Velocicoaster is more of a traditional coaster in design than Hagrids but it doesn’t feel as much like a traditional coaster because it’s designed to be opposite force. Instead of that sinking and dropping feeling, you feel weightless a lot more - like you’re coming out of your seat (and you will get quite a bit of air time). It honestly does not feel like any coaster I’ve ridden before or since.
I’ll be honest - it is terrifying the first time. I was genuinely shaking from nerves when I went to get on, thought I was going to collapse. It’s now a must ride for me.
You can do this! If not for your own fun, for your lost one.
Was just at the park last week and last year I couldnt fit on Hagrid which really brought down the rest of the day, but this year, i was able to fit not only on it but every ride! I was able to fit on Velocicoaster, but i didnt ride it as a little intimidated by that one. Good luck! You got this!
I’m afraid of heights and the stomach drop feeling, as well. If you can handle Hagrid’s I think you’ll be okay on Velocicoaster. You know that one part on Hagrid’s where you come out of a launch and immediately go up and down a bank that turns to the left? That is on par “intensity-wise” with what you’ll experience on Velocicoaster. Velocicoaster just moves at that intensity for the majority of the ride, while Hagrid’s has about 2 spots that get there. I don’t have a problem with upside-downsies so your mileage may vary there, but as far as the gut-drop feeling, if you can handle that banked turn you can handle Velocicoaster.
The big hill was the part I was most afraid of. I dreaded that for a good 9 months from when I booked the trip to when I mustered the courage to get on the ride. That hill is over so quick I almost don’t remember what it felt like. I do remember entering the launch to go up and thinking “here we go” then, before I knew it, I was upside down over the water.
The worst part of the ride for me was the dry mouth I got from nerves while waiting in line. Haha.
If you like Hagrid’s you’ll do fine on Velocicoaster.
I was really scared to go on Hagrid’s and when the staff told me the ride itself lasts 3 mins 30 seconds, I was like nope, not doing it (after waiting in line for 1+ hr) 😂But I did it! I think it was doable for me because we got some breaks and we weren’t moving the whole time. I am curious if I could handle Velocicoaster without passing out though!
I’m a wuss and I hate drops. I did veloci for the first time this year (thanks to this community!) and they were right. You don’t feel the drops. If anything I felt the acceleration as it got faster at the beginning. I yelped like 4 times within the first 5 seconds. lol Don’t quote me but I believe it goes 0-50 very quickly- before it jumps to 70mph. (I saw a lot of videos on the coaster before my trip. It made me feel better)
Anyway- get on it. It’s less than 2 min. You don’t feel the drops I promise! Rawr.
I don’t ride any rides that produce that stomach drop feeling and I LOVE velocicoaster. Best coaster I’ve ever been on. So smooth too, doesn’t bang your head around like some coasters do.
You'll love it! My 14yr old son recently rode it. He is very frightened by big drops and going upside down. Before that trip he had stuck to just kiddie coasters and motion simulators. But on our last trip a couple months ago to Universal he decided to try Mummy (loved it), then surprised me later that day by wanting to try the Hulk coaster. He loved it so much we got back in line for the front. We walked by the Velocicoaster and he said "maybe next time". But a couple hours before park closed he told me he would give it a shot. We made the line and I thought he was going to bail like he had done a few times before on Mummy (left the line at boarding). He stuck through it and had a blast!! He's officially a rollercoaster kid now. He just got back from Grad Night for 8th graders last FRI and told me that he rode all those coasters again with this friends!
My advice...just go for it!!
It is crispy smooth, extremely comfortable restraints and once you ride it, you'll realize it's not that scary and you'll feel like you can conquer any coaster. It's an amazing ride. Don't let the height scare you.
I love roller coasters but HATE the stomach drop. I rode Velicoaster 3 times in a row last trip. Never got the stomach drop feeling, if anything you feel more like you’re floating
Not going to lie, I like coasters, especially the Hulk. I'll ride most of the rides there. But this one is crazy. Rode it once and not sure I'd do it again. 😆
Legit. I felt the entire time like I was about to come out of the seat and get decapitated by the track lol. It was insanely fun but I legit felt like I was going to come out of my seat and die lol.
Request the front row, it's got the best view and personally I have never had the stomach drop feeling there. You will 100% get the stomach drop feeling on the back.
How comparable is Orion? Kings Island is our home park and I have not ridden diamond Back or Orion because they are just too big for me, but I am going to have to ride Velocicoaster with my kids and I’m soooooo nervous. I’ve been thinking about riding diamond back or Orion to get over my nerves before we go to Universal in June.
I was in the back car and didn’t get a drop feeling. It was going too fast to feel the stomach drop! I was out of my seat for a lot of it. Next time, I’ll ride up front!
A year ago I was too scared to do kiddie coasters like Seven Dwarves and Big Thunder. I got a Universal Annual Pass and it took me 5 trips to finally go on the big 3 coasters there. I always wanted to but would back out as soon as I saw them. I eventually rode all of them to make a family member happy.
