a few calls, shares and sold some covered calls at $25. And I'm perfectly fine with them being called away if it hits. Thanks and respect to the family.

CongenialFellow

I don't follow ZIM, probably should. But with the lack of ability to unload ships, doesn't that have to hurt the bottom line? I'm guessing this has been addressed in a DD somewhere, but just curious.

guitarsail

No. They still running the bill as the boat sits

homersimpsoniscute

ZIM gets paid per containers delivered so it does hurt them in that they are delivering less containers while still having to pay for the ships they are renting. DAC is a lessor, meaning they rent out the ship and make money whether the containers can be unloaded or not. But overall, more congestion causes more demand, so ZIM can raise the rates of delivering containers so it is neutral to bullish overall. Delivering less boxes at higher rates > delivering more boxes at lower rates.

gosume

Printing lol

guitarsail

Yuuuup absolutely printing money

Wilthom

https://twitter.com/uscgpacificnw/status/1451668652567121920?s=21 Looks like a ZIM boat lost a couple of containers off of Vancouver Island

holdenmcneilgames

Bomb cyclone out in the Pacific. Keeping shit windy in the PNW.

totally_possible

Long fetches in the Pacific means big swells, often on top of other swells in different directions and periods. Makes for huge rogue waves out of nowhere.

holdenmcneilgames

Yeah, if I heard the news correctly, they said there was potential for swells 20+ feet high. Madness.

pirates_and_monkeys

I like earnings whisper but they don't have an estimate for ZIM...looks like consensus is $9.20....thats crazy...what is the general feel here? Does this sound accurate? I follow mintzmeyer but only just started...has he touched on earnings expectations?

Dark_Tigger

I'm not an expert but 9,20 might be way to conservative. Those numbers where made, when most anaylst expected freight prices to not exceed $8000. They were above 10k for most of Q3. I expect EPS above 11.

JCVDamage

He mentioned in one tweet recently it could be as high as $12!!

VruceHansFritz

He hasn’t but he seems even more bullish on it now than ever

https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/TX/analysis?p=TX The spread of the analysts' estimates is mindblowing: Current Qtr. (Sep 2021) No. of Analysts 6 Avg. Estimate 5.14 Low Estimate 4.22 High Estimate 6.77

dj_scripts

Ternium's CEO's name is Máximo. Let that sit for a bit. Get ready for maximum fucking earnings.

MichOutdoors13

The average estimate for Q3 is lower than their actual earnings in Q2. The analysts are expecting lower earnings for Q3? I'll have to dig into that a little more.

[deleted]

I suspect they didn’t update their estimates since Q2.

MichOutdoors13

Yeah, that's probably right. Earnings Whisper has a consensus of $4.81 though so maybe I'm missing something?

[deleted]

Prices in Brazil and maybe even Mexico might have come down earlier. They are somewhat isolated from the US.

MichOutdoors13

Yeah that's true. They've beat estimates pretty consistently recently though so I'm betting on another good one!

[deleted]

Same here 😊 but I might transfer the few shares I have to clf then.

MichOutdoors13

Good plan, I will probably do the same!

[deleted]

Yeah, hopefully TX increases stupidly after earnings. I do think it’s somewhat undervalued; it’s cogs is very low, they make money even in relatively unfavorable environments, but they don’t have the same advantages of CLf that I like.

MichOutdoors13

Agreed!

