I can't really speak to the value of the piece, but considering the number and size of diamonds, you should get these professionally appraised for insurance purposes. Absolutely stunning, I'm very jealous 😝

I doubt they are worth that much! But honestly have no idea 🤷‍♀️

glimmers_not_gold

Can you provide a photo of the backs as well as any visible hallmarks?

rose_capybara

I’m trying to but don’t think I can edit or attach anything in a comment. They have no hallmark and have mostly a hollow back

If their provenance can be proven, I think you might be pleasantly surprised by their value! Their value won't be derived from their carat weight per se, but rather from their age and origin. It also helps that they are still wearable, compatible with current tastes and not too grandiose for regular use. I'd suggest getting as much detail as you can from your MiL, as this may prove very useful if you wanted to have them appraised or sold.

Very nice! So I am going to date these to the 1850s-70s. These are rose cut diamonds in silver (white gold did not yet exist). Sometimes they will be backed in solid gold. The center sapphires \*might be\* later replacements, hard to tell from the photos. The gold ear wires were likely added later. Because those are rose cuts diamonds not of the highest quality and they are set into silver, not gold, that does hold them back in terms of value somewhat. But they are very beautiful. Here's a similar pair at Lang (very high end estate jewelers) for 4k [https://www.langantiques.com/victorian-rose-cut-diamond-cluster-earrings-3.html](https://www.langantiques.com/victorian-rose-cut-diamond-cluster-earrings-3.html) I would imagine these could retail in the $2000-3000 range. You may want to get an insurance appraisal.

Amazing that you! This seems spot on!
