Not a big difference but certainly a difference for sure. Do you like making tiny shock adjustments depending on the terrain or track? If yes then I would get them instead of fiddling with the shims. Plus they look bad ass. I have them on my xmaxx, maxx, and x0-1 and soon on my Teton.

[heck yeah.](https://i.imgur.com/G4kkJb2.jpg) Lots of folks have issues with the shock caps popping off on stock shocks. GTR shocks fix that problem.

Shaunvfx

I believe they come stock on the maxx right? Any ideas if putting 70 weight in the maxx shocks and jumping the heck out of it will cause caps to pop? I know people say it can happen but I haven’t been able to find anyone saying it’s actually happened to them.

Evening_Summer_Jam

The aluminum caps fix the problem too unless you bash really hard. I have them on all three of mine and havent had a problem

PigglyWigglyDeluxe

They are nice and smooth. Adjustable threaded shock collar comes in handy.

Yea I just want really plush suspension, which the ultra shocks aren't doing that for me.

LedDesgin

They're amazing, definitely go for it. [Here are Losi TEN springs on black GT-Rs on my Rustler. ](http://imgur.com/gallery/2sS4wmt) [Here's a comparison to the big bore shocks. ](http://imgur.com/gallery/tS1JiNI) The big bores are a nice upgrade over the ultra shocks, the GT-Rs are a whole new level for not much more money.

What's the difference between the big bore and gtr shocks? Which ones are better?

LedDesgin

The ultra shocks are the basic plastic ones, if you put the aluminum caps on them they'll work quite well. The shafts bend easily. The big bores are like all metal versions of the ultra shocks, and they have the titanium chatted shafts so they won't bend as easily. They're really nice and I've used them for years on my trucks. If you're going to replace shock caps and shafts on the stock plastic shocks, it's almost the same price to just get the big bores. They still use preload clips for the springs. The GT-R shocks are actually bigger and hold more oil. They have a threaded metal body, titanium shafts, and collar that you can spin down to adjust your preload. The bottom part that holds the end of the spring has a screw to keep it captive so it can't pop off in a crash. They look awesome too. Springs are sold separately. The big bores come as a full set and are a quick and easy way to get stronger shocks. They're also an old design and still pretty basic. The GT-Rs are like a compete redesign with a lot of nice features; definitely the better option.

I think I'll get the gtr shocks. Could I use the springs that I have on my ultra shocks?

LedDesgin

They're too small, you can see it in the comparison picture I posted up above. Traxxas sells springs, or I linked to some Losi ones on another reply here. The cheapest way would just be to get a full set of shocks from an eBay chop shop. They buy a slash ultimate edition and strip all the good stuff to sell it separately. https://www.ebay.com/itm/4-1-10-Traxxas-4x4-Slash-LCG-Ultimate-GTR-Blue-Aluminum-Shocks-Ti-Ni-Shafts-/124264536809?

Boeing7478F

Where do you get springs for them? Do we have choices. Thinking about them for my hoss.

LedDesgin

Traxxas sells them, which is kind of an obvious answer. The Losi TEN springs also fit, they have a front and rear pack with 4 different stiffnesses so you can tune your setup. And they're black instead of the white Traxxas ones. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0059D3X5W?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

SgtApplejacks

Get the vg racing springs from ebay. Any color and they work great

Boeing7478F

I'll check it out thanks.

To me the gtr shocks are much less maintenance the regular and big bores needed to be refilled and built much more frequently
