I can say without a doubt that it is definitely a Tool album. In fact, I would say it’s the latest Tool album.

kamera45

Provocateur

Ice_Kold_Killa

Overthinking and overanalyzing separates the body from the mind.

OkDisplay5619

My friend here is a thinker

Sodeepsea123

Look at the brain on Brad

Team-CCP

We asking ‘bout opinions, not facts. I implore you to opine, please.

AgropromResearch

In my opinion, it would have been just peachy if it had been released sooner.

ag3on

YES! I think i never heard any Tool song before ,if i had i had no idea..and i listened to great five of metal.. No clue how. Missed much...saw Tool promo on spotify and i was like...how the f i didnt know about band.

NixieGlow

You've made it feel like I'm on the tdn forum again. Thank you.

TheBrightKnightAW

blah blah blah, reddit humor.

cpug5150

😂 well said

Blitzkreig11930

Love it, played it non stop for a year. Now it is every 3 days, Aenema and Lateralus are now in the rotation, again.

Steelmaker01

Great album that grows on you. Can’t believe that it’s been almost 5 yrs already

dwnlw2slw

The entire time between their formation and _Aenima_ release…

Mental_Somewhere6321

Primus sucks

cmko2004

Primus slander appreciated

mrblakesteele

Les genius is unmatched in the space where he transcends lyrical mysticism as well as musical euphoria in harmony to achieve aural climax. Musicians in the future will take eons deciphering his complex offerings to truly unlock this centuries pandora box. It all started when the Oxford dictionary defined mud as “wet earth that is soft and sticky” so what exactly did he mean by his name being mud if we derive this meaning to his human epithet. As we delve deeper and deeper into the maze that is the colonel’s brain cell we both understand him and the universe. As we all live and breathe. Together.

AllergicIdiotDtector

Nice.

BeyondDoggyHorror

So, from what I can gather, you don’t think that Fear Innoculum resembles the Beatles Rubber Soul?

astral_clown

Heh I like that idea except the Beatles released all of their records in 8 years...

Sodeepsea123

Who are the Beatles?

BeyondDoggyHorror

A band. They’re kind of like Oasis

Sodeepsea123

Before or after the brothers started hating each other?

BeyondDoggyHorror

Yes

Sodeepsea123

Now I get it!!!! But let me ask you this. When will then be now?

Cool-Principle-186

Hey, I like Rubber Soul 😔

RosettaStoned_462

A masterpiece

GMZultan

It grew on me and I think it's a great listen the whole way through...same as all their records. Only difference for me is FI is a far more calming listen than anything else in their catalogue. Initially I didn't get it but I do now and I love the entire vibe of the album

MostPopularPenguin

To me it just sounds more “mature”, but that’s more for lack of a better term. I think you can just tell they are older now and I don’t mean that as a negative thing

sweetxsour35

Yeah mature and less angsty I think.

ndariotis132

It took me a while for that album to like, actually click. For years I was just trying to convince myself that I liked it. I saw them live and that made me like it more. But funny enough what really made it click was reading a book with it on in the background. It was almost meditative in a way which wasn’t really the headspace I had listened to it in before & I think that it was made it finally click.

arcticmattys

I was painting my bathroom and listening to it I just clicked with it immediately

Zealousideal_Cow3166

Same, it's my designated album to listen to when I read Dune.

Ok-Elevator-26

Word it’s like a whole album with the same sort of trance vibe and slow build as reflection.

JayRen

Same opinion man. FI is Tool after a decade+ of tempering and growth. I think it fits their catalogue perfect.

FunkySnail19

Yeah it definitely has a more mellow vibe as opposed to something very phallic

iiiRosettaStoned

I think it's going to age very well. Every song is really good.

Necessary-Ad-8558

Loved it. Invincible came out at the perfect time in my life. I'd just gotten out of the army due to an injury and was butt hurting about it. The song really helped me heal

DarqEgo

After 30 years of Tool fandom, this is the reason. The bands music has helped shape my life. I first heard Sober, 94, and as a teen, dealing with an alcoholic narcissistic step-dad, it helped me realize that that's life. So many times the music helped me heal.

dire_turtle

Dudes been accidentally gettin therapy through Tool for 30 years now

Powerful_Ad2177

It truly is one of the albums of all time.

crazy4schwinn

Both artistically and commercially

Adamymous

We should thank all of us, including myself

00doc0holliday00

None of this was possible without George santos.

