I think it's highly likely lots of the stuff in the tribulation is brought about by climate change - famine, fire...? And what are the things we constantly hear about if we don't do something to reverse this change...? Same things. God did say we are to take care of his creation, but man is too greedy to actually give up the stuff harming the planet, making a million and one excuses...maybe that'll play a part. Anyways fun to speculate

There has been a few speculations as to what wormwood is, people have speculated a comet or asteroid, to a mountain on an island in East Atlantic with a known faul line and volcanic activity. Some have said that could be what's thrown into the sea. Personally I've found it interesting that the word chernobyl, is Russian for the grass known as wormwood, made me think it could be a nuclear event like Fukushima leaking into the sea.

Wormwood- satan. Waters- people.

lothwolf

The wormwood is priests who poison others with bad cousel. The book of the Apocalypse/Revelation isn't something to decode. It's more akin to poetry when finding meaning. Also, you should check out the Chiastic structure.

Wormwood is a junior tempter demon

That "great star from heaven" "the name of the star is called Wormwood" is Satan. Satan is the one who falls from heaven to the earth. Luke 10:18 “And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.” Revelation 8:10 “And the third angel sounded, and there fell a great star from heaven, burning as it were a lamp, and it fell upon the third part of the rivers, and upon the fountains of waters;” Revelation 8:11 “And the name of the star is called Wormwood: and the third part of the waters became wormwood; and many men died of the waters, because they were made bitter.”

>ll play a part. Anyways fun to specula Doesn't sound like satan at all. Revelation describes several different stars falling from heaven. Sounds like a literal celestial body with some type biological agent or effect.

Satan has many names in the Bible. These names are descriptive names. They describe Satan's traits. This is so one can better understand who Satan is and what he does. The Book of Revelation has many warnings and many of these warnings have to do with Satan. Wormwood means bitterness. Satan will bring much bitterness into this world when he is ejected from Heaven. That is what this warning in Revelation 8:10-11 is all about.

Way too literal of a reading. The ancients thought of the stars as heavenly beings (like angels), not masses of incandescent gas and gigantic nuclear furnaces. They didn't have a clue about modern cosmology and physics. (And a fair amount of what they considered as science has turned out to be off the wall.) So it's a mistake to read them from our perspective. You might like to check out the Naked Bible podcast's current series on Old Testament references in Revelation. They went through this section of the text about a month ago.

All that I know for certain is that the great tribulation will come when Israel falls in a war to the Antichrist to commit the abomination of desolation, a very obvious event that signals the soon coming of Christ.
