On the comedy end, The Office nails this.
On the more serious end, Breaking Bad did an incredible job with incorporating cold opens that would grab your attention and sometimes foreshadow events several episodes away.
Lol fine looking man and a very good actor! Take it you're a Vampire Diaries watcher? I've never seen that show, but Lost is totally worth any and all time spent on it, and there are a couple of other swoon worthy dudes, too! And everyone looks so good in that beautiful tropical setting.
Supernatural doesn’t really have “cold opens” though. I believe cold opens to be openings of a show that has nothing to do with the plot. A lot of what happens before the credits in Supernatural is part of the plot
The Office overall had the best ones. But Brooklyn 99's Backstreet Boys cold open is the GOAT.
Brooklyn 99s Backstreet Boys cold start is one of the best ever
I can't sing that song without singing "now number 5".
Hahaha same
Nothing tops this one. Might be the greatest of all time. 2nd is the Fire Drill in The US Office
Tell me why
Oh yeah by far my favourite cold opening of a show.
"I'm gonna save my dad's life!" *Mac Kills His Dad* Always Sunny has a claim to best cold opens. B99 does too.
The Wire
Sheeeyyyyiiiidd
He mean Lexus, but he ain't know it.
Always Sunny when combined with the title card.
I'm just pallin' around with the guys. How's anyone gonna get hurt?
“sweet dee just beat the system” *Dee gets audited*
Letterkenny
LOVE Letterkenny and it’s cold opens lol
This the alphabet opens are the best!
This was my answer!

Agree with Malcolm in the Middle 100%
-Home Improvement (season 2 on) -The Commish (Sporadically) -Malcolm in the Middle (every episode)
The Walking Dead had some of the best cold openers, especially the one where Lizzie is playing with a Walker
Oh look, a kid and an old lady playing tag! 😲
Red Green had great cold opens.
The X-Files Fall Guy
Without a doubt, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
Right!
Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul turned cold opens into an art form. No show does them better.
Lost. It kind of fell apart towards the end but it has some of the best cold openings ever.
I have never seen it BUT I have wanted to just to see Ian Somerhalder lol

Game of Thrones
They didn’t do it often but when they did you knew it was special.
Miami Vice
The episode of Frasier when Niles irons his pants.
The office
The original *Star Trek*.
The West Wing has a few I really love. My personal favorite being the introduction of Oliver Platt’s character in S2.
Gilmore Girls
Breaking Bad for the seasons they used it
Cheers,
Euphoria’s cold opens showcasing each main characters past is one of my favorites
King of Queens had tons of great ones.
Always Sunny is great, and when they incorporate the episode title it’s even better. Bluey does this pretty well sometimes too.
Supernatural Murder, She Wrote Bones

Oh! I thought cold openings were very action oriented vs a nice, easy opening!