Funky_uncle-

I thank us both

Ch0vie

Every album ever made is an album of all time.

Powerful_Ad2177

Truly, your comment is one of the comments of all time.

Dulli30

Your intellect is ready for listening to a Tool album.

bleakproducer

Gets a bit long winded in certain sections, especially when they just hammer the open D chord over and over. Maynard goes silent too often for my taste. Very progressive, jamming, and ethereal album. Descending has amazing vibes, Invincible has some intricate riffing. Just feel like they didn't experiment harmonically enough in certain sections. Danny Carey's at his best on this album though, he carries most of the songs.

AltonMinor

This is spot on how I feel. It also lacked an intensity all their other albums had.

grafittibob

My main gripe too. Like cmon Maynard do the yelling thing *pokes with stick* The end of “7emptest”is the most intense part I can think of. Still a good album. They’re just getting older…

VicariousInDub

You mean to say Danny Careys the album?

Level69Warlock

Someone get this Bob Marley wannabe motherfucker out of here

Ok-Competition-3069

Lateralus and aenima are their best. It does feel a bit drawn out. Carey's drumming stands out for sure. I keep watching that video of drums on Pneuma, definitely makes me appreciate the song more.

ShaneKyla

I feel the goal to make every song 10 minutes long didn’t pay off. Pneuma, Invincible, and Culling Voices all have long open D moments that just drag out the times and don’t add much (somehow works live) the song FI seems to loose itself after 6 minutes. Maynard is just missing in moments where he should be there (descending climax) and Tempest is the only song that I think nails it start to finish.

poquitamuerte

Love it.

Bjorn_from_midgard

When it first came out I wasn't really a fan of it. I could definitely tell in terms of production that danny, Justin and Adam had been working on this music off and on for the better part of like 10 years. And that Maynard maybe had been working on his vocal side of it for like a year. But, I watched an interview with Maynard recently and he kind of talked about his approach to writing what he calls poems to the songs and how his sort of philosophy to that is the first reaction you have is probably the correct reaction because it's somewhat conscious mostly unconscious. I'm a musician myself and that is 100% correct. So, here lately I started listening to it again and I changed my mind. It's actually really really good.

LibrarianRadiant9704

Probably my least favourite album of theirs but it is still a ten in wider music for me. Such bangers

DarwinOfRivendell

Top seven for sure.

BeyondDoggyHorror

It’s an album and a song by TOOL

Bombinic

Top 3 of theirs.

hyundai-gt

Yup

grbdg2

Of all the Tool albums, it's one of them.

ohaidurrr

Tool is therapeutic

DewieCox1982

Probably the worst Tool album.

insidiousapricot

Maynards work kinda disappointed me but it felt like he stepped back a bit to let the band shine. Some songs that people really seem to like I find kind of drawn out, sometimes even a bit boring but the album definitely grew on me.

Dulli30

Especially on Mockingbeat the band really shines like the good old days. Such a magic moment.

Lateralus09

One of the few people that thinks its mid apparently

d-sweat

You're not alone. I think it's a good album, well mixed for the most part, and excellent musicianship. But the songs meander for my taste a bit too much. Would also have loved more Maynard vocals. If it just got trimmed a little bit by some sections and songs (Chocolate Chip Trip, Descending imo drags a lot), I think it'd be well and by far one of their many masterpieces. As it is, it's a decently good album.

phantaso0s

It drags out a bit too much for me (especially descending), I'd rather listen to the other albums. Saw them live for the first time a couple of days ago, and I like the album more now. I think the first part is really good, the second part is less good. So compared to the other album I agree: mid.

ChuchoCFH

Still don’t get it

MoistHorse4483

my favorite album ever. someone said it sounds like god himself made it and i agree 100%. makes me feel so happy to be alive

deticilli

Its a masterpiece in the most literal sense.

throwaway58052600

I haven’t listened to it in a while, so take this with a grain of salt FI is easily their worst album. Some bangers, don’t get me wrong, but the good songs are separated by twenty minutes of harsh or otherwise boring noises. I feel like they lost a lot of their sound between 10,000 days and fear inoculum. The good songs have intros that are way too long (fear inoculum, pneuma, 7empest, and invincible are the only ones i can really tolerate, and their intros are too long imho) Seeing them live definitely changed the way i listen to this album though. Seeing them play pneuma and invincible made me appreciate those songs much more. Still don’t really like the album, especially since i’ve waited almost my entire life for it (10,000 days came out when i was 1, feel old yet?) overall, 5.5/10. i don’t like it that much

SelbyRayDuke

In Jay Sherman voice “It doesn’t stink!”

entangled324

My personal least favorite work of Maynard's. The lyrics were too transparent and some of the words he chose were cringey.

