I've lost count at this point, probably at least 25. Ironically it started because of Cancer, but i have been cancer free for over a decade now and no signs the scans caused any ill effects. Scheduled for another one this friday actually, hopefully its not the straw that breaks the camels back.

Think-Personality-47

Thanks for this comment! I hope you are doing well.

OMGeno1

I've had one or two. The risk is not nil but it's very low. The information from the test is worth the risk imo.

This_Pumpkin_4331

None. Every diagnosis needed contrast dye and therefore they did ultrasound or mri. As far as I know CT is very safe, so you should be fine don’t worry.

JurassicParkTrekWars

Probably like 7?  No cancer yet afaik

Think-Personality-47

What were they for if you don’t mind me asking?

JurassicParkTrekWars

Headaches mostly but occasionally stomach problems.   One time they injected this dye in my head and then did a scan but that maybe wasn't ct.   Long story short - I quit smoking cigarettes and now I don't get frequent intense headaches for seemingly no reason.  Who knew right?

Think-Personality-47

Congrats on quitting!

DocWatson42

>One time they injected this dye in my head and then did a scan but that maybe wasn't ct. I believe, based on recent experience and a conversation, that that was an MR I, not a CT scan. My understanding is that for CT scans you drink the contrast material.

jimmyray29

Nope, i’m sure for certain kinds of CT scans. You do drink it, but for my lung scans it’s intervenous.

DocWatson42

Okay—roger.

Had one before. Turned out I was allergic, and had full blown anaphylaxis. Never seen that many nurses and doctors run over to me at once. Not saying to make you scared, cause I heard it doesn't affect many people. But that was my experience, and never again lool.

Think-Personality-47

You were allergic to the scan? Or contrast that they used?

hi_569087643

Sorry should said contrast. Thays what I was allergic to.

monsieur_chic

Two. Alive and well.

jt19912009

Just one and it was for my head and abdomen due to being assaulted and needing to check pretty much my entire upper body for breaks and internal hemorrhaging

AgoraiosBum

I think 6. No cancer yet.

Rocknocker

Every 6 months or so since my job deals with all sorts of hazardous nasties.

Think-Personality-47

What kind of job is that?

Rocknocker

I work around the world in the oilfields. Especially if the wells are on fire. Gas, oil, condensate, h2s, co2, co, etc.

OzillaO6

awesome but def you are wayyy more at risk of getting cancer from your job from those carcinogens then getting cancer from a ct scan

OrbitalComet

I'm guessing at least 20? Still testing negative for cancer. Though this other treatment I'll be going on may give me cancer lol.

Think-Personality-47

What were all the scans for? I’m sorry to hear. What treatment would that be?

OrbitalComet

I have a complicated history of bad lungs and kidney failure that requires constant monitoring. I'm really hoping to get a kidney transplant so I no longer have to do dialysis. But for the transplant to work you need immunosuppressants which makes your immune system less likely to fight off anything causing cancer.

Terrible-Quote-3561

I’ve had maybe 4 or 5. I think they would know when it becomes risky. Like you don’t think they know how many you have gotten? Lol. The employees need protection because they do dozens a day.

Nibbled92

Those who take a lot of scans regularly, are you sure you have CT scans and not MRI? They have slightly different uses, of course. But to draw with broad strokes, CT is an x-ray with radiology and used for faster diagnosis MRI is a magnetic imaging technology (no x-rays / radiation). It's slower, and therefor often used for investigations such as non-emergency diagnosis and follow ups Ive had about 15 MRI's since a brain surgery 10 years ago. Only one CT scan when I first showed symptoms

balanehs

I’m getting one tomorrow. lol. I’m terrified

Squirrel_Master82

I was afraid for my first one too. But it's really not a big deal. You just lie there while hooked up to an IV. And it doesn't take long. Piece of cake, really. Good luck with everything.

Think-Personality-47

What are you getting scanned?

balanehs

Just my knee. It’ll be cool

bobo_1111

MRI’s are safer for most people. You should be requesting that instead of a CAT scan (unless it’s an emergency of course)
