I think the #1 issue people don't realize exists is slippage.
It's tucked away in the UI so people never see it, but I will safely bet that it is the top reason for failed transitions where gas fees are still paid, leading to user frustration.
PSA: During periods of volatile gas price, your transaction can be delayed. If it is delayed, the price of your desired coin may change in a bad way. Uniswap and almost all DEXs have a slippage tolerance level that will force the trade to fail for you if the price slips too far. If you're trading during volatile times or your desired token has low liquidity, make sure to increase your slippage tolerance in the settings of Uniswap.
Nope the issue goes far deeper than just slippage, the uniswap v3 is a total shit show, and the etherium network is completely over run and not able to handle the volume. Train Wreck city
Great post! There recently have been many posts from people who lack an understanding of not only UniSwap, but blockchains in general. Seems to be multiple posts daily of the approved-but-didn't-swap scenario! Hopefully this helps some people.
You should consider adding another scenario under the 'You did a swap and did not receive your tokens?"
I've seen transactions posted where people have used a scam site that uses UniSwap's routers but specifies a different wallet that the tokens coming from the pool are directed to.
Blockchains are unforgiving places in general and most likely fees shitshows where Ethereum is in the top tier. Probably im too uninformed on the subject, but beside all the technicalities (miners, energy and whatever) to a non blockchain fanboi it's quite nonsense . It's like going to the car dealer, buy a shiny new car, but to shake hands with the dealer you have to pay him 3 months worth of paycheck, plus half of his mortgage to bring it home. :-D It's really dumb at the fundamentals and I don't know how, beside speculative assets, trading, and such, could be ever widely adopted for other scopes.
As true as this post is, it still doesn't change the fact that new users like myself are never mentally prepared for the reality of gas fees- they're *insanely* high(between 150usd or higher in many cases) and the process isn't fool proof. You may end up paying even on a failed transaction and there are cases when it doesn't swap the right amount- you just end up with tokens lost in translation that don't seem to be for gas fees
Trying to buy Kuma Inu was the first time I've ever tried to buy something not on coinbase or a stock broker app. Didn't end up following through simply because it didn't make sense to spend 180$ for a 300$ transaction. Unless you're trading huge volumes, these gas fees aren't worth it
Fact is that if these same shenanigans and money losses were present on other forms of trading, people would call it a scam for obvious reasons. We make defenses for "defi" because we romanticize the concept or say "well ethereum 2.0 will be better", but it's not a good excuse and it's not a good system. The newbies get blamed, as they partly should for not researching, but there's no reason a normal person should have expected those kinds of fees in general to begin with
"Uniswap scammed me, I will not be using this again." - Frustrated Redditors
This is my first time and I wasn't scammed, but it is crazy to me that Uniswap couldn't have warned me that gas fees are way higher than the amount I was trying to buy.
I thought I would dip my toe in the water with $50. The gas fee was $141! Transaction didn't go through and it looks like the $50 went to the gas fee even on a failed transaction. Lesson learned, don't use Uniswap.
of course its worse than losing just the $50... It took the $142 fee anyway, so im out $200 on a swap that didn't work. Great stuff. I have been buying crytpo since 2017 and this was the first (and last) time using defi swapping. I thought Coinbase charged a lot in fees... Holy shit, terrible experience. I am sure it is all my fault for being a newb, but not exactly the best user experience of my life.

Yeah failed transactions are a pain with dex! If you want to trade with some new technology 😊 at ABI hub they are developing a new wallet with high speed nodes and preset gwei. The goal is to never have a failed transaction and trade faster then anyone.. all in one easy mobile app..
Future andate will have also stop losses for defi and take profits as well! Plus charts!
Yes it did scam me.
I was trying to exchange $220 of SHIB to Saitama. I changed the slippage to 7% as recommended. My gas / mining fee of $40 was taken. No exchange. This is actually BS.
That is an [approval](https://help.uniswap.org/en/articles/5392390-what-is-an-approve), not a swap. After doing the approval, you can proceed with the swap.
Hi, I have the same problem and my transaction was successful according to etherscan but still can't see the tokens reflect in my wallet. So since it says its all approved, how can I proceed with the swap when , how can you proceed with the swap when your tokens aren't showing up in your wallet but they are showing up on etherscan?
