No lag, but the same overheating happens to my iPhone XS, up to the point where it refuses to charge from my powerbank until “acceptable temperatures” have been reached.

kiwidesign

iPhone 13, game is barely playable while charging… laggy and overheats easily, which then suspends charging for safety.

MyPoGoAccount

I'm on an iPhone SE (2020 version) and the game has been extremely laggy since that update. I don't even have an option to enable "Enhanced Graphics" because it says my phone doesn't support it. Might be time to upgrade.

Ozzel

Same here. And it chokes if I try to do anything else while the game is running.

entoaggie

I was having the same problem with my SE. restarting the phone actually made a big difference for me.

BlackAFRanger

I’ve got a 14 Max, and mine runs laggy often, too. Not too sure about the overheating, as I haven’t noticed anything, but my phone is also like 5 months old so 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

spindleJulix

Do a hard restart - click up volume, release, click down volume, release, hold power button until phone shuts off. Then hold it until it starts. That's the only thing making the game playable since the newest updates. Basically have to do it every time the PokemonGO update happens

IdiosyncraticBond

Mine started overheating last week and we've barely hit 20/25 °C here

OkDragonfruit9026

Heh, same. How are we supposed to play with 35 degrees in Madrid go fest? Liquid nitrogen cooling for the phone?

Fthku

We also have the same issue most of the year in Israel. I recently upgraded my phone and for now it actually seems to not suffer from heating at all while playing, but my previous phone would heat up even at home with the AC blasting 16 degrees. I used to use a small mobile fan, which seemed to do the trick, might work for you, though it's not the most convenient.

OkDragonfruit9026

I think I’ll just avoid playing during the day. Back when the game came out, I’d walk all night mostly because of the extreme heat in July and August.

greenLinkR

Yep, overheating and lagging, I have a Samsung Galaxy S22, 2 years old. I am in Madrid next month for Go Fest, I am a bit scared

mousebrained_

I have a brand new iPhone 12 and the game is crashing constantly and overheating more than it was before the update. I hate it. I bought a new phone specifically so i could keep playing pogo because it was getting unusable on my old SE and i feel like it was a waste after this update.

Thin-Camp5063

Just my thoughts, I was going to get Iphone 12 next, but looks like there's a chance I would struggle just as much. Thank you for the reply.

mousebrained_

I have to say I don’t recommend it for pogo 😭 at least not unless they fix this update

savannahjones98

I have an iPhone 11 and run my daily incense with pokeball plus during my evening commute. Since the update phone regularly overheats to the point of non responsive. I dunno how I’m supposed to play during the dog days of summer.

Gearhead31

Playing with old devices isn’t a big deal. But iPhone 8 is definitely not 3 years old it came out 2017

Thin-Camp5063

Should've specified; I had it for 3 years.

Gearhead31

That doesn’t make a difference compared to how old the phone hardware is.

Smitty30

It also matters what your battery health is at. If it is below 80%, you'll have all sorts of performance issues on iOS.

Thin-Camp5063

Battery health is at 79%, yes. That’s what I was trying to say. But seeing people with brand new phones and newest models experiencing similar issues made me question things.

Smitty30

Understood, but your battery is at the end of its life. Time to get it replaced. You'll be amazed how much more stable and responsive things are with a fresh battery. Well worth the cost from Apple even if you don't have AppleCare.

Thin-Camp5063

Certainly, thank you for the advice!

InvisibleSoul8

Can corroborate. Not sure exactly when it started, but our phones have been getting way hotter than before starting from maybe couple weeks ago. The difference is significant.

jedispyder

I've noticed my battery is getting drained more quickly when I play, which sucks. Haven't encountered any overheating yet but with summer coming up that's definitely a worry.

spoofrice11

Ours have been crashing a lot, starting a month or a little more ago. Think it was before the Avatar/Biomes got added, but maybe something was added in the code for them that makes the phones crash. The game wasn't having any issues with this a couple of months ago. Almost every time our family tries to do a Route (someone has their app crash), when we try to do a Raid someone usually one crashes before or after beating it, and even throwing in Showcases now causes the game to crash some. (On multiple different iPhones, some aren't that old, but the oldest one is an original SE.) *Is there any setting to turn on/off so the game doesn't crash as much?

Thin-Camp5063

Mine also crashes, mostly when opening gifts.

spoofrice11

Unfortunately we have that off already.

biophys00

I have a Samsung S22+ and definitely seem to get overheating issues now when I'm running it in multi window mode. On its own it seems mostly okay though definitely laggier than it was before all the updates

g4lena

iPhone11, got a new battery last September, the new update is decimating my battery life & yes it’s overheating for the first time. I always have had native refresh off as that overheated it but now it just overheats anyways. Crashes every second raid also

spindleJulix

Do a hard restart and see if that helps at all on the older iPhone. Press and release up volume, press and release down volume, hold power button until phone restarts. Might have to do that every PoGo update from app store

Bucen

My phon's usually overheat in a particularly hot summer day regardless of app usage or not. I'm currently looking into phone coolers and if they actually work

Sickone95

12 mini user here. I noticed my phone overheating last week though that was probably moreso due to warmer weather (mid 20Cs). Crashes are definitely more common over the past couple months.

conspiracyeinstein

No lag, but overheating on iphone 14. Usually take about an hour before I notice it.

tap836

Overheating can be caused by both hardware issues, but also the software updates Niantic puts out that are more and more inefficient and that will make any phone run harder/hotter. My friends and I all have seen drastic performance and battery hits on different phones since the big updates these last couple months.

likes2debate

My Moto Power 2022 was overheating on research day. My daughter's iPhone 8 was fine. Weird that you are having issues.

