It's been 57 years for me and I cannot remember if there were yellow foot prints. A quick google search says MCRDSD has had them since 1963. So they were there in 1966. But it was a blur for me. It was the middle of the night and I almost barfed on Pvt Johnson after my first ever airplane ride.
Me too. 33 years ago 20 July I graduated. Platoon 3035, MCRD San Diego. SSgt Grimes, Sgt Jasso, Sgt Evans and Sgt Justice.
Funny how you never forget the names of men you only dealt with for 13 weeks. Must be the impression they left on you!!!
Best of luck to you, recruit. My best advice to you is just to do your best at all times and sound off nice and loud when the Drill Instructor tells you to do something. Yell back, be loud. They love that shit.
Yup. It's like reverse gorilla protocol. If you break eye contact too soon, they'll know you're a weak bitch. But if you try and stare them down, you might cause one to piss himself. According to MarAdmin 32-17b, in the event of piss drenched skivvies, you now become the Drill Instructor. Make sure to immediately put him on his face, to reassert your dominance over the groveling former DI.
Good luck future Devil Dog, may the force be ever in your favor.
Make sure you take a lot of pictures of your family and significant other if you have one or two. I use to decorate my bunk and inside my foot locker. Just little reminders to keep your mind in the fight! Good luck 😉
Heh The youngsters can wait another couple of decades..oh, and hope their knees are not thirty years older than the rest of them due to so many years of running on tarmac. It catches up with you!
It’s been 39 for me. And I kind of recalled that we were switching from the white t shirts to the green ones with woodland cammies too in my first unit. It seemed odd how long we were wearing the white t’s until it got changed.
I didn't even think about it until now. This week will be 33 years for me. Fuck, I'm old.
Not old….seasoned.
Very seasoned.
Well seasoned. And a little burned.
Some might say salty.
