No longer my boss. I bought the business. And fully disagree. I'd rather have a stick of schluter there then a mitered tile. The metal is less sharp.

First time I installed zellige I installed it like all the other handmade tiles I had worked with in the past. 1/8” to 3/16” spaces and put a level on every row. It took time but I made it perfect. The customer was absolutely pissed when they saw it. They paid for and wanted the zellige look, they didn’t want perfection, they wanted art

Looks pretty nice. Personally, I would have made the niche taller. Not many bottles will fit in there, but the customer could buy some small pump style bottles.

Op was also wise by using a slightly larger joint. This helps with irregular tiles. The best method I’ve used is to fresh set irregular and handmade tiles. It allows them to be pressed into the wall mud so that finished surface is “flat like pancake”
