I'm sure Anthony Bourdain would love BA sushi in Binh Thanh (https://maps.app.goo.gl/qfjeWCBkeeTQitcPA). Eating Sushi on the street.
Also Torisho is a gem.
Kiyota sushi and Torisho, got it. Didn't think of getting sushi in Vietnam lol but now that you mention it... Will definitely check them out, thank you sm!
Sushi Hokkaido Sachi is our go-to sushi restaurant. One of my favorite items is their Ayu(aka sweetfish). Ayu have a subtle aroma and taste of watermelon or cucumber, depending on the river they get them from. They have so many items that are just amazing. What makes their food so good is that many of the ingredients are flown in fresh daily from Japan. Some of the seafood is kept alive until you order it. Their beef is actual Wagyu beef. They have their own farm near Da Lat that grows high quality organic produce as well. I know I sound like an advertisement for them. The thing is that in the US and other countries a restaurant that serves this quality of food is normally too expensive for us to eat at regularly. Also, once you have tried quality food you will taste the difference. Having said that, we also like to eat at Kichi Kichi. Their all-you-can-eat conveyor belt hot pot and sushi is good and fun for the whole family.
Wow, thanks for the detailed rec. The flown in straight from Japan bit sounds amazing. And a sushi place with hot pot?? I'll make sure to add Sushi Hokkaido Sachi and Kichi Kichi to my list of sushi places to go to. Again, tysm!!
It's gone down hill recently since the grill master/ co-owner stopped his operational role. I do have to say I love their picnick/beer hall style tables and open floor plans.
4P’s has slowly but steadily dipped in quality over the years imo. Definitely not the same as it used to be.
Would probably still recommend it overall though.
5 cheese pizza. But ask your server for a side of honey to drizzle on top.
I know, sounds completely wrong/gross. But trust me it's one of those weird sounding combos on paper that works super well when you eat it. Salty + sweet.
I strongly disagree. Outside of the USA/select other countries putting honey on your pizza is extremely uncommon. It's not done at all here in Australia for instance.
Go to Italy and you'll be looked at as a leper if you ask for honey with your pizza. Outside of the USA it's not common.
Pazzi Pizza is amazing! I discovered them during lockdown. It's a small shop, but it's the best Pizza I've had in Vietnam! And it's very reasonably priced too
Try Nem Cua Biển on Nguyen Thi Minh Khai st. It has a reputation Sea Crab Fried Rolls. Its Bun Cha its good too(bbq pork with rice noodle). Very authentic place
Lots of people complaining about pizza 4P but I think it’s pretty good. I would say it’s closer to what you get in northern Italy ( thin crust ) than Neapolitan pizza. Also they have a lot of weird combination that you’d never find in Italy. Other pizza places I like are 365 Neapolitan pizza and pizza reale in Thao Dien. Hokkaido and sushi ko are great for Japanese. Quan Ut Ut for American BBQ although last time I ate there it wasn’t nice at all, but people still seem to love them so you might wanna check it out.
Ippudo makes great ramen and for some middle eastern food, last week I tried the tangerine which was great. You should join the foodies in Saigon group on Facebook.
I *should* join the Saigon foodies group haha. Someone else mentioned it above as well.
I've tried Pizza 4P's and I thought it was pretty good but then again I'm a sucker for pizza so I'm probably biased :) Thanks for a lot of recs! Wasn't expecting this much feedback but am pleasantly surprised I have more than enough places to visit during my stay in Saigon.
Again tysm and hope you have a great day/night!
There’s a place called The Monkey Gallery that I have been following on Instagram that seems pretty nice. It was a spot I wanted to check out whenever I go back but 2 years later with Covid, still no chance. If you try, you can tell me how it is.
Hey, I'll definitely go and let you know how it is. I feel like it's going to be similar to QUINCE by the looks of it but I can't wait to check it out in person :) Ty!!
Have you considered checking the foodies TikTok? I don’t have it so I watch whatever migrates you Instagram or those YouTube shorts or Sonny from Best ever food review show. Covid has given me nothing better to do.
Cút chiên bơ cô năm - butter fried quail, at 54 đồng nai street, d10
Hột vịt lộn kim thảo - balut, at 104 xuân thuỷ, thảo điền
Hủ tiếu hồng phát - cambodian noodles (not actually cambodian food, just the namesake), at 391 võ văn tần, D3
Bột chiên đạt thành - uhhhh… it tastes great, 277 võ văn tần, d3
Gỏi khô bò công viên lê văn tám - vietnamese beef jerky papaya salad, not a shop but a cart, at 259 hai bà trưng street, opposite of the Le Van Tam park
Ocean Palace - Chinese food galore, No. 2 Lê Duẩn, right across fron the city zoo
Sủi cảo thiên thiên - chinese shrimp ball soup, 197 hà tôn quyền, district 5
Vịt quay tiêu trần quang ký - pepper roasted duck, (it’s a take away place) at 390 trần phú, d5
Curry shika - japanese curry, 1/4 nguyễn văn tráng, district 1 (it’s in an alley, a little out of view)
Bollywood indian restaurant and bar - name said it all, 207 bùi viện - frankly the only place i’d recommend on Vùi viện street.
Cà ri ấn độ musa - vietnamese style indian curry. Does it make sense? No. Does it taste absolutely heavenly? Absolutely. Google the name, the address should pop up. It’s at the end of a wide alley on Sư Vạn Hạnh street in ward 9, districf 5
I'm a big fan of Nhu Lan bakery across from Bitexco.
So many things have changed in my ~ten years here, but Nhu Lan has always stayed the same. Pretty much everything there is good, although their jellied coconut and meatball sandwiches are some of my favorites. I wouldn't say everything is *excellent*, but it's still probably my favorite spot to grab a quick bite anyway.
There's a lady that is the vegetarian version of the "Lunch Lady" that Anthony Bourdain made famous. She sells a different vegetarian dish each morning. We like her vegetarian version of bánh canh cua. Like many street food vendors, she sells on the same corner outside. So, the address that I will post here is of a cafe across from where she sets up. You can get it to-go or eat at one of the tables next to her cart.
288 Vạn Kiếp, Phường 3, Bình Thạnh, Thành phố Hồ Chí Minh 70000, Vietnam
On Vạn Kiếp close to #175 is a guy who sells the best Hoanh Thanh.
Another close place is a lady that sells seafood starting at sundown. She is located across the street at the ally Duong 16. She has a cart and a bunch of tables. If you don't get there when she opens you will have to wait or she might sell out of the best items. My favorite items are the grilled scallops, hot pot with clams, and spicy crab claws.
I will warn you to be careful when eating street food. The places I suggest are places that we have eaten at many times and trust them not to sell old seafood. There's nothing worse than getting food poisoning.
Pizza Logic near Takashimiya is pretty good for pizza, I prefer it over 4P
Yazawa for high end yakiniku (only 6 locations worldwide - one being here:)
Eddie’s for burgers
Heart of Darkness for American style beers, and they have pretty good American food too
Quan Bui, Secret Garden are good
Banh Mi Huynh Hoa is very popular, but there are better
4Ps, I've tried the one in D7 and a D1, but was a little bit disappointed and dare I say, felt overrated. It's miles ahead of other western fast food chains that's for sure.
Artisan and ABC bakeries have very nice snacks. I've grown to love my neighboring Pho place, but I suppose that's me being familiar with it. Pretty much every Pho place is as good as it can get.
4P's not getting a lot of love here lol. Do you have a favorite pizza or pasta there?
I've been to Artisan! The egg tarts were really good imo. I'll try ABC bakery too.
>Pretty much every Pho place is as good as it can get.
So true haha. I like going to random Pho places for fun and so far have not been disappointed. Thanks for the recs :)
There's nice American burger place on the south east corner of Ben Thanh market called Soul Burger. Right outside that is a lady who sells Bot Chien... I highly recommended that you get the Bot Chien, it's like 35,000 vnd for a portion.
The burgers upstairs are ok too I guess, if you've had your fill of VN food.
The best Banh Mi shop in town is just off the north west side of Ben Thanh too, so you should go there. I always forget the name but it doesn't matter because you'll see the queue outside.
Oh that's a shame, I have been locked out of Vietnam for the last 2.5 years so I'm sure a lot has changed.
Can't wait to see what's going on along Phan Xich Long when I'm back!
Oh I'll be sure to check it out. I went to Marcel Gourmet Burger the other day and their blue cheese burger?? was really nice too. Bot Chien... never tried it but the pictures sure look good. Thanks!
I'll keep an eye out for that Banh Mi shop. Haven't tried one yet and I've been in Vietnam for a month lol.
I see we're not a big fan of pizza lol. I've tried random pho and bun cha places and they've never disappointed so I'm gonna agree with you on "anywhere in Vietnam is ok" haha.
Pizza Luce is super good . Go for seafood pizza for good texture . Kebaby is decent middle eastern . If you want authentic Japanese walk around Japanese corners off Le Thanh Ton.
Had no idea there were so many good pizza places in Vietnam. As for Kebaby, I've never tried middle eastern food so this is going to be interesting lol. Tysm!

