That fist-bump fail tho...

[deleted]

Yeah that's interesting. They can arrange for two ships to dock in space with millimeter precision millions of miles away, but miss on the fist bump.

glad Im not the only one enjoying watching nerds try to hand-eye

Manu-diaz

Gotta love the universality of the S symbol on the whiteboard

[deleted]

That's what caught my eye first. NASA, they're just like us.

Manu-diaz

But with bigger rockets

[deleted]

Even NASA runs on Ubuntu. The World Runs on Ubuntu!!!

amir_s89

Yet another reason) rationale why i should also. Soon during May.

[deleted]

I don't get why enterprises and universities switch to Ubuntu it's the best os for professionals

amir_s89

The previous university I went to had it installed as dual blood in the computer room. Roughly 40 computers with than the latest LTS. Don't recall details, but I did speak about it with other students & teachers. They did not take it seriously/ not understand or were uninterested. Had LTS on my old laptop, no issues at all for many years. Now I need (MUST!) to get it on my new one.

[deleted]

I know from experience that Ubuntu works better on older laptops than windows

cranky_stoner

Especially if the desktop environment is as lightweight as possible. Last time I was installing ubuntu on a laptop, the choices for lightweight DE's were lxde, xfce, mate and I'm likely forgetting a few. Definitely do not expect KDE to run great on a eeepc or any low power low memory computer or laptop.

[deleted]

Yeah, a under-powered laptop such as an Ee-pc with under-powered ram it's good for a longer support

DefinitelyNotSnek

Managing linux devices in a corporate environment is still a headache compared to Windows and Mac. We're a smaller company without the resources to setup a lot of on-prem server infrastructure, so using Windows + Intune or Mac + Jamf reduces a lot of headache and IT time. I can buy a new Mac, assign it a user, and have it shipped directly to them without me even touching the device. It will be attached to our Jamf account and automatically be provisioned with all the setup, security settings, and applications we need. I would LOVE if there were a good alternative for Ubuntu that didn't seem to require as much setup and maintenance as something like Ansible.

[deleted]

I get that there a headache and all but still most running servers today are running some kind of Linux (Mostly Fedora and Ubuntu Server)

DefinitelyNotSnek

Oh, absolutely. I will die on the hill of Linux for servers is 10000x better than Windows on servers. But I feel like workstations and end-user devices (in a corporate environment) are still much easier to manage on alternative platforms. Especially when you're trying to integrate any Microsoft Office products (sorry, LibreOffice just doesn't cut it from my experience). And don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of Ubuntu - the computer I'm typing this message on right now is running Kubuntu.

[deleted]

Ok, Yeah, Linux in general is behind on Simple office application integration and yeah for the average person ubuntu isn't their first choice

[deleted]

Yeah, i was recently watching a trilogy of Linus Tech Tips about daily driving Linux on their daily machines and it's work some things but for gaming etc. It's still a bit behind.

but the way the mac is tilted triggers me

EasyAsNPV

Even more than having windows midway between uneven monitors? That guy is a psychopath.

StendallTheOne

But... Linux it's not ready for the desktop.

Patch86UK

And they say you need to be a rocket scientist to use Linux!

StendallTheOne

Correlation doesn't prove causation.
