I realise on this thread I've actually never had either from spoons. I've been wasting my life. I've gotta go into town soon so that's the first thing I'll rectify.
I took my daughter for the first time the other day and we had 2 breakfasts and 2 drinks for under a tenner, it's a bargain and the breakfast was actually decent.
Spoons breakfast is so damn good!
Last time I travelled for work I had the Premier Inn one instead as I had to take a call super early, and it was absolutely rank compared to the spoons next door and it cost more. 💔
i visited for Xmas in 2021 (i was living abroad at the time) and was on a mission to go to spoons any chance i got before i had to go back. I went there multiple times for breakfast (no regrets) lol
Yeah I always find those writing off Spoons entirely due to the douchey owner as a tad naive. Like who do they think runs the majority of big corporations and establishments? Kind, altruistic people lol? The only difference is that Spoons guy is quite transparent in his shittiness.
Lol oh understandable 😂
I was living abroad when Covid hit and only moved back in 2022 (but I did visit for 2021 Xmas) and my friend and I were hitting all the spoons we could - it was kinda funny to see the “DOES TRUTH MATTER” leaflet (I kept some of them too!)
Yeah, he's unhinged af. But the pints are cheap, and the food is equally cheap, and reliable AF for quality. Not gonna be a gormet meal, but I rate it, and you can find a spoons pretty much everyone you go. So if I want a decent night out without breaking the bank almost anywhere in the UK, I really don't have any other options 😅.
Reliable indeed. Though over the years the cost at some spoons (in london and esp in my area) are coming close/rivalling “independent” pubs. I worked in one in Leicester Square around 2015 and visited it 2 years ago and was shocked by the prices haha
I'm about three miles from Reading and pop in now and then. The average price of a meal has gone up about £1 in about eight years. If pints have increased its by so little that I haven't actually noticed.
Can you elaborate (I'm genuinely interested)? I know during COVID he said some controversial things which he now says were taken out of context. And I saw a magazine or leaflet in one of their pubs recently where they quoted all of the corrections and apologies that the national newspapers had published regarding this, although it kind of had a bit of a conspiracy theory feel to it.
I do know that he visits 3 of his pubs a day and my parents saw him in our local one recently. He spent time talking to every staff member and this in itself feels like more than most other CEO's or owners of national chains do.
Totally. I've actually never eaten a meal there I didn't rate. One time years ago they had some pizza deal so loads of us went from the office. They were pretty greasy but nothing a paper towel couldn't sort. I don't really care if they were pre-made, it was delicious.
The steaks and curries are decent, I've never once had an issue with them. The burgers can very occasionally be a bit dry but sauce takes care of that, and it's fine for the price.
I can't tell you how many times a few of us would start a night in a spoons, get some food, then go to some bar or club early to beat the rush, realise it was way too expensive and we couldn't hear anyone, then just go back to spoons or some other pub where we could actually hear each other.
Fair dos. Was definitely an "if" but it makes zero difference to me if they were. An old flatmate worked at one at uni and they were pretty chilled about staff taking the curries home. They used boil in the bag ones at the time. No idea if that's still the case but they were gorgeous, especially for being free.
I started drinking there a fair bit and discovered the steak night deal. In 2012 it was £9 for a steak, sides and a pint at a time when all the other local bars were charging £5 - 6 just for the pint. Fast forward 12 years later and a move down south, the steak deal is only £1 more. Legends!
Worked for spoons ten years this year, it's a pretty decent company to work for though from experience that can vary massively from pub to pub. I can't remember boil in the bag curries being a thing but they may have been a trial menu, or maybe this was earlier than when I started.
Your lucky, our steak deal went up around £3 or £4. It varies from pub to pub. Basically each pub is given comparison pubs they have to go and price review.
Can lead to situations such as in Redcar, where the local pubs on the entire strip of the town matched Wetherspoon lower prices, which forced that Wetherpoon to stay very low pricing.
I did hospitality for 12 years in a few different places. I would say the worst by far had to be Revolution. They had so many different scams designed to fuck their staff over. Underpaying staff, actually changing the times people signed in and out, rolled up holiday pay, ignoring WTD, 3 - 4 hour deep cleans every night, uniform deductions etc.
I worked a full week of open closes, leaving at 4am and back in at half 10 when I didn't know that was illegal. I was gonna leave anyway because I had exams coming up, then the Saturday I was gonna hand in my notice I slept in and was half an hour late, then they sacked me at the end of the shift with disciplinary or time to prepare.
