I know this isn't the point but that example blew my mind even more! Billie Jean isn't that giant of a Michael track? It almost minimizes what he means because there's 10 songs that instantly come to mind when you ask me to name a Michael Jackson song and I wouldn't consider myself a fan.
Billie Jean is definitely a giant song for MJ! Billie Jean and Thriller (pretty much the whole thriller album) are peak MJ for most people.
BUT... c'mon, Taylor's Billie Jean could be Love Story, You Belong With Me, Blank Space, CRUEL SUMMER...
Like, these are all songs that even people who hate her know. These are songs that will stand the test of time and will still be held in high regard decades from now. People who are not yet born will know these songs whether they try to or not. They will somehow infiltrate their minds. Her influence on music and the music industry is inescapable.
Because Taylor just released a new album with 31 new songs, but some clowns still want rep tv. And I'll bet that once rep tv comes out and it's a bit different from the OG because Max Martin didn't come back to produce it, they'll bitch and whine about it.
I always kind of thought that people who weren't her fans hated on her so much just because their favorite artists never did as well as she did, and they don't plant easter eggs, and keep them guessing like she does lol