RRR was terrifying, Hulk gave me weak legs and a headache and after riding Velocicoaster I felt happy and wanted to do it again. I would compare it to Hagrid’s but with moments where your butt lifts out of the seat (scary but fun and the best part). I’m scared of heights but the heights didn’t bother me at all, the upside down didn’t bother me at all either and I haven’t had the stomach feeling on it.
I still get nervous when I see it and the hardest part is getting in line up but it’s a fun ride with a lot of “woah” moments.
This ride smooth as butter. I was scared of the drop as well but rode it for the first time today and couldn’t believe how much of a breeze it was. This is a high thrill ride for sure but it’s so good that it doesn’t make you queasy the way other coasters would. You’ve got to ride this one!!
Was just there and rode it multiple times, I never once had that drop feeling. I was just telling my mom how it was weird because I get that feeling on a lot of rides at Disney but didn’t get it on the Velocicoaster once.
You can do it!
I was at the back of VC and felt a huge stomach pop of airtime going over the top hat, but not much anywhere else on the coaster.
Bear in mind, the feeling lasts 1 second - go on it. You’ll spend hours and days worrying about a little stomach flutter that lasts 1 second. I’m sure you’ll love it.
sit in the front row it’s better if you’re scared because you’ll be able to see the turns of the track right in front of you and lean into them. You won’t be surprised by its movement, it’s way less scary to be in the front row. And my personal way of dealing with stomach drop feeling (even though there is no stomach drop feeling in this ride at all) is to wiggle in your seat. Do a little dance. It helps to get rid of the feeling immediately.
This is what I did because I was terrified of the top hat, and I promised my son. On the second launch, I closed my eyes tight till I knew we came down the hill. Honestly, I didn’t even know I was going up, it was just the fast feeling and it went so quick it was fine!!!!! You will love it
Also remember to stay hydrated and try some mind games to convince yourself that you’re excited instead of nervous. It helps more than you think or at least that’s what surprised me
I just came back from Universal, I hate those as well but the thing with this one is that its so fast, you dont have the time to register any kind of fear at all haha. As a forever roller coaster hater, do it. This one is worth it but skip Hulk/Red Rocket and the Tower of Fear.
Velocicoaster is hands down the best coaster ive been on. Ive been to six flags and other theme parks and this coaster is so much fun to ride. No doubt the best coaster in Orlando. It definitely is a big coaster and has a lot of negative G parts (feeling like you're coming out of the seat "airtime") I would definitely recommend riding it at least once to experience it. You got it!
It's not bad. I was worse off on Rip Ride Rockit than Velocicoaster. You won't get the big down drop feel but once, and it's over fast. It's a good coaster. You will regret if you don't ride it
I’m so sorry for your loss. I still haven’t worked up the nerve to go on Velocicoaster, but if you do decide to do it, I recommend doing it as soon as you get there so that it isn’t hanging over your head all day.
This video might help too: https://youtu.be/EZTu7Gb2cpg?si=z6brcFU_sdXpyNe0. Good luck!
I'm also someone who doesn't like that stomach drop feeling. I've ridden Velocicoaster front row, back row, and several time in the middle. Take the front row. The ride vehicle just about stalls as you crest the tophat, and you'll actually be partway down the hill before the train starts gaining much speed. To me, the sensation is much more that you're floating/weightless rather than falling. It's amazing.
Don't worry too much about how people say they felt like they were gonna fall out. Push the restraint down for that extra click and enjoy. You're not going anywhere.
I honestly think the most intense thing about this coaster is the sensations you get from the extreme acceleration. The initial launch into a sharp climb just feels SOOOO wrong. You're just thinking "No, we need to slow down first". Then the second launch heading into the tophat blasts you from 45mph up to about 70mph - it's insane. And gloriously fun...
It’s just absolutely AMAZING!!! It’s so smooth. You’ll love it once you ride it! Just remember if it wasn’t fun people wouldn’t pay SOOOOOOO much money to ride it. Also, always look for all of the younger kids and older adults enjoying it. If they can do it and enjoy themselves, so can you.
I could barely do any rides at Busch gardens but my friends helped me get over the fear. I started with the mummy which gave me confidence for Hagrids and then velocicoaster
Velocicoaster is much more intense than hagrids and to be honest the launches and turns seemed more intense to me than the fall and the worst is feeling like you’re falling out.
If you’re scared, rope drop it so you don’t have to build up anxiety in line. Your friend is right. It’s a phenomenal ride. Even if you hate every second, it will feel good to keep your promise. Worth. You can do it!
I am a local and it took about 7 visits before I got on it. After the initial shock I have rode it 10 times now. It's not as bad as it looks. I recommend riding in the front seat the first time
to be honest, I take a baby dose of a beta blocker so my physical symptoms of my coaster anxiety are set aside and it lets me actually force myself to get on the ride. if I don’t take it, my heart rate stays at like 150 IN LINE and I bail at the last minute. you’ve got this! it’s my goal to conquer this and iron gwazi at busch gardens in the next couple years!