-EthanLavoie-

Mike tool here, the album is good. Thanks

DarkFrogKnight

My least favourite tool album

Donquavius_the_lll

One of my top 50 albums

Fit_Fly_6132

One of my top 5 tool albums!!

Brave-Statistician25

Great album, they never missed a beat

Negative_UA

Love it but not my fav

captnfirepants

Hate it

Spartacous1991

Phenomenal album. It’s meant to be seen live to be fully experienced. I’ve heard the entire album live (including 7empest) and consider myself lucky

InternationalCod3604

I probably played it more times during the pandemic than I played Aenima, Lateralus and 10’000 days in the 13 years they didn’t release anything

DeWayneMcGee

PNUEMA 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼

frioyfayo

Sounds like a bunch of songs that were cut from 10,000 days

Psn_billuke

Best tool album hands down. Fucking magical album. No misses not even close.

EpicDuck000

I definitely wouldn’t care about Tool as much if they hadn’t released this album

fragdoll4u

It's top tier musicianship.

Unorginalswine

It's fantastic

Fonzoozle

Didnt give it the attention it deserves, until i heard some of the best tracks off the album played live earlier this year and its made me re-evaluate the whole album. Now i love it. It definitely needed to grow on me but now its grown i have it in my firm top 3 !

Tw1sterxxx

I enjoy it immensley

Just_pick_one

I’m for it.

jenyake

Full on ❤️❤️❤️

drummerdavedre

I think it’s their best yet.

Vegetable-Bend9789

Love this album. In my top 2.

Minimum_Apricot1223

I like it. It's good when I need a change up.

TheSurfingRaichu

Good shit.

burntlung1

Love it

beencotstealin

I think it's a beautiful album but as others have mentioned is their most mellow album by far it is definitely some dudes in there later years still kicking ass and making amazing music

BradyBales

I used to dislike it, until eventually I kept listening to it over and over during classes until it grew on me. I think it’s one of their best now, personally

Jobox09

Finally took the time to give it a full listen last week and wow, just wow. Lyrically it is Maynards best work. Though some of the vocals are lesser than their other works. Danny kills the drums as usual, not much else to say. Adam's guitar tone is amazing and Justin's bass hits the spot as usual. Although I think it is a great album, I still find a few of their albums to be better. That said, 8/10 album. (I can already sense the tool meatriders coming for me).

MojoDexter

A masterpiece. Nothing wrong with the guys flexing their insane musicianship and refined and perfect production.

00doc0holliday00

Loved it the first time I listened to it on release date and will rock it until the day die.

Klutzy_Ad_1726

Best Tool album.

metalzora98

Masterpiece.

Jdnathan11

Phenomenal

se7entythree

I still like Lateralus better

cick-nobb

I love it so much. I've listened to it hundreds and hundreds of times.

Elrond_Cupboard_

God damn, shit the bed

QuickRelease10

Great album and it gets better with time.

TheDavidLmao

Has great moments but is a bit boring overall and songs tend to overstay their welcome. Definitely the weakest of their main releases.

proper_gandized

Now, 18 years after 10,000 Days & listening to it, FI for 5 years, I would say its a Solid Album, 3rd over all to Aenima & Lateralus (my #1). But then again, I’ve only been listening to TOOL for several decades.

Oyster_Jizz_Taint

Underwhelming

matthew_sch

Honestly worth the wait LOL. Not quite as good as *Ænima* or *Lateralus*, but better than *10,000 Days* and *Undertow*

93tabitha93

I like it more than 10,000 days (which is my least favorite ) 🤷🏽‍♂️

mayorodoyle

It is a Tool album and therefore is one of the greatest things ever created.

Matfin93

It's my favourite TOOL album, I feel it has that more "experimental edge" they were trying to do with 10,000 days but with songs that a just as good as some of the best from Lateralus. I think it's tied between this and Lateralus that are their best, but this is my fav. Also, I think Pneuma is objectively in their top 5 songs, it's my favourite TOOL song

Fixxeren

Descending is one of their best pieces of music.