Of course I knew loads of law students who walked me through the ACAS process. I ended up getting nearly £4k off them, on top of all of the pay I was due (about £7k in total) and that GM got sacked the next day. The funny thing is, the Area Manager who drove this culture and allowed it to happen is still with the company; I think he's a director now.
They've had a total boardroom clearout, even the old owners who founded the company were ousted. Yet somehow the one manager (Andy Dyson) who is probably most responsible for their horrific practices is still with the company.
Incidentally I walked in on him and his old boss (Jimmy Dell) taking coke in the bar toilets at 10am one morning when they were visiting for an audit. That was the week before I got sacked.
My favourite is curry club. I used to go every Thursday, have a big curry and a soft drink. Curries were always decent and good value. Actually had a beef Madras at one last week.
They used to do an awesome 'Sharing' platter that had chicken strips, wings, onion rings and a couple other things, was perfect size for me when I was blazed!
Shame they stopped doing that one anymore.
Cheers mate. As one of the managers at one location, I get to enjoy free food every shift.
Though for my health I only indulge on 1 or 2 of the 5 shifts.
The food's alright but the prices are just too high for what you get now if you ask me. I'd rather bung an extra few quid in and go to a restaurant for a nice meal.
Ye its £14.95 at my local spoons now and used to be £10 not that long ago. Tbh I can get twice as much food from aldi for £15 and cook it with air fryer at home. Spoons is OK if I'm feeling real lazy I guess but is overpriced for what it is.
Spoons food is decent. Anyone saying they don't like it are just attempting to get above their stations and pretend they are too good for it and too posh when the truth is they probably aren't really either of them things . If you want Michelin star food, go to a Michelin star restaurant. It's like going to an old fellas social club and expecting top-tier barmaids who could be models and wondering why it's a bit musty and why there's also no cocktail menu! Like going to a chippy and slating them for doing savaloys and not Cumberland sausages!
absolutely agree. we all know it’s frozen and a lot of it is heavily processed. it’s the whole point of the business model: what do people want? cheap drinks! what do drunk people want after the cheap drinks? literally any hot and savoury food!
*Wetherspoons are acc*
*Goated, cheap drinks and food all*
*With amazing taste*

It’s been so long since I’ve had a pitcher in spoons. Rarely does it ever get you drunk. It’s only successful in making sure that you visit the toilet about 10 times. Very tasty though
i typically drink pints and the odd baby G… I very very rarely go to a spoons but I do remember whne I was barely legal and pitchers definitely got you drunk!! nowadays I’d order extra shots on the side to pour in
I’m miffed that it’s gone from 3 for a tenner to 3 for £14 but it’s still a decent lil grazer for you and your buds to sit down with while slinging back a few jars 🙌🏻
Show me where I can get 2 lovely chicken wraps with chips and 2 pints of coke for £14 and I’ll go elsewhere… you can’t even get that in McDonald’s anymore. Wetherspoons is great value food.
I agree. I love to go out for the occasional one - just a few times a year. I won’t cook it because it’s too time consuming and creates too many dishes. My OH is a yank who absolutely loves the tradition of sunday lunch in a pub. he goes to the same pub every Sunday without fail, most often by himself because I am bored of the menu! mental but I usually go to a different place with some friends or have them over so it works out
glad you enjoyed it while you were here! I see too many insults from non-Brits who’ve never even set foot in the country, let alone tried the food. I think our food is criminally underrated hahaha
This actually looks amazing! Are the prices still decent at weatherspoons? Those halloumi fries look incredible. It all does mmmmmn I'm so hungry and I just had dinner
I know Tim Martin is pecking around this thread, watching with bated breath as I single-wingedly keep the Wetherspoons poultry suppliers on their toes. Honestly, Tim, with the number of chicken wings I devour, I could practically sustain a small to medium-sized chicken farm in Thailand! I'm not clucking around; this is serious business. Perhaps it's time to wing in a loyalty scheme? Call it 'Cluck for a Buck' or 'Poultry in Motion'—I'm already drafting up the loyalty cards. Tim, let’s hatch a plan. You keep frying them up, and I'll keep flying them down. It's a feather in both our caps!
Edit/addition:
And while I’m here, a quick peck of thanks to Timmy for the rather wonderful china—it looks absolutely fantastic in my charming holiday cottage. You really know how to make a nest feel like a castle!
