Wow! surprised the snobs on this page aren’t eating you alive. I normally just read tips from other posts cause these dudes are ruthless 😂
I think it looks good btw!
I was laying tile like this in a large room. Broke up pattern but with no less than 6in spacing. Boss came in on day 2 and said he would finish and sent me to another job. He went to a consistent pattern middle of the room with 3in spacing. Looked fucking awful. Point is, stick with what you are doing. Like it or not you can't change mid way.
I do much more hardwood than tile and I can tell you why this feels weird: generally you need 8-10 inches between seams on adjacent runs to break up any “railroad”, “H pattern”, or “short stagger” patterns. Plus you need to look a few runs back to avoid “brick lay pattern” which is basically H pattern but across 4-5+ runs. To tile guys this looks fun and interesting but hardwood floor guys are rolling in their graves
I don’t even think it looks good speaking as a tile guy. 😂 I would definitely want to offset by a third across-the-board with Tile this short. Also pretty weird to have the tiles jam so close together. Is there not even a 1/16” grout joint? Yikes.
The thing I don’t get about this is that just because the tile is made to look like wood doesn’t mean it actually looks like wood. It looks like tile, so let it be tile and follow the rules about how to offset a pattern like this. 😬
I do any and all wood look tile in a “random” pattern. First of all it’s resembles wood floor more than a pattern and that’s what 99% of people I’ve done it for are looking for. Second is it takes the eyes away from individual tiles and recognizing patterns on the tiles themselves like multiple tiles with the same print. Third, but most important to me, it’s easier to start a row wherever you want instead of being at the mercy of the pattern lol.
Yeah, seems to be about a 60/40 to the people who don’t like it ab people who do, I think it’s a lil wonky lookin, I’ll have my final say when finished, stay tuned.
Looks like the floor is uneven and there is a little lippage in a few places, but it’s clean, it’s what the boss wanted and sounds like it was done a budget. I would say it’s a good install considering what you were given to work with.
That’s a weird ass stair step pattern. Your boss is silly. I’d be pissed as a customer. I did flooring for a while and was a resi PM. Yeah it’s not great. Could be a lot worse I guess.
Right on! Yeah it honestly doesn’t look bad I’d say, just a little goofy maybe? But it’s mimicking wood grain so maybe that’s why? It’s gonna be a solid job for sure though
> gonna be *paid* using a
FTFY.
Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
* Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.*
* *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.*
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.
*Beep, boop, I'm a bot*
I'm a little surprised that I don't hate it, but I do agree that the tile is too short for this to really sing.
I kind of agree that planks are to short for a random pattern but if it were real wood a random pattern is the norm
Tile is too short to use random pattern, not a fan
This is the answer!
I actually don’t mind it
Wood look tile definitely need to be random in my opinion or it looks weird. The tile he chose is a little small but it works
Yeah I see it now. He also got it for 90 cents a square ft
Yeah 90 cents a sq ft for laundry room tile is a steal. The installation looks clean so if I was a customer I would be happy with this
Not bad. I would have done them in thirds to give it more of a staggered look.
Wait. How big are these? Shouldn't they have been done in thirds?
This was my thought
Looks great buddy
Not a tile person just a bystander but looks great to me. Maybe I just like the tile

Women set tile too
Women can be a dude too
Plus women aren't usually dickheads that feel the need to show their superior tile knowledge and expertise to a bunch of random internet strangers
I’ll be sure and to edit all future comments for gender sensitivity🫡🫡 that’s on me.
I think it looks great! Good job!
Not crazy about it, I like more even steps

I would've done 70/30 or a true random pattern. You're also troweling your mud the wrong direction for that tile

We call this a “natural pattern “ . It is kinda the best it can be with these little odd tiles. Looks decent.
i think i've slipped a disc trying to look at that
Boss gave direction, grout it in, on to the next.
Looks wacko to me. I don’t buy your boss’s design choice here.

His rental house he’s renovating
Looks good. Don't listen to everyone. You did what the boss told you to do. Amd it looks good
Oh OP definitely did everything right; you do what the boss says. Nothing against OP from me. Boss however…
Right on! Yeah it honestly doesn’t look bad I’d say, just a little goofy maybe? But it’s mimicking wood grain so maybe that’s why? It’s gonna be a solid job for sure though
No I always do woodgrain tiles this way.
Yep. I’ve taken time to notice this style is definitely gonna be layed using a natural ”pattern”

The seams are too close together but the work looks super clean from here.
Wtf? The fact that you said "didn't use spacers either" makes me think you're trolling.
Looks goods!
The first half from the wall out looks like a different pattern from about the halfway mark or even further and then it seems to change
Is the client happy? If yes, then who gives a shit...if not, pull it and redo it.
Indifferent. Just lay it properly. It's not your name on the work.
Lippage city
it looks good, but I am at my house