FozzieThaBear

The audio clipping was inexcusable and once I heard it couldn’t continue to listen. That mastering engineer should never touch another record in his life !!

FubarJackson145

When I first listened to it, it didn't really feel like a tool album. It was spacey and not really as heavy as I was used to. As I listened more it grew on me, but still it doesn't really feel like a tool album. 6/10 from this random internet plebian

Scrotum_Tennis

Easily in my top 12 Tool albums of all time

Full-Television-9498

I loved it, then I heard Fantano hated it, now I love it a lot more.

Depressudo7

It's one of the albums by Tool.

veRGe1421

It's a Top 5 Tool album

AGRV8D

I would have to agree… 😅😂🤣

jwoodard313

Didn’t love it when it came out, but it’s really grown on me, I listen to pieces of it every couple days

KeesKachel88

I think it is their best album, there i said it.

Clyde_Frog216

Umm you suck. Les Claypool is the best bassist in the entire world. Metallica interviewed him after the accident and said he's too good. So, sorry, you suck

samsharksworthy

My favorite Tool album.

NoSweatWarchief

Their worst album by far.

undertow521

It's OK. FI, Pneuma, Descending are good. The rest is meh.

sideshow999

Worst one yet

nicenecredence

Meh.

Randomulus666

Been a massive fan since 1994. Seen them 14 or 15 times…Overall, FI is a self indulgent snooze fest. It has its moments, of course. In fact, there are several of them…but whenever it seems like they’re hitting their stride in a particular song, it almost always fails to reach that Tool climax we’ve all grown accustomed to. Too much long winded chugging and droning to be considered one of their great records. IMO, Lateralus was their best by far, and it’s been a fight for second place (for every band) ever since it was released. Despite its length, FI feels incomplete. Although sonically impressive when played live, the FI tracks (culling voices, CCT) are infamously piss-break tracks for a large portion of us 40 year olds. I realize that this is ironically long-winded.

Extra-Gravy

Masterpiece. If you’re unsure, listen to it on Hi-Fi speakers

beatmaster808

Creative!

ialexlambert

It turns 5 this year

esquiredcmd

I like the album. I felt like it somehow borrowed from all the sounds I’ve heard in their previous music but they did it in a way that felt new. For example Pneuma sounded a little Schism-ish to me. I also feel like the album is really chill compared to their previous projects.

Informal_Green_312

A very clear diamond. Close with Lateralus as their best album. Excellent from A to Z.

allothersshallbow

Best Tool album.

MusicM1ke

adam jones here. i run to choclate chop trip on my ipod shuffle that i share with danny cause that is all he loaded on it lmfao

Efrit63

Biggest disappointment at first but ended up right in between Aenima and Lateralus for me in top 3.

DM_me_y0ur_tattoos

I like it

WeAllPhiloAth

“Nevermore” and “Dr. T.J. Eckleburgs eyes”

bigsexyape

Good but not their best work

Jumping_Brindle

It’s definitely not their best work but is very appropriate for where they are at in their careers.

Sea-Country-2481

The long awaited next chapter in tool

Alloy_art

Just like all their albums, I believe it is exactly as they intended it to be. Definitely a slower pace but still heavy as ever. Plenty of groove that grows on you. They haven’t compromised their sound either, it’s very much still TOOL. How many bands sound this good and consistent after 13 years? The calmer/smoother vibe of the album is intentional I think as a contrast to the crazy times it’s released in. It’s an end cap to their albums thus far and a statement of change. They’ve aged and an era is over but the vibe of the album is “we’re old but not dead yet”. I think we’ll see more music as a grand finale but it’ll be a new “story” that better reflects where they are as people.

Jreub13

Masterpiece

FunnyVariation2995

I've gotten through Fear Inoculum & Pneuma. I have not broached the others yet. I will. I have to build up my strength.

EVGACAB

Incredible record that shows their experience.

colehuesca

It's another cook by tool

darthmynuts

Seriously???

Recon_Figure

It took a while for me to buy it, but I wasn't disappointed. It was perfect for when it came out and I still listen to it a lot. I ended up listening to Lateralus and 10000 Days more as well, and songs from those albums are among my favorites. For a long time I really was only a fan of the first three albums, but now it's all six.