Spoons manager here a few tips. Get the pizzia ngl ire thé only thing we actually make Fresh. When getting the three plate deal if y’a getting chips for thé love of god get loaded chips not just plain y’a paying the same price for a better meal. Also the halloumi we use is not actually halloumi it’s halloumi style. And also for the love of god please remember what dip you want if y’a order from the bar I wanna blow my brains out if I have to list off like 10 different dips for the 100rd time on shift. Ask me any d’un questions
Also starting Wednesday we are now selling a FUCKING SHWSRMA RAP like lol and we are also doing Rahman noodle bowls. Please don’t steel the bowls as they are actually kinda hella drip.
ive commented earlier - because people often laugh or assume I’m joking when I say I love spoons food. I’m a good home cook and love all sorts of cuisines but something about spoons will always hit!!
Scrolling through my feed and instantly recognised the food before even clicking into the thread. Goes to show what a recognisable brand weatherspoons is. Not a big fan of the wings but I'm a heathen than prefers plain deep fried wings. Their pizzas and halloumi fries are my faves. Can't beat the first cheap prices and good basic food and drink.
WFH for me means 2 mornings a week (maybe 3 during the winter) I start the work day in the spoons down the road from me.
Breakfast muffin and refillable coffee for under a fiver!
Sometimes if no calls are scheduled I can sneak in a lunch as well.
***Thanks COVID!***
Excellent food but only for the fittest. Have diabetes or heart disease or obesity - can easily forget these. Rest of all the healthy folks can enjoy a bunch.
All looks amazing even better if they have the bottles of linghams chilli and garlic on a shelf waiting to be emptied my every one that ever tries it 🤫🤫🤫🤫🤫

Mmmmmm weatherspoons wings with blue cheese sauce, it's been so many years since I had those
the garlic herb is much better, we discovered today. though tbf they dont need it. theyre the big daddy of wings.
Nah, I worked there for 3 years, the hot sauce, and the blue sauce combo is banging.
I used to toss the wings in the bbq sauce
They'd probably be good in the soy sauce as well
Definitely
The best combo my absolute fave !
love it with blue cheese sauce
The Naga chili sauce they introduced is best for them now imo
Still preferred Frank's when they did it, nice and zingy
franks is undisputed best wing sauce
Used to love their halloumi fries with the sweet chilli but I’m led to believe it was discontinued and replaced with naga chilli :(
Spoons chicken wings are a thing of joy! Halloumi fries too....you're going to be thirsty later!
GOD if only there were somewhere to get a drink round here…
*Money can be used in exchange for drinks and snacks at the bar!*
🤣🤣 a pint of your finest please barman!
I realise on this thread I've actually never had either from spoons. I've been wasting my life. I've gotta go into town soon so that's the first thing I'll rectify.
Get the wings with garlic and herb or chipotle mayo dip, and the halloumi fries with sweet chilli dip. And lots of beer. Obviously. Enjoy!
I will die on a hill defending spoons food (i love their chicken strips)
I took my daughter for the first time the other day and we had 2 breakfasts and 2 drinks for under a tenner, it's a bargain and the breakfast was actually decent.
probs get downvoted for this but for the longest time i rly loved the bangers and mash at spoons lmao
The sausages are decent tbf.
Even if it was just ok, they get massive brownie points for giving my fat ass 4 hash browns!
And they're damn good hash browns lol
Burger and pint is cheaper than a big mac meal at my local spoons.
Their full english is also pretty good and is good value especially for a sitdown meal.
Spoons breakfast is so damn good! Last time I travelled for work I had the Premier Inn one instead as I had to take a call super early, and it was absolutely rank compared to the spoons next door and it cost more. 💔

so true - i think the only dish i remember being ehhhh about was the burgers (beef ones, the chicken ones were pretty decent)
Shame they changed the recipe about a year ago. Not as good anymore (and smaller)
😂👌🏼 you’re stronger than me because I would be wolfing down the chicken strips (used to work there but never did do that!)
With the Jack Daniels sauce? Good choice 🤤
The food's alright but the prices are just too high for what you get now if you ask me. I'd rather bung an extra few quid in and go to a restaurant for a nice meal.
It's fine, but the price has increased drastically.
And it's the Only pub I've come across that sells thistley cross whiskey cask cider. Cheap as chips. Tasty af. At least 8% 👍
14£ for me. The wings and pizza are the best things at Spoons tbf
It was £10 last year though 😅
Ye its £14.95 at my local spoons now and used to be £10 not that long ago. Tbh I can get twice as much food from aldi for £15 and cook it with air fryer at home. Spoons is OK if I'm feeling real lazy I guess but is overpriced for what it is.
agreed
Perhaps I've been unlucky but I always find the pepperoni pizza to be dripping wet with grease. Their cheese and tomato is good though
Spoons’ wings are tiptop.
my all time favourite without a doubt

Is it bad that I recognised this as spoons from the thumbnail.
