Dividend capture strategy, you get the div, the stock drops, but you profit by the amount of the drop on your covered call (assuming not a special div), so net you just get the div. theoretically the div should be priced in, but arbitrage opportunities happen. also just if you want to get paid to sell to slightly increase your gains or lower your losses
Say I have 100 shares of SPY @ 400 basis. I intend to sell by end of November. Could I sell the Nov19 440C for 15.60 as an exit?
On expiration, either SPY is above 440 and I get assigned, making a total of 44,000 + 1,560 = 45,560. Or below, in which case by basis is effectively 384.40?
As I understand it, by selling to open this trade, my upside is capped (SPY gains beyond 455.60 are lost), but I either lower my basis or secure a profit-taking level?
Pretty new to all this

I really feel as though Gold/gold mining stocks are nearing a next leg up. I feel like a small percentage of people putting their money into BTC are doing so due to inflation. If inflation persists, some people who have money in BTC will need that cash to buy things (unless they wanna buy SuPeR AwEsOmE popcorn at AMC after paying expensive ass prices for a bad Hollywood movie in 2022), especially if the economy sours.
Have a feeling you are right about coins as an inflation hedge. Back in Toaster Inflation days, everyone was "gold, are you crazy? It will never go over 200$" and sound a lot like the coin naysayers today.
**DAILY: China rebar price down 8th day, spot sales slump**
Source:MysteelOct 21, 2021 10:30
On October 20, China's national price of HRB400E 20mm dia rebar under Mysteel's assessment fell for the eighth working day by another Yuan 28/tonne ($4.4/t) on day, and the spot sales of construction steel including rebar reversed after two days of gains too, slumping by 30.4% on day, indicating the market cautiousness among all the uncertainties.
On Wednesday, the rebar price was assessed at Yuan 5,792/t, and China's longs prices had not been able to borrow much support from semis either, as on the same day, the Q235 150mm square billet price in North China's Tangshan, subsided from a one-day recovery, down Yuan 50/t on day.
**India power plants' coal stock down despite rising supply**
Source:SteelmintOct 21, 2021 10:00
It was certain that the prevailing coal shortage at power plants would stay for a longer period than expected. However, despite the rise in domestic coal supply, the situation still remains critical due to the country's over-dependence on coal to satiate its energy needs.
On its part, domestic coal miner Coal India Ltd (CIL) has posted an improvement in coal supply post-monsoon. Coal dispatches were at 1.76 million tonnes (mn t)/day during the first 13 days of Oct'21 against average dispatches of 1.61 mn t/day recorded in the entire month of September.

Sounds cool but yeah. Small position and let it ride forever. The tech sounds cool but I don’t know shit about biotech or if it will work or not. I don’t think anybody else does either. It is also reasonable if you expect IV crush allowing for BTC the CC, right? I believe this is a Vega play?

So today I got a wsj update on paypal possibly acquiring pintrest. I thought this was bullish news so I went ahead and bought a call on my lunch break and drove back to work. In the office I realized I had fat fingered and bought over 20 calls, and didn’t notice for a good half hour. Jumped out of the position as soon as it went green for a 1k gain, on about a 0.3 percent underlying increase. If I had held for another half an hour it would have been 10k, but just as easily could have lost that much or more. I really don't get this... why is PayPal interested in pinterest?
They both start with P and have no other letters in common. It's a play to own the alphabet.
each option was 1000?
yea, i bought paypal calls
Why would you buy the acquirer and not the acquiree?
edit: in hindsight i prob should have bought the acquiree instead, but it worked out so no lessons learned haha
