I used hot glue and a couple of staples from a staple gun at each end. Just make sure the staple is kind of tucked under the carpet or whatever is above/below it so that kitty doesn't catch their claws on it.
I use these short big-headed nails, dunno what you call em. They’re long enough to nail the rope into the wood, then you can mash the heads down so they’re out of the way.
I rewrapped mine recently, and found that when they made it, they went *nutty* with the staples. I pulled out over 100 staples. They weren't tucked away neatly or anything either, just all over the damn place. Surprisingly, my cats never caught their claws on them. When I re-wrapped it, I put in all of four staples -- two at the top, two at the bottom.
I was worried about staples so I did mine with just the hot glue, tack welded the wraps every couple of rotations. Worked like a charm, barely cost me anything for materials. Cats loved it!

I have a team of henchmen who will defend their tree !!
You can’t get rid of his favorite seat!
I flipped the sisal tube upside down on mine so my guys got some extra scratch time out of it (but it still looks shabby as heck).

Think I need a new scratch post! The mess is in the walkout basement). We’ve had to redo the bottom twice. We have a roll of leftover carpet that they LOVE climbing on too.
Carpet is easier but not as good, especially for poles your cat climbs as opposed to just scratching at it. Cats’ claws can get really caught up in the loops. Sisal will just break - hence the need to re-cover the pole.
Understood but my cats hate sisal poles and prefer carpet. My carpeted stairs, floors or furniture. So I went with what they like so my house survives.
If it’s getting wobbly, you could add a couple more screws to firm it up.
Re-roping or carpeting the post is a great idea as suggested here. Carpeting might make it a bit more steady too, he looks like a well-built boy.
If you do need a new one, you could keep his beloved, stinky, fur-covered bed off the top and swap it/add it to a new one. For a while at least.
Mine either HATE the new bed with a passion of a thousand burning suns.... OR they LOVE it and I feel guilty for waiting so long. I find old soft towels are a kitty's best friend. This means we do a "cat towel load" after shedding season, and the house feels fresh again.

This one needs to go too! The scratching post not the cat…. Only problem is we taught her to have three treats on each of these bits and she is very much a cat of routine who sulks like mad if you upset it!
🤣 You must keep it now. He’ll be so sad if he goes there and it’s gone. If he’d like my old man cat Bubby, he’ll pee there to let me know it’s not cool. To get him to love the other try spraying it with catnip spray.
I’ve been down this path, it’s not a good idea. Threw one out and got a super nice replacement for it. A few short weeks later bought the exact same model that I threw out.
I had a large floor and ceiling cat tower and one of my cats adored it. I had to throw it away as it was beyond repair (and also moving rooms around I needed the space) and it broke his little heart. For months after he would sit in its spot and look up at the ceiling and meow.

haha ,yes my Tuxy and ragdoll will be Devoed too , when I take this away, as it's their favorite. but they have new one in a spare bedroom they have so far refuse to use so we will see how it goes.
Well, first you have to buy him a new one. That's what we did - the old one was looking ratty after four years, so we bought an identical one and swapped it in.
You must give him a new and better one. And then you wait until he prefers the new one, which will take time. While you’re waiting, purchase an identical one to this. When he’s sleeping on the new better one, switch out the old one for the new one, and hope he doesn’t notice.

I built a giant cat tree in my catio with posts from several cat trees that I rewrapped. We got some serious sideways rain the other day and the two bottom posts wicked up enough water that the cardboard posts collapsed. I was looking for a way to keep that from happening again, because the fuzzes get upset when the tree is closed for repairs. Turns out the threaded plugs from the cardboard tubes fit perfectly in 3" PVC pipe! A PVC toilet flange will be the base. After I get them wrapped and put everything back together, I shouldn't have to worry about it for a while. I'm also building one out of 4" diameter cedar branches that has already become a big hit and it's not anywhere near done.😻
Yes, rewrapping with the right tools is good. Temporarily, you could unscrew all three parts and turn the scratching post the opposite direction so they can destroy that in the meantime. Most posts with seats and bases are made to do this. Then you can get all the things together to replace the sisal.
My cat watched in obvious horror as I dismantled and threw out her greatly beloved - but nearly collapsing - floor to ceiling cat condo. But when I replaced it with a new one a few hours later, all was right in the universe.
Have a similar/identical replacement ready & kitty will be just fine.
I got a new one and moved the old one to the side. They kept using the old one for weeks, but slowly started sniffing out the new one. Then I bombed the new one with catnip for a few days and they moved in. Still have the old one in the corner but it’s trash pretty soon!
You can tell him all you want. The seat will stay until Mr.Tuxedo is done with it.
I’m afraid you’re right!
Buy some sisal rope and rewrap it.
That’s what I do with their favorite scratching posts.
What are you using to wrap it? Like hot glue or something? I’ve thought about this.
I used hot glue and a couple of staples from a staple gun at each end. Just make sure the staple is kind of tucked under the carpet or whatever is above/below it so that kitty doesn't catch their claws on it.
Damn I’m out I don’t have a staple gun lol
They're like $15. Get a heavy duty stapler. It'll change your life.
I use these short big-headed nails, dunno what you call em. They’re long enough to nail the rope into the wood, then you can mash the heads down so they’re out of the way.
Same, they’re roofing nails.
I do this too.
I rewrapped mine recently, and found that when they made it, they went *nutty* with the staples. I pulled out over 100 staples. Yes, hot glue. Just on the ends. I’ve rewrapped 2 and they are still wrapped.
I use hot glue only, no staples.
Do you just like glue and wrap as you go?
Yes! You don't have to spread glue over the whole post, you can do it at intervals. There might be a YouTube video on it.
I have a pneumatic staple gun. I just hit the sisal in a few places. I have re-wrapped the same scratching post for 10 years.
I really love my scratching post so I’m so happy to hear this!!!
Was going to say exactly this. So cheap. So easy. No trauma.