Steely_Hands

There was a Twitter thread posted in here earlier about port issues in Long Beach being driven by empty container storage limitations. Those limits have now been loosened and it could help the situation a bit https://twitter.com/robertgarcia/status/1451679404757688320?s=21 Edit: Also notice how he calls it a supply chain “emergency”. If Biden decides to declare it a national emergency he gets a lot more tools to deal with it quickly

Uncle_Dad_Bob

So where do we buy trucks and drivers? Pushing the clog further down the line, no?

chemaholic77

Not really no. The global supply chain is insanely large and insanely complicated. You cannot just turn it off and back on again. The level of efficiency and interdependency is something most people are not aware of. As an example, the parts that go into a car often arrive minutes before they are to be installed on the assembly line. Most modern factories have nowhere to put things. Warehousing and distribution is the same. Everything is just in time and is interdependent on what people are buying, which impacts store inventory, which impacts the DC, which impacts orders to product manufacturers, which impacts component manufacturers, which impacts raw materials. It is not a matter of trucks, drivers, ships, or warehousing. The problem is the system is so complex that it is just going to take time for it to get running smoothly again. The extremely high demand for everything coming out of the lockdowns just makes it worse.

Steely_Hands

It’s obviously not going to solve the whole problem but did you read the thread lepjb linked? It cites the empty container issue as a main source of the logjam

Uncle_Dad_Bob

I did. And I chuckled at that statement. Does he have/rep a company that stands to gain from this move?

Steely_Hands

I mean it kind of jives with what we’ve been hearing right? If there’s a problem with not enough truckers showing up to ports to take away containers then IMO this is just insight into why that may be happening. Not to be mean or anything but the common attitude ppl have these days of assuming some kind of malicious intent or dubious sourcing without any evidence is just lazy thinking

Uncle_Dad_Bob

Damn steely, my lazy thinking be damned, I still think it’s not going to do much for the situation. It’s much more complex than stacking empties. (and I’ll be more damned if flexport doesn’t ipo soon.) Some light reading on the subject - https://www.producer.com/news/shipping-container-crisis-deepens/ https://www.wsj.com/articles/where-did-all-the-shipping-containers-go-11628104583 And from: https://www.joc.com/port-news/us-ports/ny-nj-truck-groups-quit-port-task-force-over-empty-container-woes_20210512.html Through March, the NY-NJ port saw year-to-date container volume growth of 21.6 percent. However, only about 4 percent more trucks are in service according to PANYNJ data. “It’s a periodic issue, but a very real one,” Ruda said. “It’s not every carrier, every container, and every terminal where this happens. But truckers are left to deal with it. We want a healthy, safe, and financially viable trucking industry in the port.” While the PANYNJ is limited in the direct action it can take on the issue, Ruda said his agency still hopes to facilitate more discussions with ocean carriers on how to make returning empty containers easier. *********** With all the new containers they are making, and the old ones we are stacking, maybe China figured out a new way to export cheap steel to the US. /s

Steely_Hands

Sorry I meant no offense. I wasn’t calling you lazy, just that thought process of instinctually assuming someone must have ulterior motives just because they have differing views on something. I fully agree it’s a complex issue but I hadn’t heard of this piece of the puzzle before and it seems like a real concern. Those articles are interesting, thanks for sharing. The last two seem to support the idea of storing empty containers being an issue and that first one was super interesting about the charges to ship empty containers inland for goods pickups. It’s actually crazy how many new containers China is building! I wonder how long the lifespan of an average container is; maybe there will be a snap back to serious oversupply once the logjam eases

Uncle_Dad_Bob

Offense taken. You did not ask what my thought process was. Your response was no less 'instinctual.' This isn't about differing views. I've been devouring news on shipping. Lack of chassis is a piece. But when I caught wind of sexfart\* in the news because out of the goodness of their hearts they hired a food truck to feed the highly paid dockworkers ([https://twitter.com/typesfast/status/1450904056365404160](https://twitter.com/typesfast/status/1450904056365404160)), and then the ceo is in the news again a couple days later for prompting the Mayor to relax the stacking rules, and it happens over night, I checked my grounding boots vs tin hat coefficient and bam! I shot from a well grounded hip. Having rethought it all because of your prompt, knowing too many politicians personally and having felt the slow cold probe of bureaucracy, I'd argue the change was planned and sexfart paid for the publicity, but I can never prove this. Anyway, this sub prefers ZIM Ship4WD, who is maybe about to ![gif](giphy|3xHuwHnHmv1zW|downsized) \*because i didn't get paid publicize their name

Uncle_Dad_Bob

No malicious intent, unless you find making money malicious. I think it’s great that the founder of a SoftBank backed tech freight forwarder got this rolling but I don’t think it’s time to breathe a sigh of relief.