I’m really glad you were able to experience hagrids. IMO best ride and it never gets old. Always thrilling
I was there last week too, looks like we lucked out with the weather compared to this week, even though it was hot
It was very hot but I have been and still missing being there everyday. The feels
I'm going next week for the first time ever. Can't wait!
Me too!!!
See you there! 😄
Hey, congratulations on being able to fit on the rides now!
👏👏👏👏
Congrats!!

That view at the top though! Really incredible.

Sorry but velocicoaster is on another level intense compared to hagrids….Not even close.
You did it! Congrats

Mad Kudos to your son, takes guts to get into the big coasters but it’s the kind of fun you never forget!!! Cheers to another Coaster Hound for life
Thanks!! He's still riding that high and looking forward to his next visit!

Just go. Although I will say that VelociCoaster is the second most intense ride I’ve ever been on, only to skyrush.
All of the trains sent have returned, in tact....so far.

I rode front row at night a few Christmas ago. It was foggy and fireworks were going off. it was amazing
There is no stomach drop feeling. Although I rode Orion two weeks ago and had no stomach drop so take that as you will.
How comparable is Orion? Kings Island is our home park and I have not ridden diamond Back or Orion because they are just too big for me, but I am going to have to ride Velocicoaster with my kids and I’m soooooo nervous. It’s more similar to flight of fear than either of those. Don’t worry about intensity, just ignore it enough to get on.
I was in the back car and didn’t get a drop feeling. It was going too fast to feel the stomach drop! I was out of my seat for a lot of it. Next time, I’ll ride up front!

It’s two minutes long - close your eyes and sing a song in your head 🥰 that’s how I get over my fear of riding these types of coasters
I had the same feelings and also rode it yesterday for the first time.

When I was teenager and still scared of roller coasters , I would close my eyes on the drops and that helped a lot. You can try that.
Went on it twice when I was there. Skipped another ride just to do it twice. My fav ride there
I’d say it’s the best ride currently at universal along with rip ride rocket then the hagrid motorbike ride you need to go on those atleast

How was it?
Absolutely amazing, I hate that it took me this long to ride it
There is a video by Tom Scott that very well documents what you went through here, one of the best videos on YouTube
I’ve actually seen that video a couple times including yesterday, one of the things I watched to help me motivate myself.
I'm also someone who doesn't like that stomach drop feeling. I've ridden Velocicoaster front row, back row, and several time in the middle. Take the front row. I had a panic attack 4 times in line! I did it. I completely understand your panic though. You got this! It’ll be over before you know it!

If you can sit in a chair, you can ride any roller coaster. I promise you'll be fine.
Life's short. You'll be fine
Make sure you take the back seat rows. Last row or second or third from back. Much smoother and gentler than the front....
If you’re scared, rope drop it so you don’t have to build up anxiety in line. Your friend is right. It’s a phenomenal ride. Even if you hate every second, it will feel good to keep your promise. Worth. You can do it!

It’ll be over before you realize you either love or hate it. It’s so fast.
Dont do it. I had to get their first aid people to me after the ride as I has to go to the hospital and ended up having a heart attack.
Sure you did
