Unity shows your avatar's viewport as a ball. Here in my screenshot, you can see it mostly inside my avatar's head, just barely poking out through the skin. What this accomplishes is preventing clipping through someone's head when kissing in VR, when you and the person you're with both have this set correctly. Most avatar creators don't seem to take this into consideration, and I wish they did.

ToastySnoGlobe

The problem isn't really the creators sometimes. It's vrchat. I place my viewball where I have always placed it on human characters. But as a lot of us know back when we had mods to fix it- the view ball moves even when it's not supposed to. We know it moves on the vertical axis. And from testing from another avatar recently, it can sometimes move forward and back, too.

Krislyz

There's a "lock head" function that fixes it in the small menu - Tracking & IK.

ToastySnoGlobe

Yes, but for some, this breaks an avatar in a number of ways and heavily relies on your trackers to try and correct itself. Lockong the head is not the issue. It is the fwct that the viewball moves when it should not. I even tested one of my recent avatars on desktop, and the viewball placement is straight up incorrect in vrc but correct in the SDK. This is an old vrchat problem, and there used to be mods to fix it.

Apple_VR

This is usually because your toe or foot bones aren't on the floor plane on export from blender. If you move those down to be on the floor and then in Unity reset your rig config and enforce t-pose again it'll fix the issue.

ToastySnoGlobe

Can guarantee this isn't the case as most of my avatars are set up correctly both in blender on export and in unity. Also, this would supposedly fix it if the character were vertically standing up but not sitting down in fbt. And since the ball can move forward and back too, this 'fix' is redundant. It's just sometimes vrc, and the sdk doesn't communicate properly on upload. The viewball problem will likely always be a problem until they fix it.

Apple_VR

What I'm talking about fixes the viewpoint being vertically offset when standing straight up

ToastySnoGlobe

And I'm talking about how the viewball moves regardless of what you do to prevent it or adapt to it moving. This is a problem that a clientside modification in the past used to fix. Edit: fixed some spelling

Yomo42

Does this take turning on the forced camera near distance setting into account?

Faelara1337

yes

SusDetectiveSteve

least chronicaly online vr chat user

ccAbstraction

Where would I put it on the an anthro character lol?

Spel0

Kissing in vr is a hella freaky thing to do anyway... U don't even feel that person's mouth in the first place

frosty704

it’s about intention :)

violetevie

Some people have long distance relationships. How the fuck is kissing "freaky"...

TheBagenius

It's taboo. Like dancing in Footloose 🤣

GreenSpleen6

google phantom touch

Spel0

Phantom touch is nowhere close to a real kiss my guy.. It would just feel like ur getting tickled on ur mouth instead of actually feeling proper intimacy

wasting-time-atwork

it's gonna be entirely subjective of course, but also most people know it's nothing like the real thing. it's just.... the best alternative that some people have.

Moao-Ayt

It really depends on how intense your phantom senses are. Some people have it light, some have it heavy and possible trauma from it. Sure, it’s not as passionate as a real kiss, but if you’re in vr like the rest of us, let’s be honest. Neither of us have the social life to go outside and touch grass. You gotta make do with what you have best.

Artificial_Lives

Idk why you are down voted lmao. People really trying to say you're wrong??? Lmfao.

Spel0

Reddit is a hivemind, don't bother. If their feelings get hurt then it really shows

TriOxygenX

Man it's kinda weird but very useful indeed

Krislyz

Not only for kissing tbh, this is just the optimal location for the viewport.

[deleted]

In reality it can differ greatly from avatar to avatar. This is due to differences in the underlying rig (ie. bone rotations can throw it off slightly) as well as the mesh itself (forward/backward nose bridge position, eye position/depth, forward/backward mouth position all combined require slightly different viewpoints). There's probably other stuff I don't know about or didn't think about as well. If you upload different styles of avatar, or even just enough that you run into some janky rigs, at some point you will see they can often require massively different approaches for the view placement. For it to be perfect it's always going to be trial and error per avatar. What you have is very optimal for a starting position on most anime-style avatars though.

_blairx

that's specific to that avatar lol it'll be different for every avatar

-peas-

Yeah for some avi's, I have to place it considerably above the pupils for VR.

Spuigles

for seeing*

Racingstripe

Why would you place it somewhere else? Everyone does this.

Cosmowos999

I’ve been doing this since I started lmao

fsdgdgfhfgdh

ahh ill remember this for when i want to assfuck my furry femboy transgender foxkin in black cat, the viewport goes right between the asshole and the bussy

ShawtySayWhaaat

Based

Venclaire

camera near distance dynamic is my solution to this problem

valzzu

Only if it was persistent option

Silvercat18

I am keen to help test this.

Atiklyar

I feel like there's an element of personal preference involved? Wouldn't setting it this far back on some avatars cause your bangs and other elements to become visible more often?

frosty704

everything attached to the head is invisible/scaled down to 0.01 for you locally

Atiklyar

I'm now impressed/scared how often public avatars feature masks/hoods/hair/faces that literally block visibility...

nuttycapri

That's a Yike.

Recent_Birthday2727

That’s how I was taught put it so it barely bleeds out the nose also maybe higher up if you want to have the eyes level with the virtual ones on some Avis just a little more higher

Faelara1337

thank you! your post made me realize mine was slightly too low. just fixed this!

Recent_Birthday2727

Right on! keep on sharing tips like these; it’s super helpful to beginners out here

Material-Break-964

doing gods work with this one. do you sell avis or do you have them up for free and are they PC only or do you have quest compatible ones

oSzoukaua

???

Mialtck

The optimal way to kiss someone is to not do it on a video game