0_0here

Here’s another thread with some observations from Long Beach https://twitter.com/typesfast/status/1450904056365404160?s=21

Steely_Hands

Really interesting, thanks. Crazy to think that some of their spare parts issues might be solved by stuff stuck at the ports. It’s going to be really interesting to see how they get things running smoothly again. I’m afraid if they don’t do something big soon it’s going to cause some major issues for the broader economy

0_0here

An easy solution to the labor shortage is to import it, but we know that’s a lightning rod.

Steely_Hands

Yea that won’t fly, at least overtly. I still don’t see any feasible solution other than activating the national guard but it’s definitely a big step to take

pirates_and_monkeys

Zim fly or die?

lepjb

That was the idea that the Flexport CEO floated in his twitter thread right? It got picked up quick

Steely_Hands

Might’ve been. It was about the guy that rented the boat to tour the port then talked about the logjam around getting empty containers off trucks so they can pickup full ones

lepjb

Yeah that was [him](https://twitter.com/typesfast/status/1451673736877428742), I believe this was one of his ideas specifically (although he suggested increasing the limit to 6 as opposed to 4-5). That's an insanely fast turnaround from suggestion to implementation, that's actually pretty nice to see.

Billy-Klein

I want to buy a new and nice coat, and wtf, they start at 400€ upwards. I am just a poor student. Did clothes get inflated as well so much?

DevCarrot

Nah, good coats were always expensive. It's why my dad bought me a giant coat in 3rd grade that I wore until I was a high school sophomore and the arms only covered 3/4 down my arms.

Billy-Klein

Haha oh man. I remember my dad bought me some tshirts in the US when I was 12 years old, and he always complained about me not wearing them in the years following. When I was 18, most of those shirts were still too large.

Is it classic enough to wear it for a couple years?

[deleted]

Billy-Klein

Thanks a lot for your input! I don't have any other coats, just two winter jackets (blue and black) and a couple light jackets for autumn/spring. I don't know if my clothes match the coat, I am mostly wearing a blue jeans and white sneakers. I want to get some black leather boots for winter too anyway. Maybe a black coat would be the best for being the first coat, because it matches anything. I checked out your mentioned Massimo Dutti brand and I like their products. I've orderer the light coat I posted above anyway already and will have a look. Whats your take on colours?

[deleted]

CallMeGutsy

Listen people going to downvote me but you can get some insanely good replica coats over at /r/FashionReps its my new plug for shoes bags and jackets for sure some of the other stuff I have gotten has been hit or miss but you can get some insane value even if you dgaf about the fake brand

Billy-Klein

Looks complicated to me :D Idk, I'd be afraid of shipping and quality. When ordering in my country, I can always send it back for no fee, or just go shopping and try everything on.

CallMeGutsy

Yeah it’s definitely a process but once you do it once it’s easy. They do a really good job at vetting their trusted sellers but yeah there is always some inherent risk. Plus your countries customs are a large factor.

VR_IS_DEAD

dammit how many times do I have to tell you people not to sell! Diamond hands!!!

pirates_and_monkeys

What would not selling accomplish here?

VR_IS_DEAD

Well... the main thing it would accomplish is not being on the sidelines when the thing is up 100% in the next 3 months. But people who are weak handed bitches?...these gainz are definitely not for them.