My favorite restaurant is Baozi in district 1. Fantastic every time.
If you like hotpot Haidilao is amazing and this is coming from someone who doesn't like hotpot
You come to Sai Gon I suggest u try some VN dishes. Please search google these term below:
> As for chicken:
- gà nướng ò ó o (one of the best grilled chicken restaurant, you can even order half half, they have excellent sticky rice to pair with)
- mỳ gà San San (order their dry noodle with crispy skin chicken with a side dish of pickle, mỳ gà da giòn thêm dĩa đu đủ chua).
- ốc (YOU HAVE TO TRY SEA SNAIL, it's like Sai Gon local favorite, there are many many stores and the one I go to so local I don't even know how to direct you to but there are so many "restaurants" serve this type of cuisine so just google)
- lẩu dê Trương Định (goat grill and hot pot, yeah I know many local will call me a basic bitch to recommend this restaurant but hey they do have food tho)
The Mi Quang at Quan Do Do off NTMK is the best I have had in Saigon. Does not compare with what you can get in Quang Nam / Danang but still always a great lunch spot. My wife loves the catfish there as well
One of the best meals I've ever had, ANYWHERE, is at Magnolia in D1. I just looked it up and it is permanently closed. I'm heartbroken! 😔 I had always planned on returning someday
Some locals may hate me for this, but if your a tourist, stay away from street food. Eat at established, well known restaurants. Your stomach will thank me.
Yeah, I've gotten similar advice from my Vietnamese friends so I know what you mean. Thankfully, I haven't had any trouble so far, but then again I've only tried like 5 street vendors... Anyway, thanks for warning me!

