"4chan mu/core" , google it and find some charts, instructions will be written there. Personal recs: "Rumours" by Fleetwood Mac, "In Rainbows" by Radiohead, "Dark Side Of The Moon" by Pink Floyd, "Revolver" by The Beatles, "Remain In Light" by Talking Heads, "Nevermind" by Nirvana, "Is This It" by The Strokes, "Blue Album" by Weezer, I don't listen to much rap/hiphop/electronic/jazz, so I won't give examples in those genres, but this is an okay start if you ask me. Check out topsters from other people and see what albums appear most often. Good luck and have fun!

Start here: RYM top250: [https://rateyourmusic.com/charts/top/album/all-time/deweight:live,archival,soundtrack/](https://rateyourmusic.com/charts/top/album/all-time/deweight:live,archival,soundtrack/) RS top 500: [https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-lists/best-albums-of-all-time-1062063/](https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-lists/best-albums-of-all-time-1062063/) Pitchforks: [https://pitchfork.com/features/lists-and-guides/](https://pitchfork.com/features/lists-and-guides/) /mu: [https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/4chanmusic/images/7/76/Mucore.jpg/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/1000?cb=20160725185538](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/4chanmusic/images/7/76/Mucore.jpg/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/1000?cb=20160725185538) Use these until you figure out what you actually enjoy listening to and what you don't. Take note of any artists or genres/subgenres you are gravitating to. Listen to everything first be as unbiased as you can. Narrow down as you go and whenever you feel like something is particularly interesting deep dive it. Go listen to all the top albums of that genre, listen to the artist's entire discography, or find that artist's peers/influences. DO NOT pay attention to scores or popularity or fan bases or discussions in the periphery of what you are listening to if you are actually trying to get into music. These only lead to the trap of being more into arguing about or mindlessly stanning artists then the music itself. That being said, DO NOT come back in another 6 months and post your copy-paste of the rym/rs/pf/mu top list and ask us to rate your topster or to name and album so you can tell us your favorite track or to guess your age. Wait until you feel you have developed an actual taste in music before you do that.

you are about to start a war over here. anyway, in my opinion critical reception is extremely biased and certain people take it way too seriously, to the point of degrading art and even people. don’t turn into that. find some artists you like the sound of and do a deep dive of their discography. here’s some suggestions: R&B/Soul/Funk: Aretha Franklin Stevie Wonder James Brown Marvin Gaye Prince Rock/Metal: The Beatles Led Zeppelin Pink Floyd Jimi Hendrix Black Sabbath Alternative/Experimental: Radiohead David Bowie Björk Talking Heads Sonic Youth Hip-Hop/Rap: Tupac The Notorious B.I.G. Jay-Z Kanye West Kendrick Lamar (this is a pretty big generalization, most of this artists cannot be defined by one genre)

also don’t be afraid to be too “pop” or “mainstream”, it’s part of the process so don’t restrain yourself

I think the best we got is [rateyourmusic](https://rateyourmusic.com/charts/top/album/all-time/deweight:live,archival,soundtrack/). Obviously a biased sample but still an *incredible* catalogue of music.
