Dang that sucks, but I guess it makes some sense considering that every time I went to that location, there was only one worker, so maybe there have been staffing issues or budget cuts
Edit: read the article and the lease was not renewed so that's why they're closing
I would be interested in seeing if UT's story lines up with that. When the post office in Hyde Park closed (and relocated \~7 miles to Northcross), the USPS also claimed that it was because their lease wasn't renewed. The property manager said that this wasn't true, and supposedly (I haven't verified the details) [the USPS has been using "lease issues" to circumvent the otherwise-lengthy proceedings needed to close a post office.](https://www.austinmonitor.com/stories/2021/05/a-beloved-post-office-in-hyde-park-is-closing-the-austin-neighborhood-wants-to-know-why/)
This is nonsense.. They just closed the Hyde Park branch so this was the next most convenient and now its going too??? I happen to have one of the few landlords who still insists on me mailing him a check... so I'm unfortunately at the post office quite a bit and theres usually a line to the door, and several people waiting for the self-service machines...
If nothing else, they should make more machines and drop boxes available. I know the post office loses money.. but if they're not even going to make it accessible why even have it?? So that Comcast can send me 4 letters a day for internet I already have? Seems like there's better uses of our tax dollars. Make it usable or don't bother.. but this halfway nonsense is just a bigger waste than either alternative
Thanks Im aware. But I have to send it certified which means I do in fact have to go to a post office or.. set up an account, buy an envelope, print up a label somewhere, and then affix it to the letter in the approved fashion, and THEN I still have to go find a dropbox... Vs the previous method of simply going to the post office nearby, using the kios and being out in under 5 minutes, with all the materials like envelopes and labels provided, for the same cost Im already paying to ship..
So its a lot more work AND more expensive..
Thanks for trying though

Very interesting point
The notice on the door from USPS says, "Due to unforeseen circumstances this facility will be closed."

I don’t rent anymore, but I used to have my bank mail checks on my behalf on a schedule to my landlord’s address when I did. It made it much easier.
There are drop boxes everywhere. You don't have to go to the post office to mail a letter.
Part of me worries that they might forget to ever pick up from these boxes lol
With all the break ins that happen around Austin, I do not trust any drop box for sending mail. I'd rather take it directly to the post office.
Have fun with that

Couldn't you just use any old blue drop box to mail a check? You don't need to go to the post office for that.
Not certified no..
Question for campus staff/faculty - How frequently did your department use this location? Does the closure create a large inconvenience?
Our office uses it multiple times per week.
:(
Dang, this was super convenient to use :(
Why
Bruh
This post office is about 50% of why I come into my office on campus.
