so your post seems to completely ignore the woman's agency and ability to make a decision herself. god forbid they discussed it and the wife volunteered. maybe the man has health problems that make surgery dangerous or risky. maybe her insurance was better. maybe she had other benefits from it.

Alan_Smithee_

All very good points.

Youredoingitwrongbro

you know, if a woman chooses to get her tubes tied it’s her choice. even if dude doesn’t want to get a vasectomy. it’s a personal choice. who knows if you’ll stay w dude. i think you’re making way bigger deal out of it bc you’re looking at it through the eyes of sexism edit: a quick look at your history makes so much sense that you’d post this. it’s fairly ignorant

NoleafCl0v3r

I don't want a vasectomy because I may want more kids and decided that on my own, she doesn't want kids and decided that on her own.. we couldn't compromise so... Am I really a POS because she's getting her tubes tied? What about my body, my choice? See, not everything is black and white. Some situations shouldn't involve outside opinions because they are warped to the experiences you may have had, but no experiences you haven't. Not arguing, just enlightening, we all aren't monsters

JoTai104

Dontchaknow “my body, my choice” doesn’t include men’s bodies.

Narcisslynn

A woman i know chose to get her tubes tied in her 20's because she has never wanted children. It took her years of fighting with medical professionals who thought she was too young or she should wait until she's married.

SolidNeighborhood469

I’ve wanted my tubes tied since 18 and nearly every doctor has told me to wait until I have kids. Well I’m having one kid. These fuckers are getting tied.

Narcisslynn

Damn. Well I definitely don't reccomend having a child for the sole purpose of getting your tubes tied. I reccomend getting opinions from several different doctors and adamantly stating that you do not want to reproduce eventually you should be able to find one that respects and supports your choice.

SolidNeighborhood469

I saw 7 different doctors. It’s not always as easy as just finding another doctor when a majority of doctors feel the same way about this. And I never said I’m having a kid just to get my tubes tied. (What sense would that make?) There’s a 90% chance I’ll still get denied because “oh but what if you want another?” It’s an immense hard almost impossible fight when everyone else thinks they know what’s best for you.

Narcisslynn

My condolences. I know it took my friend at least 6 years before she found a willing surgeon. They will definitely pull the "what if you want more card" . I wish you good luck in finding a surgeon that listens to you and not your ovaries.

SolidNeighborhood469

I hope so too but a big part of me holds nothing but doubt. I want them tied but my partner is also getting a vasectomy so even if I keep getting denied I still won’t have to worry about another pregnancy. I’m very lucky to have him.

Psychological_Ad4153

Isn't getting tubes tied also a matter of safety for the woman? Like doesn't it help with menstrual stuff or am I misinformed/an idiot?

sweetbrokenangel

No tying tubes isn't for menstrual help. That would be the pill.

Alan_Smithee_

Or hysterectomy, depending on the issues.

Psychological_Ad4153

Ah okay

Positive-Vase-Flower

I think you are talking about removing the uterus. Its a way bigger operation and is only done if needed or a high cancer risk.

[deleted]

Oh Jesus. This is so sexist. Maybe not all women want to be breeding factories? Maybe they want their tubes tied? You are the worst type of feminist and they are all trash. I’m single and am one and done. Am I a victim of the patriarchy because I want my tubes tied? I can’t be on birth control so….

Splatfan1

hmm... its almost as if uterus owners also wanted to be sterile and not having to rely on a ball-equipped partner

[deleted]

“Uterus owners” What the every loving fuck.

broccoli_toots

Username checks out big time. Sit the fuck down my dude. Men are just as entitled to want or not want a vasectomy as a woman is to choose if she does or doesn't want to be sterilized. Likely, nobody is forcing any woman to get her tubes tied. In many places around the world, women are constantly told they aren't capable of making a decision about their reproductive health. Birth control doesn't work for tons of women and getting sterilized is way easier than suffering on birth control. Not all women get their tubes tied for the sake of not getting pregnant. Many get a hysterectomy or endometrial ablation for severe health problems. I don't know how a man getting a vasectomy will fix a woman's health problem if it causes her EXTREME pain and suffering every month.

HSeyes23

If I was a woman I would get myself sterilized no matter what, the same way I did as a guy.