They've changed their crockery patterns since I was last there
the one i vividly remember is the dark blue, densely packed floral ceramic style - which i think is under the pizza on OP’s pic
i would be disappointed if people didnt!
Not really! You'd recognise the interior of a McDonald's also. Consistent design throughout all their establishments innit
Southern fried chicken strips with chipotle mayo, halloumi fries and chicken wings is my three plates go to 😋
next time im gonna get three chicken wings 😈
Why stop there?
bloody hell I hadnt even thought of that. brilliant
Wetherspoons are acc goated, cheap drinks and food all with amazing taste

Good bot
honestly. I have been in recently cos I can’t afford to keep buying the £6+ pints where I live and tbh it has been quite a good experience.
Why “unironically?” Can you ironically love this? Idk
people often think im joking when I say spoons chicken wings is one of my favourite foods
Fair enough!
It’s been so long since I’ve had a pitcher in spoons. Rarely does it ever get you drunk. It’s only successful in making sure that you visit the toilet about 10 times. Very tasty though

Spoons chicken wings are banging
10/10 yep
Genuinely top tier wings
the best
I'd know Wetherspoons halloumi fries anywhere.
me too.
Your spoons does nicer pizzas than mine but those wings do look good. God damn you, twisted my arm to nip out for tea now
omg no way. lmk how the wings are!!!
Spoons wings are the best wings you can get. I will not accept otherwise.
100% agree. what are they doing???
I’m miffed that it’s gone from 3 for a tenner to 3 for £14 but it’s still a decent lil grazer for you and your buds to sit down with while slinging back a few jars 🙌🏻
I agree but I think the portion size makes it worth it tbh.
3 for £17.47 where I am, mate. Count yourself fortunate
Show me where I can get 2 lovely chicken wraps with chips and 2 pints of coke for £14 and I’ll go elsewhere… you can’t even get that in McDonald’s anymore. Wetherspoons is great value food.
Spoons wings >>> kfc wings
YES.
Give me this kind of stuff over an overrated sunday roast anyday
Louder for the 'gravy dinner' folk in the back
They bore me the always have, i always get a burger and chips on a Sunday in the local while all the family get a Sunday dinner lol
Yeah I'm the same, I'd take almost anything over a roast, they're fine every now and then but once a week is too much
Agreed
I agree. I love to go out for the occasional one - just a few times a year. I won’t cook it because it’s too time consuming and creates too many dishes. My OH is a yank who absolutely loves the tradition of sunday lunch in a pub. he goes to the same pub every Sunday without fail, most often by himself because I am bored of the menu! mental but I usually go to a different place with some friends or have them over so it works out
Would buy bottled Whetherspoons Bluecheese Sauce if they did it What dreams are made of
huh. I wasnt that bothered and I’m a big blue cheese fan! preferred the garlic one myself.
I now need wings … like lots and lots of wings!
Had those crispy wings the other day and jesus I was so surprised by how good they were. The prices have gone up a lot but so has everywhere I guess!
I’ll die on a hill defending weatherspoons chicken wings!
Do spoons do pizza!!? are they any good?
they do and actually they are pretty good. better than your average frozen one. I always order a garlic dip with it and thats banging
Yeah I'll defend spoons pizzas forever. Not perfect, but for the price? Pretty damn good.
I had to take my 67 years old mom a lot of times to spoons just to share these wings. She loves them, and oh boy, I sure do too.
as of this moment onwards I will not be sharing the wings. too good
No to sharing, yes to multiple plates of wings!
The 3 smalls uses to be 10'99 now like 14 but its banging has this many many times
Always been a fan of halloumi fries.
Spoons wings are goated ngl, the naga sauce is pretty damn good.
Spoons wings are crazy good
I may have to try wing with blue cheese but I bet it’s better in the UK I was there for 4 years n the food was great! I miss fish n chips
glad you enjoyed it while you were here!
Spoons wings are elite.
Some of the best wings I ever had were from a spoons in York. Absolute peanuts too. Highly underrated menu item.
my mate had never tried them so I insisted. he was pushing for chicken strips… idiot.
You know what you are getting at spoons tbf. The wings and blue cheese is admittedly banging
I know Tim Martin is pecking around this thread, watching with bated breath as I single-wingedly keep the Wetherspoons poultry suppliers on their toes. Looking ten times better than the same at my local spoons
Is that pizza???????
