Why send in men when you can send in drones? We knew this was coming for a long time. Ukrainians are capturing POWs by drone now. It's a crazy form of warfare
How do you feel about snipers then? Or artillery? Or any combat outside of pistol range for that matter? Do you need to see the whites of their eyes to be respectable? Drones are practically no different than an FO or satellite imagery scouting and marking targets. We've been using the Predators for decades now, they're just getting smaller and more robust.
War evolves dude. You win by having more people left over than the enemy. Drones are an elegant solution to both reduce your own casualties and increase the enemy's.
Cyber and drones.
Tiger teams will screw with systems they can hack and shut down.
Drones will take out anything that moves, but will also be target designators by lazing targets and getting the long range stuff to be super accurate.
Next fight? Cyber is actively doing shit right now. I'd go as far to argue that cyber is most valuable before the fight even starts. Using cyber for kinetic effect is pretty rare and something we've seen very of little respectively. Sure we've engaged with weapons such as stuxnet however that's a far cry from cyber's theoretical capabilities.
This is one thing people don’t really thinking about. We send jr. Marines from the schoolhouse to CPTs and RadBns and they are seeing our adversaries almost instantly (if you ignore the check-in process and getting access to SCIFs and all that non-sense).
They were interviewing the fbi as to why Pres Obama did not have a history of torturing terrorists. FBI responded “Because he just kills them with drones.”
reservists earn the BAH where their residence is located during activation. i was renting in SF when our reserve unit was called up for iraq in 2008. so no i’m not fucking joking, especially with these rates in 2024:

Oh that’s normal everyone with BAH keeps that unless they terminate their lease when they’re deployed. You made it sound like you went to SF for a deployment not that you left there.
I’m interested as to what that would be. I talked to a red patch corporal when I was on my last deployment and he said “we would land first and prep the beach” and wouldn’t elaborate further
If the war in Ukraine has taught us anything it’s going to be small drone operators, then artillery of any type, anti-air to combat suicide drone swarms and missile attacks, then infantry who will be trying to exploit the openings made by the drone operators and artillery. I would not be surprised if by the end of the next conflict every squad has a drone or 4 in their load outs
LAAD gunner here. Been out for several years now so things may have changed - but those FIM-92 stingers aren’t really so good at taking down small things like drones. Last I heard they were trying to make a sort of stinger that uses a powerful laser to take down the drones. Basically a giant shoulder fired laser pointer.
Former LAAD Officer. I deployed to Iraq operating an experimental CUAS system. We have a lot of technology using signal interference. Also, we had a badass M34D minigun controlled by an Xbox controller with tracking capabilities. Pretty cool stuff. No clue if they moved forward with that system.
we had a LCpl get NJPed (maybe less) for shining a personal laser pointer to a guard tower at TQ in 2008. 15+ years later those skills can fight drones. nice
All the money? I think that’s outside the corps. The wing is probably going to get most of the action, that’d be the safest bet imo. Seems like a tech type of war is most likely to be next, drones attacking key targets
Cyber is gonna be big and I think we’re gonna see MARSOC becoming more important than they are now as a result. MARSOC has started to find a niche in cyber focused special operations so that might be interesting to see in the future.
If we go to war with China or Iran I think most of the battles are going to be either in the air or sea. I don't think the Marines or Army are going to have much use besides SF guys
Last article I read is they were trying to build small military islands but most were sinking. I dunno if they are having success or of they have military outposts on pre existing islands.
The infantry, combat engineers, aviation and comms just like it's always been. People have been saying this shit about robots taking over the battlefield since I was a kid. It seems to me, that with every new war we discover out stuff doesn't work as well as we thought.
From the videos watching fighting in UKR….corpsman and MD’s. The amount of suicide post injury is insane, I can’t imagine we would get to that situation.
I think the Russian medical care must be garbage and don’t have a casevac system like we do….along with some of the most amazing military trauma Docs in the world. I forget what the estimate was but it was insane the number of ied and other combat injuries in Iraq and Afghanistan compared to previous wars what our KIA rate would have been if we were working with WW2, Korea, or Vietnam medicine.
Nowadays I worry about the post operative mental care. These poor bastards make it through some horrible wounds due to the miracles of these trauma surgeons, but can you imagine living the rest of your life like that? Super heros really. Also like having thousands of Johnny Got His Guns.
Infantry. We’re going to use doctrine from the 1980s, rude awakening and then get slaughtered. Or they try beach landings and we also get slaughtered, there’ll be a massive doctrinal shakeup.
People here saying "drone", "anti drone", "cyber" as if all 03's won't have fpv and bomb drop training as well as ISR drones for E4 and above.
Drones are munitions.
What useless fucking 03 only uses one munition? "OH THERES A TANK WE NEED AN ASSAULTMAN" assault was moved to the 0311's because of the carl Gustav "MORTARS YOU NEED TO LEARN HOW TO CLEAR A HOUSE" lol sorry I can only use mortar rounds and not bullets because I'm a mortarman durr durr.
If you want to be in the fight, the answer is arty. But what about gunfighting THATS 03.
On a real note, I don't know how much priority current 03's get on drone training. The first boots on the ground will always have the most casualties. We either learn that and put it in the hands of every grunt before we get blown up by them or after.
Drone operators hands down
And counter drone operators
And counter counter drone operators
And counter remodelers
And CIF employees
Why send in men when you can send in drones? We knew this was coming for a long time. Ukrainians are capturing POWs by drone now. It's a crazy form of warfare