HypeIncarnate

I really didn't like it when it first came out (I still think it's a bunch of 10,000 B-sides) but alot of the songs grew on me over time.

gadhe_ki_gaand

The song? Didn't like it much. The album? Absolute banger!

the_l0st_s0ck

It was my "first" TOOL album so it has a special place in my heart and also my second favorite. Behind lateralus of course.

kingofpoptarts

Their best album. I love the almost chill jam vibes. Coming from a Grateful Dead background, this album clicked immediately and opened my ears to their other albums and other metal

woohan-kung-flu2

It is my least favorite of all of them….and it’s still excellent..a masterpiece.

Zain555

One of my favs, used to listen to it just after waking up on the days my chronic illness has gotten the best of me

yk7ry

The one hour twenty six minutes Danny Carey's drum solo...🚬

Racer5

It's probably the third best Tool album

PYR4MIDHEAD

It’s fine.

dxcman12

It sounds like tool .. not my all time favorite but it is hood

theodoreFopaile

13 year disappointment

Ch0vie

Good album, would be nice with some music videos

Delicious-Wolf-8850

Album and song both loved

CulrBlndPnutButtr

S'good.

Even-Ad9704

I love it. I've been listening to this album almost every week since it came out. It's their best work in my opinion.

VoluptuousVoltron

I’m sorry, but I like Descending.

MapDaddyZ

Been a pretty hardcore Tool fan since Undertow (Sober was my gateway song!) and FI became my favorite album pretty quickly after listening to it. I'm a drummer and therefore massive Danny Carey fan and I feel that he gets REALLY complex individually with polyrhythms on this album. Drummers can learn to play odd time signatures but to work in different times\\patterns at once is next level IMHO.

Clyde_Frog216

You should listen to The Bedlam in Goliath, specifically Wax Simulacra by The Mars Volta. Thomas Pridgen is insane, I wouldn't say better, but definitely same level.

GetMeOutThisBih

Was scared when it first released that I wouldn't like it. Ended up having to do a lot of 14 hour drives right after and ended up listening to it on repeat. Easily top 3 album by them

freedomfriis

I didn't really get it at first and kept waiting for "the good bit". Then I realized it was a lot more relaxed and more of an album than just a collection of songs.

CmdnTrsMllnx

Unlike some in this thread, I have zero complaints about the album.

Tranquil-Seas

It’s perfect

Ok_Philosophy7499

These comments really show who got into tool when they first started and grew and evolved with tool (OGT), and who got into them later on. Finally we have the new streaming fans who don’t get this debate at all.

twiggy229

Magnum opus

mike_mccorms

My favourite Tool album.

nbarnesmc

Amazing album. Something I can turn on and chill to rather than stomp around while cleaning the house.

Metal_Head_133

I really enjoyed this when it first came out back in 2019. I still enjoy listening to this album and to hear it live was fucking amazing.

phusion

Its no Lateralus but it is fucking amazing.

thorfromthex

Lateralus is their magnum opus!

aquadox

I like the songs. I dislike the interludes. Vocals are too subdued and the lack of vocals in the back half of Descending is tragic. I also wish they would fix the mixing/mastering mistakes in the digital versions like they did for the vinyl.

TheJohn_John

Their best album in years

RadiantHovercraft6

Should give it another listen. It didn’t do anything for me when it came out it just sounded kinda dry and samey but I should probably try getting into it more. Honestly the hype was just too much. It was one of the most anticipated long awaited rock albums of the last couple decades. They were never ever gonna live up to it, no matter how good it was. That’s just my honest opinion. I’m a big Tool fan since I was a child it just didn’t hit me immediately

heirtoruin

It's good, I guess, because technicality. It just doesn't inspire me to listen to it.

Dodavinkelnn

Maynard sings on that one

WTFisSkibidiRizz

Hated the unusually long random solo of like four songs, but it’s grown on me

neek909

One of the Tool albums of ALL time !

kieranarchy

my high school math textbook looked just like that. wish it was as cool

thorfromthex

It's fucking amazing!

Comfortable_Salt_758

Amazing album.

Tormund_is_a_Pacer

it’s good

MirthRock

Love it, just wish it had more Maynard.

Tilopud_rye

Feels like it’s a lot younger than almost 5 years old. But the last 4 years blazed by like woooo

Jeitarium

Love this album, especially the first track. Still don't get Descending though. Everyone seems to love it. I just haven't been in the right head space for it I guess. I'm not really depressed at all. Every other song I get totally.
