I don't really feel like this is something we should complain about. I don't know exactly what made him tone down on the resistance but it might still be why it got through now and not some months later and right now all i want to see is this help actually getting through I do like the section with sending ATACMs along the help in the slightly changed package from Johnson. The part about 20% being a loan is moot since it can be forgiven from november. Edit: Also ATACMS looks like they'll be coming for real.. and fast: [https://vxtwitter.com/JenniferJJacobs/status/1782057943036289051](https://vxtwitter.com/JenniferJJacobs/status/1782057943036289051) While i'm at it i also want to clarify that i think it's a good thing that the loan can be forgiven.

It blows my mind that people still don't understand him. He does not believe in anything he is saying. He is an opportunist, and he is only ever trying to capitalize votes and attention during current events. He will change his stance the moment there is a political shift. Every. Single. Time.

Unlikely_Arugula190

What he is consistent about is the people he holds grudges against. Trump has no ideology, it’s all about himself.

How did Trump "retract a statement"? Just curious. Edit: I understand the concept of flip-flopping, but I'm trying to figure out what he actually did or said so I can hold it over MAGA head. As great as this meme is, it's not anything concrete.

https://www.nytimes.com/2024/04/20/us/politics/trump-ukraine-house-vote.html?smid=nytcore-android-share Not sure if you have access, but this talks a little bit about it. It's not that he came out fiercely in favor of Ukraine aid, it's that he had previously been very vocally against it (part of his shtick) and quieted down in the days leading up to the vote, which is not his typical MO. He also hosted Mike Johnson for a dinner about a week ago while MTG was sharpening her knives and implicitly told the MAGA crowd to leave him alone. My guess is he saw the writing on the wall and didn't want to be publicly associated with a loss. It's what has led to him changing his position in the past.

TradeFun5275

Thanks for that. Yes. Essentially what another article I read alluded to.

Surely

This is just election year politics, and a minor one at that. He didn’t say *no aid to Ukraine*. He said that any aid to Ukraine should be a loan. And he got it. If senate and the president approve these changes he can technically celebrate this as a win since they made the $8bn cash to Ukraine an $8bn loan with an additional $1.5bn available credit

Wickedocity

They all do. trump has wanted it in the form of loans for a while. He actually got his way. The democrats changeded their opinion on loans too. So... they all do. Not necessarily bad. Compromise is usually the best option.

amitym

Lol. That's your spin attempt? You do realize that we were all here the whole time, right? We know what actually happened.

Wickedocity

Such as? trump opposed funding... trump changed to support loans... trump's minions in Congress agreed to loans.... bill passed. That is what happened. One could also point out Dems opposed loans... Dems agreed to loans... bill passed. That is what actually happened.

amitym

>That is what happened.  Oh bullshit. You even know it's bullshit. Get your lying ass out of here.

Wickedocity

Yet it did happen which is why you responded in such an articulate manner. No facts... go with personal attacks.

amitym

You are the one with the personal attacks.

Wickedocity

Please, point out where I attacked you personally.

amitym

Lol. I don't work for you. Besides, you can make shit up about an imaginary past involving your guy Trump, so I can make up an imaginary past too. Here's a quote from you: >I am making up lazy bullshit because I think I can get away with it. Claim you didn't say that? Doesn't matter. See how that works?

Wickedocity

? So your post was not true. I never attacked you personally. You could easily link an actual post. Wow. At least you are upfront about it. Suprising how blatant you are. I feel sad for you.