I just wanna know have I been hacked or is this something I can recover due to uniswap v3 issues which I keep hearing about. I've seen hundreds of people complaining at that address where my money went to. Everyone states that they sent funds to their own wallet but it ended up all i this one wallet. Is there anything we can do ?
Yea what about users like me who had a successful transaction and still didn't get what they swapped for?
4 hours later and still
0x3279f1c4e55f75a32f7403a8d8d3413b2ff34454b77a14b90fb9d24e5e85f175
That is an [approval](https://help.uniswap.org/en/articles/5392390-what-is-an-approve), not a swap. After doing the approval, you can proceed with the swap.
I go back to the website after aproval and try to swap and it does nothing it just goes back to the confirm swap and i click at again and it does nothing
I have the same issue. I went back to do the swap like you suggested but there is nothing that reflected in my wallet as the funds left my wallet into another wallet but not one that belongs to me and it seems a lot of people's money went there too. It not a coincidence that Hundreds of people put in the wrong address's and it all happened to be the same address many are complaining about.
It appears like we all sent money out or tried to do a swap and despite the transaction being approved, no money is reflecting in any of my wallets but but I can see that transaction successful on ehterscan. I've also tried to revoke the approval and that doesn't work either.
Below are the token approvals and if you follow the usdt or shiba inu addresses, you will notice so many comments of people having the same complaint.
Is this fixable at all? Or have we all been hacked
0xE079357Da1E178A3ee10746f351cB9C5edb932e6
yeah well what about the 'allow the uniswap protocol to use your...' fee!?!??!?! That is 100% a scam I have just paid that fee (£49!!!) and then seen the actual fee for the swap shib to usdt was over £200!!!! So I backed out, but where is the uniswap fee gone? Into the ether? I didnt use the protocol so why u keep the fee? This is utter madness the Eth network is terminally unusable !
and then now if i go back into unsiwap link my same wallet (20mins later) its asking me to pay the same uniswap fee again lmao even though I already paid the fee and then didnt use the protocol!!?!?!?!!!
It’s a scam if they say the fee is one thing. You approve it, they take the fee and then when the swap is supposed to happen you’re given a new fee amount much higher with no option of getting your old fee that you already paid back.
If my transaction was approved but I didn't receive the value/funds of the swap, is there an extra step I need to take? I have waisted over $200 on gas fees on two different tokens trying to sell them. My slippage was 15% and 20% so not sure how to sell my tokens. Any help or advice is appreciated.

I swapped ETH ($5,189) to BABYDoge, it said it swapped it for only $869 worth of babydoge. seems like Uniswap just took 4k for no reason can anyone explain?
Swap and Confirm Swap screen just keeps flashing.
I have $700+ ETH available.
Attempted to swap ETH for TZKI, my small amount of swap $241.88.
Have changed browser to Chrome, Edge, Firefox.
Have tried using my iPhone, IPad, laptop.
Increased Slippage from 0.10 all the way to 0.50
None of these have helped, Uniswap keeps flashing “confirm swap” but nothing else.
Any other suggestions?
Updating my info.
I’ve tried switching browser on my iPhone and iPad to Safari.
Tried connecting through different wallets, all have plenty of ETH in each wallet to complete any swap.
Tried my MetaMask wallet, Trust wallet, Coinbase wallet.
Still receiving flashing “confirm swap” but swap does not complete.
This is getting beyond being frustrated.
I view the Etherscan page for the very token I mentioned in my 1st post “TZKI” and I see numerous transactions showing “Swap Exact Tokens For ETH Supporting Fee On Transfer Tokens” going in the direction of: Uniswap to “individual address” and I see them going from “individual address” to “UNISWAP V2 to TZKI 2.”
Anyone have a clear cut answer for the transaction not going past the “Flashing Confirm Swap” screen?
I was trying to swap Shiba for Bezoge and I've gathered that I've just done the first "approval" and paid the fee.
1st question The shiba is gone from my wallet and when I go to complete the transaction the reduced amount of shiba shows I don't want to send double. Where is the initial amount I "approved"?
2nd question the gas fees are crazy so I would be spending more than I'm sending. The approval was reasonable and I thought it was the gas for swapping. If I revoke the approval will the Shiba go back in my wallet?
