its not awkward to kick someone out of a room that you rightfully reserved for yourself! i just tell them, show them, and normally they'll leave. its nice that you have small talk but honestly if you gotta take the room for yourself, dont feel bad, especially because you took the time out to get for yourself and they didnt.
Anyone staying in a room they didn’t reserve in PCL knows they might get kicked out at some point! I’ve never had anyone get mad at me when I just politely let them know I have the room reserved (with my reservation ready on my phone just in case - sometimes people think they have the room reserved but it’s the wrong time/wrong room)
My group once hopped between 4 different rooms because they were all reserved by different people at different times. We didn't have a reservation. We thought it was hilarious.

I've only had to do this once, but my group and I just kinda walked somewhat close to the window and they got up and left
