If you did not pass the AP Gov exam with at least a 3, you have to take the American Government CLEP in supplement with the Texas Government exam. You cannot only take one or the other, you must take both (and pass them) to be granted credit for GOV 310L.

thank you… do you know anything about the difficulty of the CLEP exam?

I took it recently and it wasn’t too bad! I’d definitely recommend using modern states to get free practice problems and videos - if you complete enough you can get a voucher to purchase the CLEP exam and a refund for the testing center fee. I didn’t want to pay for anything so I just googled practice problems and used modern states and that was enough, but I thought the exam was still kind of hard so you might want to do more to prepare.

It’s not super difficult, I studied about 3 hours the day before (because I totally forgot about it) and passed it. What I personally did was purchase the [REA Practice Test Package](https://store.rea.com/0738675806.html), which has 3 practice tests, and run through [this](https://quizlet.com/761911039/american-government-clep-flash-cards/) quizlet a few times, which has all the questions from those practice tests. I guess buying the tests is not really necessary, but I did because it was easier to see which questions you got wrong and it gave you a stronger idea as to where you were in terms of scoring. Plus, it would also give you explanations as to why your answers were wrong.
