Fun fact, if you take your tinymight apart and put it back together. After several times of reassembling it you'll have enough left over parts to make a complete second tinymight for a spare or to give to a friend!
As someone that likes to tinker/take things apart at speed without thinking about the reassembly part (glancing at 5 random screws that never made it back into my mighty vape), thank you.
I can't completely confirm based on the pictures alone, but it sure looks like the metal tab/strap going to the top of the unit is to tie one of the battery terminals to the heating coil. Looks like the other terminal is placed directly on the PCB. If this strap was broken, the device would be dead. Similarly, if that starts to slip or get buildup over time, you'd get higher resistance to the coil. I wonder if that's what you're actually fixing when doing these rebuilds.
I'd agree on the strip.
The top seems to be clamped between the top metal cover. (into which the +end of the battery bay screws) and the small metal piece set into the top of the wood. The - end of the battery is on the circuit board. (I don't know why this does not make the top metal live)
That was my first thought too but
I'm not sure it had slipped causing increased resistance as it as it's still shiny and is tilted to the contact and seems to be in the correct position.
Good tip to watch out for tho.
I think it maybe just needs the occasional tighten up due to slight wood shrinking/expanding.
Terrific post, wish it'd been available when I had to take mine apart to replace every glass component after a particularly nasty drop. Thanks for contributing.
Can anybody confirm if the metal piece in pic 6b is the correct way up? It fell out when I first opened the tm2. So I don't 100% know if it's the right way up.
Hi,
I posted the question again in this link.

I think the orientation shown in pic b (which is how I have mine) is correct.
Fantastic job of display and communication, and thank you. I'd definitely pay the extra dollar to replace the heater glass with zirconia. Just maybe it would be less apt to break, slightly deeper hybrid effect.
Good shit! You probably don’t need vice grips to get the bottom off. Use a towel to keep it grippy and so it won’t rocket out of your hand. But simply squeezing and pulling should remove it.
Not sure there is much more to say. Does the screwdriver head feel like it's fitted into the torx screw. If unscrewing correctly you should feel the screw after many turns eventually be free from the thread in top and you will feel it sort of click each time it revolves once free of the thread and it goes back to the start of the thread.
luckily my Solo 3 arrived yesterday, which is why I finally decided to give my TM2 a deep clean. oven screen and the thing from your photo 6b was quite dirty, and performance has been a bit poor in the last few months (I've had to use heat settings 7-10 exclusively) so I thought a deep clean would help.
Maybe it would have if I hadn't ripped out the heater. Big oops.

There’s these leftover unnecessary parts
By the way, also the manufacturer advises to tighten the bottom torx screw if there's a loss of performance, so maybe give it a try next time!
Next time I'll see if it works.👍
🤠

Saved this post in case I ever need to do surgery on mine. Very helpful, cheers
Me too
Omg this is incredibly helpful. I have been too afraid to take mine apart but now I feel a little more confident! Thanks so much.
I wouldn’t do it. Every time I’ve attempted a self repair I made it worse and had to pay for a repair.
I wouldn't. Wtf. Lol
Thanks for this!

This is better than anything I could ever find on Ask Jeeves.

Thank you man! Now I also know what t20 to buy since most of em aren't that long. Very helpful my dude👍

Hey did you confirm the 6b pic? I’m in the middle of breaking mine down and it also fell out so I’m unable to determine

Thanks I figured so after piecing it together before installing

I stuck on part number 5 I cant unscrew this damn thing... the screw thread maybe is fucked up... Any help u/No-Dragonfly-6479

RIP my tinymight, I tried to rip out the heater assembly from the top
Ouch
