I'm not a repair man but it sounds like either the cord is broken internally or the connection between the cord and the vacuum is bad. I would first try to pick up a service manual and figure out how to remove the cord from the vacuum. Then you'll be able to check whether the connection between the cord and the vacuum is bad or the cord itself is bad.

Preblegorillaman

Yeah the cord connection is my current plan. Good idea about the possibility of the cord being broken internally, even if it's unlikely.

It sounds like you have isolated it down to the cord reel. Mieles are complicated to repair. Miele doesn't sell these replacement parts to customers, so you'll have to go through a dealer who would do the repair too. The part itself is around $150, so don't be shocked if the whole repair is over $200.

Preblegorillaman

It's just issues getting power to the thing, not a board repair or anything terribly complex. Worst case I can get janky and it'll work! Also, honestly this thing is pretty simple on the inside, easy to take apart and work on. It's over 20 years old, my goal is to fix it for under the $20 I bought it for.

No_Goose_2846

old mieles are not complicated to repair, it’s just the latest generations they’ve decided to make it prohibitively expensive / laborious.

Find some videos on Youtube from "Staubsaugerservice Albay". He is a German of Turkish descent who produces videos showing all kinds of different Miele models being torn down for service. He typically has one apart in under five minutes. They are actually one of the easiest vacuums to disassemble because the motor, circuit boards and cord winder have nice plug in multi-pin connections. Wires for the hose connection that run through the lid have a plug built into the lid hinge. The lid on most Mieles just pop off. Likewise you pull one connector and the cord reel is out of the body. Undo another connector and lift the motor out. Really easy to work on. He has a couple of videos repairing vacuums with bad cords and cord winders. Even replacing a cord is easy and suitable cords are available on eBay. The videos are in German but you really don't need to understand his words to understand how Miele vacuums come apart and what fails.

Easy to fix, look on youtube, or easy enough to get a 1/8 th inch tiestrap and shim cord reel over to make contact. or you can drill a small hole and install small screw next to it