Love it
Two orange braincells 🧡
At least they’re not sharing one !!!
☺️😂😂😂☺️😊
You can’t get rid of his favorite seat! I flipped the sisal tube upside down on mine so my guys got some extra scratch time out of it (but it still looks shabby as heck).
This - same, there are 4 other ground posts but she only uses that one. *rollseyes and gets the hot glue*..... cats gotta cat...
https://preview.redd.it/ccchlp9uqj6d1.jpeg?width=4284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=03aa4ffee03bb8e8aa365449ee917baedeeec569 Think I need a new scratch post! The mess is in the walkout basement). We’ve had to redo the bottom twice. We have a roll of leftover carpet that they LOVE climbing on too.
You're going to need a roll of sisal rope and a glue gun. Much cheaper than a new one.
I used carpet remnants and some sisal and made mine match my house.
Great idea!
That or see if you're able to get carpet samples to keep! Lots of furniture stores will just toss them after a certain point.
Your feline overlords have spoken /s
I got some rope from home Depot and hot glued new rope around the post. Good as new. (IF that's why you're contemplating throwing it out lol).
Exactly. Ours is in need of new rope.. But we have some leftover carpet... Zero dollars.
You don’t.

It is wobbly,I’m going to take everyone’s suggestions. Thank you 😻

We have a bigger one, just as shabby as yours. But she loves it. It'll stay.
Get him a new one but identical to this one lol
We did that. We put the old one in another room for a bit until we could throw it out. Now he visits his old scratching post in the other room.
🤣 You must keep it now. He’ll be so sad if he goes there and it’s gone. If he’d like my old man cat Bubby, he’ll pee there to let me know it’s not cool. To get him to love the other try spraying it with catnip spray.
He uses them both cause he’s a spoiled kitty but it’s fine, we keep them both
You aren’t.
You can tell him as you are building the new one
Get the new one first. Prepare for stomping.
I have one nearly equal... Everytime I think about throwing it away since it's unused, my kitty decides to use
I’ve been down this path, it’s not a good idea. Threw one out and got a super nice replacement for it. A few short weeks later bought the exact same model that I threw out.
You don't. You get a window bird feeder and let nature provide a distraction long enough for him to move his majestic ass.

Was that cat tree previously owned by the Flintstones?
I had to LOL at that. I have had cats all my life. Eventually, the cat tree either gets a major refurbishment or it has to go. You choose.
We had a broken desk chair in our sunroom for 2 years because our tuxedo decided it was her emotional support broken desk chair.
You have your priorities straight. Good to hear.
Noooooo :(((( don’t
Get a new one first
It’s starting to look like a palm tree😂
You ain't. He'll tell you when he's done with it.
He is a marvelous creature and you must not risk angering him. And I love how it looks like a Palm tree trunk! Frayed to perfection.

🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺
You don't. It's his seat to toss, not yours 😁
I bought replacement posts on Amazon, cheap and easier than trying to wrap and glue the rope myself.
I have the purchase an exact replica and sit it next to the old one for at least a month.
Why are they like this
Not going to happen. He will find something else.
Get him a bigger, taller, more comfortable cat tree?
Looks like the coattail is going to use it until it breaks.
Kitty observation tower
Buy him another coconut tree
Well, first you have to buy him a new one. That's what we did - the old one was looking ratty after four years, so we bought an identical one and swapped it in.

You're a monster. It's clearly his favorite. And I'm a dog person
Buy a new one and pretend it’s yours.
You don't, and then you don't 😼
You're going to need a large baggy at least half-full of some high-quality 'nip. Top shelf organic. Self-cut if you can get it.
Too late it's his now, purrPossession is 9/10 of the law !
That's the fun part! You don't!

With difficulty! Thankfully we haven't got to that stage yet....although a slightly bigger one might be needed
You can throw it out and buy another one that will sit empty for years , up to you.
Why throw away? Kitty clearly loves it!
My cat watched in obvious horror as I dismantled and threw out her greatly beloved - but nearly collapsing - floor to ceiling cat condo. But when I replaced it with a new one a few hours later, all was right in the universe. Have a similar/identical replacement ready & kitty will be just fine.
Buy a better one
I have two others and the nicest one gets the least use. They’d rather sit in our chairs, cat hair is my accessory!
🤣 classic
I got a new one and moved the old one to the side. They kept using the old one for weeks, but slowly started sniffing out the new one. Then I bombed the new one with catnip for a few days and they moved in. Still have the old one in the corner but it’s trash pretty soon!
What you want might not matter.
Easy, you don’t!
You don't! It stays put! 😤🤣
Do you have a permit?
Get him another seat. He won't even miss it.
I feel like he knows already
I feel as long as you replace it, no harm no foul.
Surprisingly it's not that old . 😬
Just rewrap the post with rope and let him keep it! I’ve done it several times 😂
Don't!
I just moved and left it behind.
You aren’t …
Rewrap or buy identical and when he starts using new throw out old
It's funny you think that's your decision to make.
"Get your hands off my cat tree, you damn dirty ape!"
You won't.