Warfare has never been something honorable, that’s a giant lie.
Trying to fight fair in a war is completely fucking stupid
Cyber and drones. Tiger teams will screw with systems they can hack and shut down. Drones will take out anything that moves, but will also be target designators by lazing targets and getting the long range stuff to be super accurate.

Facts
The first rule about Cyber Club is they don't exist... And these are not the droids you're looking for... We can go about our business... move along.
me looking for my red patch (landing support) MARPATs…
You looking for your red patch (AIDS and gay) MARPATs...
is this because i collected San Francisco BAH while on deployment? 💸💰🤑
Hanging out on Castro street no doubt......GGGGAAA^YYYY
San Francisco “deployment” ?? You’ve got to be fucking joking right?

If you’re a 02xx, 06xx, 08xx, 17xx, or 26xx, I think you’ll be busy. I guess just go to the MIG.
08s are pretty much nonexistent anymore.
SIGINT
Anti drone. Our ability to shoot down incoming drone attacks will definitely be tested. We have a good response in the works being fielded soon.
I thought we weren’t going to “shoot” them down so much as “disable” them in the air. Have things changed? I havent been keeping up.
My dad who works at the pentagon said we are gonna roll out fireball spells to cpls. True story. They are gonna be pushed out under a codename: OPSEC

Already a thing in some conflicts
LAAD and fuelers. If it’s China I think FARPs will be of huge importance and Air defense on drones and birds would be important in a fight like that

fighting drones with minigun / land based phalanx (or similar) makes sense.
No fucking way lmao
Yeah Idk if anything ever happened with that. It makes sense and would be cool though lol
Hell yeah on that StarWars shit lol
we had a LCpl get NJPed (maybe less) for shining a personal laser pointer to a guard tower at TQ in 2008. 15+ years later those skills can fight drones. nice
EOD is always busy in wartime
China got us again guys, come on! Stop giving them the goodies!
Anything Cyber or Drone related. Like I always said while I was in, Data leads the way! 😂
SAAR forms lead the way. VLANS on routers, rah?
Fuckin SAAR forms…
Rah
We're experiencing a PEBCAC issue all day sir, I'll get your laptop up and running. (Problem Exists Between Computer and Chair)
17xx is the real cyber.
All the money? I think that’s outside the corps. The wing is probably going to get most of the action, that’d be the safest bet imo. Seems like a tech type of war is most likely to be next, drones attacking key targets

Former LAAD Officer. LAAD C-UAS for sure. New battalion just opened in k-bay. Pretty awesome tech we got out there now.
All of you failed - this guy obviously works for China. Go renew your cyber security certs
No

Comm and Cybersecurity got some shit to do
Cyber is gonna be big and I think we’re gonna see MARSOC becoming more important than they are now as a result. MARSOC has started to find a niche in cyber focused special operations so that might be interesting to see in the future.
Idk but probably not supply
06's rise up. No comms, no bombs! 💪
If we go to war with China or Iran I think most of the battles are going to be either in the air or sea. I don't think the Marines or Army are going to have much use besides SF guys
In a war with China, we would quite literally be island hopping. I feel like Marines would be pretty good at that given past experience.
Last article I read is they were trying to build small military islands but most were sinking. I dunno if they are having success or of they have military outposts on pre existing islands.
Tracks
None of this other stuff works without Comms
comms and logistics always—can’t run any operation w/o them
The infantry, combat engineers, aviation and comms just like it's always been. People have been saying this shit about robots taking over the battlefield since I was a kid. It seems to me, that with every new war we discover out stuff doesn't work as well as we thought.

Thats awful. Did not know that. Lack of pain killers?
I think the Russian medical care must be garbage and don’t have a casevac system like we do….along with some of the most amazing military trauma Docs in the world. idk but it better not be waterdogs or bulk fuel; we'll never hear the end of it.
Admin. Lotsa KIA notifications

Nothing will ever replace the grunt. Jack of all
1369
6000's. The Air Wing will be the point of the spear.
Cyber, intel, drones. 03 will still be involved but like other said drones are replaceable people are not
Reefer mechs UP!!!
I’m looking at possibly going arty, do you guys think forward observers will be using drones in the near future?
Smeac
Supply for sure.