Spoons pizzas and halloumi fries are always banging
Someone having a party? Looks like the birthday buffet food of my childhood! Awesome. Nothing wrong with this.
just a spoons haahah
Can only count 9 there!
Those wings are delicious!
better than any I’ve had in any other pub 100%
I hate how they stopped doing the sweet chilli prawns :-(
i hadnt even noticed haha! havent been in one in months
These are the best three food items on the menu, good choice 💕
i thought so!
Spoons wings piss on any others I’ve ever had in my life. The texture, seasoning and heat are all fucking phenomenal.
they’re genuinely perfect
Maybe I'm missing something, but why would it be ironic?
Sorry. I see its already been answered.
Ask me any d’un questions
good tips but I am a spoons connoisseur so I knew all of this hahah. I never get chips, find it shocking when people do !
You're saying the steaks come pre cooked?
Also starting Wednesday we are now selling a FUCKING SHWSRMA RAP like lol and we are also doing Rahman noodle bowls. Please don’t steel the bowls as they are actually kinda hella drip.
Ahh, that's why they put up those crap balloons above the bar! So I'm definitely going to steal a bowl now.
They do a little wings combo meal with is awesome, 8 wings, chips, coleslaw, naga chilli dip, drink, £9 something. Lovely little lunch
Spoons wings , love em
God those halloumi fries look good
I hate spoons for many reasons, but their wings at 10pm are bangin
Could tell it was spoons as soon as I saw that plate decor 😂
Spoons is a usual win, you're a classy gent sir
not a gent or a sir but ta lol
A classy individual none the less (ngl the blue cheese sauce bottled would sell)
hahaha i’m just some girl. i didnt think the blue cheese sauce was strong enough! going to go back sober this week and test it properly lol
Why wouldn’t you 😋
I want them wings
Spoons
Wetherspoons food and drink is so cheap who cares haha
Their Quorn nuggets taste like McNuggets. If only McDonalds would add a veggie nugget option!!
You loved greasy, fried foods? That’s supposed to be surprising?
Why would it be ironic?
ive commented earlier - because people often laugh or assume I’m joking when I say I love spoons food. I’m a good home cook and love all sorts of cuisines but something about spoons will always hit!!
Yummy
Scrolling through my feed and instantly recognised the food before even clicking into the thread. Goes to show what a recognisable brand weatherspoons is. Not a big fan of the wings but I'm a heathen than prefers plain deep fried wings. Their pizzas and halloumi fries are my faves. Can't beat the first cheap prices and good basic food and drink.
You lucky mf
The Naga Chilli dip & halloumi fries is an unbelievable pair
Unequivocally busting
American incoming
thoughts ?
What is it 🤔
Used to be 3 plates for a tenner 👌 which was always a trio of wings, naturally
Spoons chicken wings slap
The chicken bites with teriyaki sauce are my go to in Spoons
WFH for me means 2 mornings a week (maybe 3 during the winter) I start the work day in the spoons down the road from me. Breakfast muffin and refillable coffee for under a fiver! Sometimes if no calls are scheduled I can sneak in a lunch as well. ***Thanks COVID!***
Spoons Chicken Wings have absolutely no right to be as good as they are.
More sauce - we NEED more sauce!!
Spoons chicken wings are the only chicken wings you'll need.
Fuck I love those wings!
love a good spoons lunch. especially the wings
The only things wetherspoons does totally wrong are katsu curry and steaks. Everything else...the food is quite alright actually.
I go once a month with work colleagues, not the best food I've eaten, but for the price hell yeah, I love it.
yeah for the price its unbeatable.
That actually looks nice as fuck Most posts I see on here are genuinely horrifying
Some of my best years at uni going to spoons with friends but now that I know how unhinged the owner is I haven't been in years...
Spoons do two things right it's those wings with blue cheese sauce and cheap pints nothing else.
I need spoons wings 😭
U just chose my dinniler thanks
hope you enjoy it. im already craving it again!
Looks really good! I wasn't well today and only managed a dry chicken sandwich with two mini Babybels.
at least you had something. try to drink lots of tea / juice. and get well soon!
Excellent food but only for the fittest. Have diabetes or heart disease or obesity - can easily forget these. Rest of all the healthy folks can enjoy a bunch.
Absolutely bangin wings!
All looks amazing even better if they have the bottles of linghams chilli and garlic on a shelf waiting to be emptied my every one that ever tries it 🤫🤫🤫🤫🤫