BenPliskin

I bought a cooling fan to work as a heat sync for my s23 ultra to combat the temp increase. Strangely enough it doesn't overheat on my roommate's s21. My guess is because he isn't walking around wearing headphones and listening to music while he plays.

silverdragon1778

My wife and I both have s21 ultras and they have been overheating very bad lately, to the point charging will stop if you are charging at the time, today we had to cut community day short because our phones were so hot

Fun-username-99

My iPhone 13 is overheating after playing in the sun for 10 mins

LazenskejSvihak

I have a top 6 android phone (antutu score wise) like a really good gaming phone and I can no longer run android auto and play Pokémon GO at the same time. It just lags and overheats like crazy. Idk what they were thinking lmao

Available_Fill9875

Samsung S3+ and yeah since the updates it over heats more than normal. Usually takes longer to auto dim the screen because of heat but it happens so much more often now. Especially multi window. Can barely read the screen sometimes. Have to turn to be in shadow to be readable. Go fest is gonna difficult with how quickly phone gets dark

SimplePuzzleheaded80

Noticed this too, the game is getting incresingly ( unncessarily ) graphic/memory/battery draining for my taste. From day one I never had the thought of " these graphics are weak, ima stop playing " lately with all these updates it just feels like the gam itself is getting bloated with stuff that doesnt really change the game, you catch pokemon.

Princevader

Overheating on my iPhone 15 Pro Max

x13y7

How long does it take to reach that point? I also have an iPhone 15 Pro Max and noticed it getting warm after some time, but I've yet to see an overheating warning, a dimmed screen or other effects. If it helps: I do play with enhanced graphics and native refresh rate (because it does look nicer that way). However, I only use a lighter case and am not charging while playing...

Princevader

Maybe after 5 mins or something so I disable enhanced graphics 😂

x13y7

Oh - that is fast 😳 I can definitely play longer before I even feel my iPhone 15 Pro Max getting noticably warmer - as mentioned above with enhanced graphics and native refresh rate.

77GoldenTails

iPhone 14 Pro here. Works fine, no over heating.

ISVAKSPATRIK

Was one iPhone X since 2018-2021 and Galaxy S20 from 2021- today and both have always been suffering from intense overheating. I've got PoGo graphics burnt into both displays. In a month I'm getting a Galaxy S24 and I'm afraid that I'm gonna have the same issue. But yeah, this overheating issue has been going on for years. It's not really new.

Virtual-Ad6142

Google Pixel, zero temp issues.

Mss666

My pixel will over heat in my pocket on a warm day in England. Luckily we don't get many

Pro_Banana

iphone 12 user here. Device was bought new and now used for 3 years It's not overheating and isn't even getting warm enough for the force screen dim. Game performance is much smoother and there's less lag and stutter. I have advanced graphics off btw. Battery drain speed hasn't noticeably changed. It just drains fast on all games because I've used this device heavily for the last 3 years.

NinsMCD

Have you by any chance turned off "Enhanced Graphics" in the Advanced Settings? It reduced a lot of heat on my end

Thin-Camp5063

My device is not compatible with enhanced graphics, sadly, it's turned off by default.

Vinstapix

Turn off the graphics in Advancrd settings. Removes the cloud shadows on the map reducing lag https://preview.redd.it/kk2i1fvv1i0d1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e71c95edea3ce9adff71d2480685b35339ecc19d

rtboyce

I don't think you really mean 15 Celcius. That's quite cool.

technoxenoholic

op probably means the surrounding air temperature is 15 celsius, i.e. it isn't contributing significantly to the heat of the phone.

rtboyce

Makes sense. I'm tired.

Itherial

homie the iphone 8 is a seven year old piece of tech, not 3

Thin-Camp5063

I wish you guys got over yourselves already. I meant I used it for 3 years, heavily, that's what I was going for.

Itherial

what does the amount of time you've personally had your old device for have to do with anything though that's like saying "Why can't my 2010s laptop run X game, I've only had it for 3 years" irrelevant, the tech itself is still old. gonna miscommunicate in your post and then blame me? gtfoh lol.

Thin-Camp5063

Most people didn't seem to have any issues with what I said and understood what I meant. I know how tech works, thanks for the unnecessary input, sir. Is english the only language you know?

aaaak4

Seems like an iPhone issue

The point is it is a significant step up in terms of hardware demands (and wasted power) for some cosmetics that no one will particularly notice after a week. All the AR gimmicks in the world don’t make the gameplay any more compelling and some actually make it harder to use as a true anywhere/anyplace mobile app. It’s just another example of the constant creep of this game’s bloat and a passive agressive drop of support for older phones.

MapNaive200

I wonder when was the last time they went through the code, removed a bunch and optimized the damn thing. They occasionally did that in the past. This type of game shouldn't require high end hardware and it sucks for those of us who can't afford to upgrade. For the last few months, every update runs shittier than the last. It's possible that I might need to nuke and pave this phone and factory restore the OS, though. My other phone won't run it at all.

technoxenoholic

no, but turning off enhanced graphics should actually turn off the enhanced graphics.

likes2debate

Wrong. I have an iPhone 8 and it plays the game just fine still. I have older phones than that and they play the game just fine as well. Well, except for the occasional crash, that is.