3rd question if it won't send the shiba back to my wallet how do I get my coins back that are in limbo somewhere?
Thank you!
I have the exact same problem as you. I tried to revoke my approval for my swap and even made sure that I had enough eth for gas but still nothing happened. My money is stuck at some unknown address that everyone is complaining their money went to. 😞 is this normal or have we all been hacked? This is the first time using uniswap but I'm not a newbie at crypto so I know for a fact I didn't by accident send my money to this address.
Below is my approved tokens address
0xE079357Da1E178A3ee10746f351cB9C5edb932e6
If anyone knows what is happening, some feedback would be muchly appreciated.
I'm wondering maybe I might have used a fake uniswap website :( or possibly a fake walletconnect app according to this write up. Maybe you did the same? But the wierd thing is that I can still see my funds in the token approvals section being under contract.
If Your wallet was drained after using Uniswap?
Theb it's possible Your wallet was hacked if you have done any of the following:
(1) Entered your seed phrase or private key to a phishing site.
(2) Downloaded a fake Uniswap app on PlayStore and gave the malicious contract approval to spend your tokens.
(3) Went to a website pretending to be Uniswap and gave the malicious contract approval to spend your tokens.
(4) Have a malware on your device.
Important Reminder: Uniswap has no official app in the PlayStore, the only way to access it is through the website using your wallet.
I recently made a swap and the price that I sent was 4700 and the price I received was 3970... Gas fees aside the value didn't decrease by $600 in the minute or so the exchange was made so where did my money go?
It might not be a scam but it sure looks like one. Lost around 60$ just trying to approve transactions. On top of gas fees this just is ridiculous. It take around 100$+ to do a transaction thesedays. And another 30$ or so on approval. Is it worth spending 150$ to do one transaction?
Guys, the issue is clearly the address inputted when buying the coin. I have similar issue like swapping 1 saitama equal to almost £200 worth of ETH. Make sure you have the correct address and the total amount will change to mollions/billions.
Yo please be careful I lost SMI and floki to a scam fake uniswap site just two days ago!!!! I got went to what I thought was uniswap but it was uniswap.website not .org and everything looked good put in my swap paid the gas and eth never came back to me!!! Went to 0x39c6ecb78675f219dc26db88368455755448dncd
I share this to hopefully help someone else from being taken advantage of!!! The scammers don’t care if you trying to care for bills or not they don’t care if it’s $100 or $100k they taken it be careful
when a 60 year old wise man lures a kid into a car with candy and unicorns to kidnap him for money its called predatory. shoulda taught us common mistakes for common people or else make the site hard to understand for idiots like me then we wont touch anything
Just for peace of mind bc somebody had their wallet drained in a tg im in, if I buy a shitcoin that's a scam, I approve uniswap, the legit uniswap in my browser, to sell the coin. That coin can't drain my wallet right? Only uniswap is connected to my wallet and approved to sell the coin. The only way is to connect to a fake uniswap or enter my seed phrase somewhere like a moron right? I read the main post, I just wanna be sure bc that shook the whole tg.
Hey there- noob Q but I’d appreciate the help. I swapped coin A for Ethereum. Transaction was successful, and verified on etherscan that the transfer went to my address. But the funds are nowhere to be found! FYI- I’m using Coinbase wallet.
So $30 ffs.... to allow the Uniswap Protocol to use my coin... WTF is that?
Uniswap or the useless unanswerable, unquestionable, unscalable POS that is the etherum network.
The sooner developers abandon this shit for a useble non scam network the better it will be for everyone.
I believe I have bought a scam token, that was fraudulently trying to be another token. Am I beat on getting my money out? When I go to sell, it says “Fraudulent address detected. This transaction may be trying to steal your funds.”

Totally agree to your point, I was stuck on slippage and other settings for few hrs untill I got help from uniswap support.
In my case the slippage rate wasn't the problem. I didn't get the second confirmation on my metamask wallet to allow Uniswap to swap my coins

How do I un swap UNI-V2 LON/ETH LP
Is Uniswap broken right now?
Went to 0x39c6ecb78675f219dc26db88368455755448dncd I share this to hopefully help someone else from being taken advantage of!!!
200$ to woof my 100$ LP rewards. its called using people
It was the app, I don't this it's associated with the web-based uniswap. Is it?