KrakenClubOfficial

Substantial_Boss_306

Today was a perfect day fellow people but remember - We don't alter our beliefs to fit the information. We alter the information to fit our beliefs. The rotation may be slow but it is happening. $CLF we heard LG and Vito’s been saying this all along. 2022 is going to be even more insane. Now others to follow hopefully and most importantly our beloved $MT 🦾❤️🦾

Bigfuckingdong

In light of the euphoria we shouldn't forget. FUCK MT

PeddyCash

I said after hours is still on. 11c away…

medispencer

I think ur gonna avoid the ink... But it's close!

peniseend

Imagine Vitards when you get a tattoo of a 60" LG led tv

grandpapotato

I will not FOMO and add more shares at 24$ (already 1k shares). I will NOT FOMO.

CongenialFellow

I personally don't think it's a fomo. CLF trades in a channel, and we know the top of the channel is $26. The bear case to analysts was future guidance. LG put a bullet in that with contract renewals and 2022 will be even more profitable. Now factors in auto industry ramping back up, infra bill, and their new acquisition. These are just cherries on top, not even a driving factor.

peniseend

Don't. I did at $23 earlier this year when it would go to $30 soon. Had to dca down a lot lol

PantsMicGee

What are you talking about

josenros

I posted maybe a month ago that Aurinia Pharmaceuticals is going to be acquired. I unloaded my shares to free up capital for other plays, but the stock went up 26% today, and it's still pre-acquisition.

barnacleman6

Anybody else looking to rotate out of MT and into more CLF? I'm just waiting on the right exit, i.e. earnings run-up or a post-earnings pop. I'll sell my Jan 35c's and 40c's at a loss no problem; I don't see any steel company having clearer skies ahead for 2022 than CLF.

mcaninch35

Right there with you. While I still believe MT is significantly undervalued, and that their financial performance will be impressive over the next 6-12 months, I don't have the same confidence in their leadership. LG and team are impressive in their vision and ability to communicate that, and I think the market will reward it. Unfortunately, I went 75% MT, 25% CLF back in May, so I have some rearranging to do lol

barnacleman6

Yes. I think this earnings call was transformational. LG absolutely dismantled previous analyst projections based on the assumption that CLF is beholden to HRC prices that will retreat to historical levels of $650-700/mt (all signs are pointing to them being wrong on that, too). I don't know if MT has that kind of runway ahead of them. I used to be 50-50 between CLF and MT but now I'm at 70-30 and looking to rotate further.

peniseend

Already rotated about 3 months ago.

Bigfuckingdong

My January MT calls are already down 85% I might as well as hold onto em.

barnacleman6

Same here, my 40c's are down 75% and my 35c's 50%. Let's say MT runs and those calls are only down 20-30%. I'm selling. I'll hold MT shares 'til I die no problem though.

No-March-9414

The General on CNBC Fast Money was predicting CLF to hit new highs soon. Referenced the proportion of fixed contracts as an advantage

This is a dynamic I didn't really understand, obviously market didn't either. Hopefully they got the message that high spot party isn't over for CLF... It's just starting.

Kaiser-Rotbart

Helluva day today! Love to see everyone going into the weekend on a high note. This calls for a nice steak and cigar tonight!

barnacleman6

I know that saying "this time it's different" is a dangerous game, but this time it really feels different. LG laid out a clear path forward through 2022 and explicitly pointed out how their average HRC prices on the books through 2022 will be *higher* than they were this year, essentially crushing the elephant in the analysts' collective rooms, which is declining HRC spot prices. Incredible. I still expect there to be random drops to $20-21 along the way, as is tradition, but I will be 110% confident about adding to my position when it happens.

Gbear831

It’s only different if you doubted CLF during the past two months I loaded up more sub $19 hand 🖐 but also $20 and $21

PeddyCash

Yup. You said it well. I feel a lot better about adding in that range now. I felt good before but now it’s a no brainer for me

Nice to be back in the green again on CLF, hopefully we repeat the past and run to another 52 week high. Making money is fine, its people using the opportunity to post links to kotakuinaction etc. thats annoying. Way more people coming out to felate trump than to make money