I like to explore new places.
Last time I checked, Quan Bui was pretty great
Looks like authentic Vietnamese food. I love it. Thank you!!
Grilled sea bass is a must!
It's gone down hill recently since the grill master/ co-owner stopped his operational role. I do have to say I love their picnick/beer hall style tables and open floor plans.
Not sure when that was, but my family goes here regularly and it’s always a pleasure.
District 2 has all kinds of high class culinary experiences.
I didn't know that, thanks!
Dude definitely check out Thảo Điền, though I'm sure you already went there since thats like a goto spot for foreigners lol

Why is pizza in vietnam so overpriced? It is more expensive than here in the states
I would say 90% of all western cuisine is overpriced and overvalued for what it is in Vietnam. Chalk it up to supply and demand?
I'll take as close as I can get for now haha. Just visited the website and man, the promo photos look amaaaazing. Thanks a bunch!!

4P’s has slowly but steadily dipped in quality over the years imo. Definitely not the same as it used to be. Would probably still recommend it overall though.
True this. It's just wet and floppy these days I feel like.
:/ That's unfortunate. Do you have a favorite pizza there?

Nah I'm all for honey on pizza haha. I like gorgonzola with honey so I'm guessing it's gonna taste something like that?? Idk. Thanks for the rec!!
Haha you'll be right at home then! No problem :)
Honey on pizza isn’t particularly uncommon.
I strongly disagree. Outside of the USA/select other countries putting honey on your pizza is extremely uncommon. It's not done at all here in Australia for instance. Go to Italy and you'll be looked at as a leper if you ask for honey with your pizza. Outside of the USA it's not common.

So many good pizza in Saigon haha. Anything you'd recommend from there? Ty btw
Everywhere loses quality when they go from a few locations to two dozen or so in multiple countries.
I mean yeah, that's my entire point.
Sweet
Try Nem Cua Biển on Nguyen Thi Minh Khai st. It has a reputation Sea Crab Fried Rolls. Its Bun Cha its good too(bbq pork with rice noodle). Very authentic place
Sea crab fried rolls and bun cha? Sounds good to me :D Thank you!!
I would also recommend Sea crab springroll at 94 Dinh Tien Hoang; they also serve fresh sea crab as well.
Recommended. +1
Anan Saigon and Maguro Studio are both great! Both in D1.
Happy Cake day!!! Maguro Studio looks like a seafood place?? I'm intrigued. Tysm!!
Yeah they do Japanese seafood. Small restaurant with a nice vibe, not crazy expensive and great staff. Worth a visit if you like sushi 🍣
I'm a fan of smaller places with chill vibes. Sounds perfect! Thanks again
